Nokia debunks the Android rumor, sends over a different translation of CEO Elop's quote

0. phoneArena 08 Jan 2013, 10:36 posted on

Nokia's PR department was quick to react yesterday to what it deemed a bad translation of the CEO Stephen Elop interview with the Spanish El Pais, where his words "anything is possible" on the topic of Nokia going Android made a couple of tours around the globe, or at least the tech blogosphere part of it...

Android is the only choice or else good bye Nokia. WP8 is so scrap that even Verizon Sprint and T-Mobile didn't take, MS had to beg Nokia and poor Nokia felt in there trap. Look what happen to W12345678 @ll failed.

No, actually most Android fans don't care if Nokia makes Windows phone. All they are saying is why not make another device along side their windows phones. But again, the mere mention of Android drive many commenters bananas! There is no threat from Nokia right now, and there won't be for some time if the current numbers are any indicator. So be mad if you want, but we want Nokia to stick around and we're willing to help that happen. But some of us just aren't ready or willing to leave Android for that to do it.

It's not WP fans are threatened. Driod fans are. Why they keep insisting of Nokia in Android platform? Because they are threatened by Nokia on the rise and they can't get a solid phone maker on there own. So stop dreaming. Nokia is making progress bigtime by 2013 now that the level field is the same with specs.

Obviously WP fans ARE feeling threaded by an Android Nokia because you all keep insisting that they only build with one platform. Android fans didn't bat an eye when HTC made Windows phones. Nor when Samsung did the same. But the WP fans are petrified that Nokia would even think about using Android for some reason...why? Why should they not have a diverse offering of devices? Should Android fans demand that if you make Android phones, that you ONLY make Android phones the same way WP fans are?

WP fans threatened? According to droids they have insignificant market share? Wouldn't it be the other way around, the one whose throne is being threatened? No wonder why Google is blocking map service from WP and cut support for activesync. Seeing threat? And why should you care if HTC made WP phone? The are not of same standard with Nokia that you all craving for. How about Sammy? Oh, ok they said "one phone is enough and let's delay it to make our fans happy." If only blogs not sensationalizing Elop's statement, fandroids will not salivate with gusto.

Fact is, they do have very little marketshare, and that's according to industry experts. Maybe that will change, maybe it won't, who knows? But no matter what you feel about WP, it apparently ain't looking good to the rest of the world. I'm not saying its bad, but it ain't catchin' on as quickly as MS promised.

Elop is a MS mole, plan and simple. It was a great idea to go to the space where none of the competitors had a presence, the 900 series is great! But there's nothing wrong with giving people what they want either. I could see if they were pushing their own home grown OS, but they aren't. Elop has shackled Nokia to an OS that nobody really wants and he's refusing to budge, like a sail boat captain aiming at an iceberg.

"Android fans didn't bat an eye when HTC made Windows phones. Nor when Samsung did the same."

lol....Exactly. IMO...Samsung and HTC were doing smart business. The chance for 2 revenue streams?

To me it seems like Nokia fans want Nokia to fail. Ppl act like Samsung and HTC came out the gate popular in Android land. It was dominated by Motorola until the Galaxy S line and EVO for HTC came out.

If Nokia phonesa are so great....they will be fine in Android land.

Are they scared Nokia wont be able to compete? Is Nokia scared they wont be able to compete? Only way to find out is to do it...and see what happens. You can best believe Samsung and HTC are very, very happy they have Android to fall back on. IF...IF it turns out Nokia becomes a lil more popular because of Android...how is that be a bad thing?

Maybe Android fans .....like Nokia phones? And want that hardware with Android running on it? I know, its a wild concept.

HTC, Samsung, LG already do a WP phone, no problems with Android fans of those companies.......everyone isnt saying Nokia should leave WP....but do both ...just to see what happens.

That's why Nokia will give you the 3310 version of Android coz they can't afford now the additonal manpower and still have problems with supply to meet the Nokia 920 demands everywhere.

IKR! +1 jroc74! Ever since Nokia made the decision to go with WP, seems WP fans said, "Nokia is all ours, and you have no right to like or want anything Nokia ever again". Get over it. If they don't make an Android device, oh well! But I have a feeling if they did, WP fanboys everywhere will riot in the streets.

Nokia or Elop also said going Android was like peeing on yourself to keep warm. There are alot of warm ppl in Android land compared to Nokia right now.

I'm sure Google and Android fans wont hold that against them if they did an Android phone. Nokia has good hardware.

