We can trust Nokia on that but they should definitely shoot some videos with the actual 920 just to get rid of the skeptics. Not a good move be Nokia.

I don't think this is any different than console companies showing off video of games they claim their systems are rendering on the fly, but later find out iwere prerendered.

I used to like Nokia but, as long as Elop is heading that company I will not touch anything they make. There is just way too much shady stuff between them and M$. Considering after he left M$ he was one of the largest private holders of M$ stock. It is a damn shame what happened to Nokia. Seems like M$ got a Trojan horse into their Nokia.

I agree that they have a great deal of innovation going on with the 'floating lens' tech, but the video scam is a downright shame! Shame on you Nokia, it's an embarassment for me as an avid supporter to your fame. If you hadn't been 'caught' red handed, you'd still be claiming that the video is still from the phone. Darn, i'm losing my trust in you! What's wrong with taking a video from the real phone??

Should be written that Nokia presented fake video taken with other hardware. Judging by the size of black object it's rather not an amateur camera ; if it wasn't amateur camera image is too blurry so it would mean that quality of video taken was downgraded so it looks like mobile taken (720p resolution is available on youtube for download)....

... after it was found out that video was a fake ; Nokia presented another one claimed to be legitimate one but due to first issue can it be trusted to be a real one?

Personally I do not trust that explanation ; judging by the performance of Lumia 900 I own (much older SonyEricsson Arc that I have as well have much better pictures quality).

If you look at the video as proof of concept Nokia didn't lie the phones are capable of OIS. The problem here is clearly Nokia's mistake of thorough PR checking during the making of the first video.

I don't know if any of you remember this, but 3 years ago, Nokia made an ad for the Nokia N97. It showed the phone being very smooth. It was fake as the actual N97 was sluggish as hell. A lot of Nokia users were upset that the phone did not behave as shown in the ad. They used a fake ad then and they used it again now.

the F/2.0 aperture is the lowest found any smartphone. Think of aperture as how “open” a lens can get—the more open, the more light comes in. That’s crucial as light is what camera’s crave and is the key to getting a good image. You want to buy an expensive lens for your DSLR? Search for one with an F/1.4 aperture—basically the lower the number, the better. Reaching F/2.0 on a camera-phone is a pretty big deal, make no mistake about it. back-side illuminated sensors (BSI) —it’s what is found on the iPhone, Titan II and many Samsung phones. It puts the wires behind the sensor, allowing more light to be received and once again, making brighter photos. We’ve wanted Nokia to do this for a very long time and now they have.


The Lumia 900, Lumia 920 and 808 PureView

Sensor size is also crucial. Here, the bigger the better and the fact is, most smartphones have tiny sensors. Why do some “pro” DSLRs cost so much? It’s because they have a giant sensor (it’s also why they’re so big). The Lumia 920 sports a 1/1.4” sensor that beats many phones who roll with a smaller 1/2.5”. That brings us to megapixels…

Photographers hate megapixel discussions because it’s all consumers focus on, instead of all of the above. It’s often the least important aspect as those pixels won’t improve your photo much. It’s good for cropping, yes, but other than that?


Nokia said they could have added more than the 8MP to that 1/1.4” sensor, as some of their competitors have on their devices. But as we mentioned last night, jamming more megapixels on a sensor can have negative consequences, like reduce image quality. The more pixels on a sensor, the more light you need to illuminate them all. In turn, cameras with high megapixel count tend to have worse low-light performance. That’s right folks, putting 16MP or 32MP into a camera can be a bad thing, especially if it’s on a small sensor.

No, Nokia took the good route here—the one that photographers would have preferred: larger, BSI sensor with less megapixels so there is less noise in low light conditions.

Throw in their whole “Floating lens”, which is a mechanical form of image stabilization (aka better than software based) and we’re talking a whole new category of a camera phone. I'VE seen some of the images and so far, I really like what we see. Expect more in the future

Despite this there is no reason to not trust Nokia with this new image tech. Have we forgotten about the, N82, N8 and 808? If this were HTC then i'd be more skeptical. (considering their much talked about Image sense was such a non event in actuality)

The Verge and Nokia recently tested the Camera on the Nokia lumia 920 and it does indeed take good low light pictures. The Production crew Nokia got to do their work
decided to use equipment other than the Lumia 920 for video and still pictures. Mr Elop I am sure has jumped on the asses of this production crew for this really bad bad oversite and wont let it happen again. it did not have to happen because the Nokia 920's camera is working Fine check the "Verge" article

I do not think that windows 8 smart phones will fail for the following reasons
1=Windows 8 OEM's are using state of the art electronic comonents to make windows 8 smart phone therefore a person who buy's one wont be buying junk. 2= the soft ware
Windows phone 8 is better than what is on current windows smart phones. Even Verizon
who was not a fan of Windows phone 7 OS smart phones backs Windows Phone 8
Verizon knows they wont be selling their customers junk! 3= Microsoft says that they will support Windows phone better than they did current windows phone 7 smart phones.
I predict that if worst comes to worst Microsoft will buy all of Nokia's smart phone division and let it run like skipe runs as a nearly interdependent company that will make Windows smart phiones.and keep control of Nokia's patents
