Nokia denies it is looking at Android

0. phoneArena 02 Dec 2012, 13:00 posted on

Remember that job posting by Nokia on LinkedIn looking for a Linux-fluent engineer that kinda, sorta made it sound like it was looking at building Android hardware?; as we guessed earlier, the job is for its HERE Maps support for Android and iOS...

This is a discussion for a news. To read the whole news, click here

Nokia already looked into Android and came to the conclusion WP would be a better fit. I would surmise Samsung's success with Android had a big impact in that decision. Has Nokia forever closed the door to an Android option? I don't think so, just not the right time for them right now.

It would be better for them to use Sailfish… i don’t want to see a Android OS on Nokia phone.. Nokia is a premium quality product.. Android would ruin it.

Too bad for them. Now they have to bow to Microsoft for every single feature they need. With Android they just could build everything in-house. You can't be effective that way. Nokia + WP will fail.

Really? Then explain the L920 and its worldwide shortage and popularity.

Nokia phones are simply not relevant in the states. They seem to be built pretty nice but a little too chunky for my liking. I believe for them to make a dent in the states that they will have to adopt Android. Can you imaging Jelly Bean on a Nokia phone?! (picture the guy in the samsung iPhone 5 headphone jack commercial...mind blown!)

That's not it at all, we just want some of that quality. If you really believe in Nokia, you wouldn't believe they'd get lost in the sea of Android. I believe in Nokia and think they'd do very well with Android. It's just easier for them to dominate with WP8 right now.

Not really, Nokia can stand out they have quite a good reputation and their build quality is top notch, i would love to see Nokia Android phones, right now if we want top notch materials and construction and Android under the hood we only have HTC, Motorola (which is only influent in the US) and Sony.

maybe Nokia can stand, but most people when u say Android, Samsung is what goes in their mind. so Nokia will not have cash flowing the moment they adopt the Android OS. WP is the safer choice for Nokia, and lets not forget the cash coming from Microsoft. if i were Nokia -and i think you will also- go for WP, if you have some cash coming, instead of paying to have the OS.

i would go for an Android-Nokia device, but not everyone would.

What's wrong with Samsung? GS3 and note2 are good ultra popular devices. And the 13 MP GS4 is coming.

With that in mind, food for them to make a name for themselves with Windows Phone, then if (though unlikely) they decide to take on Samsung for Android dominance they'll have a steady solid platform and foundation to go off of. Neither Nokia nor Samsung care much about apple, as their focus is on each other, much like how Ford goes against gm, or Honda vs Toyota, or Canon vs Nikon. Everything else battles for the next available position.

Making at least one good android device is not "loosing one self in a sea of Android" elop came with that as an excuse for not trying at all. They will just loose themselves in a sea of windows phone, end up competing with even a possible surface phone, being limited to customization they can perform. If something is making others successful is the fact that they are not riding one boat, its Nokia fault for not trying when they had the chance, or for not trying right now, many people would buy a 910 esque phone if it came with Android, they can do so much with the OS without leaving windows phone

A nokia built phone would be awesome - probably the best camera quality in the biz. I sure a WP8 Nokia phone can be hacked to run android.

I'm sorry, but from a business standpoint, Android was just not the way for Nokia to go. Sure Windows Phone is young, but at the same time, that gave Nokia an edge. The Lumia devices have recieved critical acclaim from users and critics alike. Nokia is showing other WP OEMs how it's done: great hardware + exclusive apps/features = a unique OEM WP experience.

WP gives Nokia and edge within WP, yes

But WP sucks and Nokia is like a good sailor in a sinking ship.

Nokia knows that and it has built a life boat from Android, it's called Jolla's Sail Fish.

MeeGo is not Android, and its not a fork of Android, they are two different OSes, MeeGo is pure Linux, and Android is a modified Linux

MeeGo is a continuation of Maemo 5, which is a whole newer version of OS2008 (N810) which started in 2005 with OS2005 (Nokia 770) so MeeGo is not Android

I resisted android as well because i was a supporter of symbian. Now symbian is gone. i try iOS and android. I prefer iOS for iPad and Android for Phone and that before apple goes nutS and start sueing everyone.

Now I use mostly Android and i like it. You are free to choose whatever that serve you even iOS, WP8, RIM or a china branded OS... whichever rocks your boat but to rant about Android without even trying is unbecoming.
