The first flagship Android smartphone to wear Nokia's brand in a long time is likely to be launched next year. In fact, the first phones the Finnish company is expected to unveil after the Microsoft fiasco are going to be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2017, in late February.

There will certainly be more than one smartphones that Nokia and HMD Global will bring to the market in 2017, and one of them could be a flagship with a 5.2 or 5.5-inch display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

The information comes directly from China, so it might not be as reliable as we would have wanted. However, none of the details mentioned don't seem hard to believe, so the only thing that remains to establish is whether or not Nokia does indeed plan to launch such a flagship.

Well, aside from the display size that we mentioned above, the upcoming Nokia flagship could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.

That might sound great on paper, but there are already many smartphones that are running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chipset, including the OnePlus 3T and LeEco Eco Pro 3. Another interesting piece of information suggests the smartphone will feature an impressive camera with Carl Zeiss certified lens.

Design-wise, the unannounced Nokia phone will feature a metal body and it will be waterproof, though we're not sure if the device will rather be water-resistant instead.

That's about all we know so far about the first flagship smartphone that Nokia plans to launch next year, but keep in mind that the information doesn't come from an entirely reliable source, so take it with a pinch of salt please.
