"The features related to the patent deal with multitasking, data syncing, call quality, positioning and Bluetooth technology."
.... and why isn't Google or HTC being sued too? Maybe I'm just missing some information here.

They are, the apple one is just more high-profile. Most major tech companies have some sort of patent lawsuit always going on with someone

because HTC, Sumsung and other trustworthy companies pay Nokia revenues for its patents. while Apple has to steal cause Apple doesnt even have core technologies for the mobile devices.

Why do these suits keep coming up? Most of the time they don't even stick and it just looks like a waste of time and money for the companies. Nokia needs to prove themselves in the development of phones not litigation.

If they didn't try to defend their intellectual properties, it'd give other companies license to do the same thing, which leads to huge financial loss, and in today's day and age, that can make or break a company. Look at former industry giants, like Kodak for cameras or IBM for computers and other business machines: they innovated a bunch of really neat stuff, then other companies started using those innovations, or derivitaves thereof, and now both of those industry leaders are shadows of what they used to be

I understand what you're saying it makes sense. You have a very valid point. I'm just pointing out that most of these suits do not stick and just draw out to a very long and costly litigation where those companies can use that money to innovate more and keep moving. These are very large companies and though there are times when a suit does stick but each company has their own set of very expensive and very smart patent lawyers that can find every loophole needed. But I do get that every chance a company gets they will try to take from another and each other company has to defend themselves whether it may not amount to anything.

true but they said some of these litigations date back from more than 10 years before the Iphone. What the heck would Apple have infringed upon back then, they were in completely separate industries back then. This just sounds like fluff on both parties since I've heard Apple accuse the same of Nokia.

They are legally bound to defend the patents they hold.

Hahahaahah Nokia Leading innovator!!!! In what multitasking Nokia wake up don't forget your history ATYRIES COMPANY! Now Nokia leading innovator what a joke and by the way what about non removable battery in Nokia N8 and E7 what about single manue bottom in N8 and E7 what about screen transition from left to right what about music cover flow on N8 and E7 and other symbian 3 phones ?! All these your innovation right?!

Actually, yeah. I'd would believe that companies such as Nokia or Motorola (companies that have been in the technology and communications business for decades, not a few years) came up with these sort of technologies before apple did; you don't just come out of nowhere with a product like the iphone without getting licensing from somewhere. That's one of the reasons apple's products are made in china, to avoid international patent issues.

What about proper spelling? Spell check works, y'know.

Yea, because Apple is such a innovator. It comes down to this, if they find these patents are right then Apple screwed the pooch. This wouldn't be the first time that they did something like this.

@Box iPhone or Nokia's phones all made in china cuz of low budget workers and I think you know that all Nokia factory right know in India and china! Ok I understand that Nokia and Motorola in this field for ages but don't forget that Apple in software field for decades unlike Nokia or Motorola till today they don't have own software.

Nokia does have its own software...ever hear of Symbian?
13. IOS5 (unregistered)
@thatdude1 Symbian doesn't own by Nokia for your info it's owned by Symbian foundation before.

@IOS5 I'd say 'before' is the key word, Google doesn't own Android either since they bought it right?
17. IOS5 (unregistered)
Google own the Android os but Nokia bought the symbian wither you like or you don't like it this the truth.