I think the bigger problem is WP vs Nokia fans. WP fanboys are scared of Nokia doing Android and succeeding. If that was to happen...isnt that a good thing for Nokia?

Nokia fans....I dont even know what to say. Do yall exist? Why would Nokia succeeding with Android be such a bad thing? Has Samsung, HTC, LG stopped making WP phones? They make those phones...and MS STILL gets lisence fees from them, so it cant be that. Motorola basically told MS to F themselves, they wasnt doing a WP phone....they still havent gotten any lisence fees from Motorola.

What are the WP and Nokia fans so afraid of?

Um no the reason moto isn't doing WP is because Google owns them.. I swear do half of you Android fans have any idea what you are talking about or do you have blinders on in fear of seeing what else is out there.. Stop drinking the kool aid..please

Talking about blinders...and kool aid....lol. Yea....I wonder do WP fans every know what they are talking about. ..

Dude....I dont have time to do a history lesson for you about Motorla, Androd and Google buying them.

And of course it wont literally say F you MS!!

How is 2010 for you.....were they courting them then?

"It's no coincidence to our eyes that Microsoft went after the one top-tier Android phone maker that didn't sign up to the Windows Phone 7 utopia project.

Seperated for emphasis.....

We recall HTC was in hot water with the Redmond team back in April for similar reasons, and its resultant licensing of Microsoft's patents seems to have been embedded into the WP7 partner agreements -- which is why we're not seeing the likes of ASUS and Samsung being served with similar complaints. So basically, if things get too hot and steamy, Moto could just kick out a token Windows Phone handset, get the accompanying licenses in order, and this whole thing blows over nice and peacefully. Marvelous."

Just read the articles around the net...MS and Motorola have a shaky history....long before Google even entertained buying them. Reading is fundemental.

Remember...Google bought Motorola for patents for the most part. And MS STILL has yet to get lisence fees from Motorola/Google that they are getting from the other Android manufactures.

Fundamental, reading is.

"Elop: In the current ecosystem wars we are using Windows Phone as our weapon. But we are always thinking about what's coming next, what will be the role of HTML 5, Android... HTML5 could make the platform itself—being Android, Windows Phone or any other—irrelevant in the future, but it's still too soon [to tell].

Today we are committed and satisfied with Microsoft, .........but anything is possible."

Seperated for emphasis.

"So, the way I think about it is, in the current war on ecosystems, we are fighting with Windows Phone. That’s what we’re doing. Now, what we’re always doing is asking, how does that evolve? What’s next? What role does HTML5 play? What role does Android or other things play in the future?

We’re looking further into the future, but in terms of what we’re bringing to market, and what we’re immediately focused on, we’re focused on Windows Phone."

Seperated for emphasis.

lol....All this update says is basically the exact same thing as the original article....LOL!! "today we are committed"; "what we’re immediately focused on" All that was left out was the anythings possible. Omg...I guess this was done to make WP and Nokia fans happy....lol.

All the android fans crying for an android powered Nokia don't even know how they sound if listened to objectively. You're basically saying that if Nokia were to adopt Android then everybody would flock to them because of their great hardware and innovation so that would equal a better experience. It means that they would abandon their current devices for a better experience. That means that the experience they're getting right now is mediocre and are begging Nokia desperately to rescue them. Which proves the point that Android is crap. Seriously. That is how you sound everytime you suggest that Nokia adopt android. Stop begging. Just get the Lumia 920 already. You so want to be recognized and accepted that you sshhiitt on others. Bb, Jolla, tizen, etc. For people who claim to be for openness you sure don't like more options. You don't even acknowledge other capable android vendors. It is either Sammy, Sony, nexus, Motorola or crap. Half of you don't even have jelly bean.... Many of you won't get key lime pie.... Tsk tsk tsk.... Feel free to attack those who exercise their right to choose.... Android isn't perfect which is why choice is essential

Nobody said they wanted WP, they said they wanted a Nokia phone running Android. How in the world does that even remotely say Android is crap? And if Android was crap....Android would be where Palm is right now. Wow...

MS makes WP, not Nokia. WP is the OS, Nokia is the hardware.

Fanboys......gotta love em...lol. Dont assume the fanboys speak for ALL the users. Thats what fanboys do.

Yeah... Guys now we want open source... we want freedom from closed source... with android we feel free independent... the great thing is customization we can customize every thing ...we can also develop our own customized rom...

But all these things can't be possible without open source... Nokia is good but now they need to change their concept...
