Nokia patent for adjustable aperture could improve the camera on the next PureView device

0. phoneArena 01 May 2013, 23:03 posted on

Getting great pictures in daylight and in low-light from the same cellphone camera is hard to accomplish, but is something that Nokia might be getting ready to address after the company received a patent for a cellphone camera with an adjustable aperture, a technology that just might find itself on the oft-rumored Nokia Lumia EOS...

Finally my old N86 with variable aperture is back.

But the problem is :

YES! I love Nokia EOS!

NO! I will never buy a Nokia anymore because of this retarded WP8!

Even you said WP8 is retarded (and im a user), i thumbed you up. Frankly speaking, i dont miss Symbian at all after moving to WP8, with an android phone as my 2nd device. Performance and smoothness is leaps and bounds ahead. Maybe i wished there is a file manager but i can live without that.

As for the camera department i know Nokia always delivers, so i can wait. N86 is probably the only phone which had adjustable aperture on its camera, but sadly it uses LED flash instead.

coz using an android is almost similar to symbian!

i just love my 808 PuveView! i just ditch my android coz its just so slow! i only enjoy playing temple run on it!

im still dreaming of that!

Too bad the only retard is the one who hasn't used WP8.
I'll never use iOS or go back to Android. There are a few apps and customizations I liked on Android but its buggy... I think now I'm down to 1 app that I don't have on wp8 that I had on Android.

I have the new iPad and the Nokia Lumia 920. The best combination of devices. The best tablet in market and the best durable cameraphone (a phone has to survive daily use in work) with a very intuitive OS.

oh that's why Nokia 920 pics in low light are great and are not so good as competitor's. in normal conditions.
adjustable aperture will overcome this problem.
go Nokia show the world preview phase 3

No, that's not the reason, because competitors do NOT have adjstable aperture as well.

Except OEM:s like HTC are already busy thinking how they can steal Nokia innovation. "Lets copy tech and call it ultradjustable aperture!".

I have 808, and i only use it to take photos..but my note2 is good enough in camera atlz in daylyt and macro shots so my 808 mostly on nytshft job hehe. ;)
I cant 4get abt android, it is my top choice, cant live a smartphone life w/o android haha

As I could see, 808's camera software is quick and good; if you use the device only for it's camera, you won't be bothered by browser speed or by the inability to install... don't know, Instagram or Temple Run.
A good comparison would be between 808 and Samsung [some name] camera.

The second bad choice you have made is choosing a tiny tablet - Note - instead of 7-10" one.

Everyone can live without Android; if one wants the best smartphone, one chooses iPhone; if one wants a very good and cheaper alternative, one chooses Windows.

See, no Android.

I dont like android tablets, coz not all apps are supported, i went t note2 because i love superamoled, spen and d features along, big display, exynos, good sound quality.. and i think it is d best device for now until n3 appears.
If ill have a tablet, i want iPad.

Best smartphone-iphone?? If someone wud give that to me for free, ill be selling it immediately and buy htc one/s4/sony honami/ NOTE3, the latter will be my top choice if sammy will live up to the hype that they said note3 will be "their most wanted samsung device"

But you are using Note which is a little Android... tablet.
I also love magenta color but I will never buy a magenta suit; amoled is a magenta suit: good for watching cartoons, bad for a mobile phone display.

We're talking about phones; One, S4, Note 3 are also tiny tablets.

Hmm? Watching cartoons? SuperAmoled is the most wanted when it comes to movies, games etc..
And u can also choose natural mode/movie mode to tune down saturation
And bad for mobile phone? Mobile phone is for textng and calling, r u still concrned abt display? Haha

U havnt use highend android uhh w/ big display.. oh poor man, try it and ull be amazed:)

Oh but I have tried to use Lumia 920 and I found it to be way too big for decent one hand use; I tried S2 and, although it is also big, I can manage it but I hate cartoonish Touchwiz, oversaturated amoled colors and s**t*y plastic build so I dropped it; I have never tried other Android phoens due to their lag (S3 and One X have it, S4 and One will have it too in a few months).

You said a phone is for calling and texting; why do you need Note's huge display to place a call? wouldn't 3.5" display on iphone (which fits in a normal man's hand and pocket) suffice?

How old are u? I said calling and texting bcoz uv mentioned MOBILE PHONE, but i treat my phone as a Smartphone..

Well s2 and s3 does have a great greenish or bluish tint in d display but they are old amoled tech, note2 is a great display and s4 is even better but have issues now :)

Ill stop arguing w/ u coz it seems that you are on d other side of phone usage :)
Thank u

Mails, calendar, appointments, social networking, notes and some office/pdf documents; everything very manageable on 3.5", let's say 4-4".
Have I forgotten something a smartphone is made for?

Although i like the fresh design of wp, but there are few features for powerusers to enjoy...

Ohh...this is kinda new....adjustable aperture?

As if you can tell the difference between an f/2 and f/5 shot on a tiny sensor/lens...duh

It ONLY matters on DSLRs and micro four thirds sheeeez...

posted on 02 May 2013, 00:23 2

9. Penny (Posts: 988; Member since: 04 Feb 2011)

What's new is the mechanism to achieve the adjustable aperture, as I'm sure they had to figure out a more mobile-ready mechanism than what exists in dedicated cameras.

Yes. Yes I can.

Just because you may not find a way to take advantage of it doesn't mean that somebody else won't be able to. Much better photographers than you and I can pull off better photos with today's average smartphone than we could with a dSLR.

Oh also, "booooooo for progress!" What were they thinking trying to improve something?

I never said that I was better than you, nor do I consider myself better than anyone that I don't know. That being said, all anybody here can know about you is based on what you say in your comments. Maybe you should just avoid making factually false statements if you don't want people to get the wrong impression.

The underlying theme in my previous comment was that this development from Nokia is in fact more useful than you are giving it credit for. That should hopefully answer your first question.

Talk is only cheap if you have nothing valuable to say. Go do some research on how cameras work.
