Nokia gives you 10 reasons to want the Nokia Lumia 1020

0. phoneArena 13 Jul 2013, 11:59 posted on

The Nokia Lumia 1020 took the majority of our attention this past week; and while our loyal readers probably don't need any encouragement to lust in their hearts for the handset the same way that Jimmy Carter told Playboy in 1976 that he lusts after...uh...let's just say peanuts, Nokia has posted a top ten list of reasons to want the device...

Do you remember that movie "Mean Girls" where the one girl says to the other "Stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen"?

Well, stop trying to make phamera happen, it's not going to happen.

You've been saying that word for over a month now on this site and it's not catching on.

Dr.Phil, I'm not the one who started the word 'Phamera', it was somebody in here started this (I don't remember who it is).

Let's just say 'Phablet', when peoples first heard the word 'Phablet' they laughed, but now it's in, like the 'Phamera' will be "in" in a few years.

Phablet became a word because when Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note they just had the two words up on the screen: phone. tablet. Writers immediately combined the two words into the word "phablet". It's something that is easy to remember and with just one look you can tell what the word is about: the combination of a phone and a tablet.

The word phamera, however, is not that catchy. Also, what is the word about? When I look at the word, I have to question whether they mean a phablet with a camera or a phone with a camera? I am automatically assuming you mean a phablet with a camera, which the Lumia 1020 is not a phablet.

Oh, and not to mention the biggest reason why we shouldn't even be making up a word for this is because the word "cameraphone" has already existed for years now.

I have no idea what you just said. The lack of proper grammar and spelling mistakes ruined whatever you were trying to say. I never told anyone what to do, but rather I made an opinion and voiced it. I'm sorry I am not like most other users that just agree with each other or care about whether they were "thumbs'd up" or not. The irony is that you are trying to say that I tell people what to do and how that is wrong while also giving me an order to stop giving advice or opinions. Way to be a hypocrite.

I was assuming a phablet plus a camera because the "pha-" in phablet combined with the "-mera" in camera gives you phamera.

Also, I am assuming you must be young to not remember there already is a word for a phone and camera combined, it's called a camera phone.

That wasn't the line I was talking about. It was when you said "stop telling people what to do as u are not a pHD to give advice and thus falsely misleadin people."

Telling me to "stop" is giving me an order.

Also, you never sounded as if you were just trying to do me a favor by telling me to not waste my time. I must have been confused since you said "YO CALM down it's word....i'm sorry are u the dictionary police? noo" which to me sounded argumentative in nature instead of just telling me to stop wasting my time.

If that was your intent, then I apologize, but you sure didn't make it seem that way.

that was a continuing the "like if i were to say..." part...but fair enough, yes my intent was don't waste ur time correcting these people .... and "yo calm down" was like who gives a F*** generally LOL but it was probably poor choice in formulating my sentences

Very good points Nokia but I can't help myself say that there only 10 points on the camera! Now do 10 points on the device and I'm sold!

True, the camera will be class leading for a long time. Though I just wish Nokia would embrace the removable battery (I know, I'm probably in the minority in this).

Well, technically it was 9 reasons that dealt with the camera and 1 reason that dealt with the app store and Nokia Music. I totally agreed with the first 9, but I have to admit I wasn't really convinced by the last point. If anything, it reminded me that Google and Apple both have about 700,000 applications in their respective stores. Not to say that all of those apps are something you would use or that aren't junk, but it does go to show where the app development is still at.

As far as the rest of the device is concerned, while it may not have the high definition screen or quad-core processor of the competition, you probably won't notice the differences between it and a Galaxy S4 or HTC One that much unless you are playing graphical games on it.

Android is a long way from being perfect (fragmented, insecure, resource hog). I think it's presumptive to assume that a device sucks because it doesn't use a particular OS or show a specific brand name...

So you being stuck on a lumia device, and having the same tiles like everyone else makes you proud of your phone?

Every android device is unique and provides the costumer with choices. I dont know about you but i surely dont want to wear clothes or drive a car that looks exactly the same as everyone elses.

If android is far from perfect then what do you call WP? Androids b*tch?

If anything, it seems like we're moving backwards. The promise of JAVA back in the day was for it to build applications that could be run on any machine, regardless of the foundation OS, but all of that has failed to materialize, and we're back in the dark ages with competing platforms...

Why on earth would I care about modifying the background colors for my mobile device UI when the default already functions in an effecient manner? Unlike yourself, I use my smartphone as a computer device, not as wearable fashion. I want something that works, not something to impress my friends with. The only reason I would ever seek out Android is because it has some interesting apps that can do things like control my motherboard, or act as my TV remote. However, WP has great features too, and is much more secure...

The argument about the merits of either OS is starting to become like that old lame rehash of PC vs MAC. However, I cannot build and modify a smartphone and then give it a custom CPU or GPU cooler. Overclocking is pointless, and I don't play games on my smartphone because the graphics suck compared to my PC. You bragging to me about the virtues of Android for the sake of changing the colors or background graphic is absurd. Nokia WP smartphones just work, and they're strong and sturdy. The Lumia 1020 will allow me to leave my point & shoot camera at home. Good!

Stop your complaining, and go brag to somebody else that you were able to make your own custom icons...
