Nokia Phi said to have a 4-inch display, front plate revealed

0. phoneArena 17 Aug 2012, 08:11 posted on

Courtesy of a source from the far east comes a photo showing a panel that is supposedly made for the rumored Nokia Phi. The image leaks only days after the front plate for a 4.3-inch Nokia WP8 smartphone was revealed in spy shots...

Good to know there's likely to be some variety of phone offerings. I still am hoping for something with 4.7 or larger screen though, as that's become standard for top-tier phones like the OneX and GS3. 4 models would be great: 4", 4.3", 4.7ish, and a Note2-sized behemoth. Price them at $50, 100, 150, and 200 on contract, and Nokia will likely start regaining at least some of its smartphone market share

I agree with that statement. Take a look at the droid incredible for proof of what is gonna happen probably with that size of screen size. I hope not only I am wrong but there is other phones coming with bigger screen. Nokia has been doing the same thing ever since they have been in the smartphone business, which to me is pretty much think that they are in a world to them self and not try to compete hardware wise with other manufactures. I instead they have put out phones they think are good enough. The public does not care that they might be right and the chips inside are probably good enough. The they want the best of the best. And that's what sales results show. They need to put out the best phone that technology Alows

I dunno about "good enough", I think it's just been they're trying to be as miserly as possible with the hardware while focusing on making excellent software, kind of what apple does but better though with less profit. The 808 PureView is indiciative that Nokia still knows its business for certain hardware, and the N9 and Lumia 800/900 are good examples of its design and execution prowess. Are they top-of-the-heap phones? No, but they're not meant to be. They were stop-gaps to keep production lines going and get the name out again, which has been successful, while the high-end hardware is likely to come with Windows Phone 8. Granted the prior Symbian phones and the Asha series aren't super compelling, but they serve a function and still offer capabilities unmatched by any other OS except Android in most cases.

Yes I am one of those "I need a keyboard" people. I know I'm a dying breed but I am holding out hope that Nokia brings the E7 with windows 8 to market......please Nokia!

I don't disagree, but considering how the LG Quantum (first Windows Phone with a keyboard, as I recall) didn't do so well, not sure they'll make more. Plus the on-screen keyboard on WP is excellent

The HTC 7 Pro / HTC Arrive Windows Phone did well and has the best keyboard.

For all its flaws, I loved the Dell Venue Pro form factor. The portrait QWERTY works so well with WP. Its wishful thinking though...

Definitely. I was trying to remember which Dell it was that ran WP7, and all I could remember was the 5" Streak (Android) and the Aero. Thanks for reminding me. Portrait definitely works better in WP, especially with a wider phone, as narrower ones (like Blackberries) make it seem like the keyboard is too cramped, thus my personal preference for landscape-size but portrait orientation.
That said, my favorite keyboard form factor for a phone was the Nokia 6800 I had (still have it, actually, and play Bounce on it on occasion), which had the keyboard fold out across the screen such that it was held in both hands, and the screen was in the middle. Felt great, easy to use, very quick and accurate.

I have used HTC keyboard and I would say they have the best keyboards from the Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, 7 Pro, and Arrive running on Windows Mobile to Windows Phone. With the screens getting bigger I can see myself with a Nokia Windows Phone or Samsung Galaxy Note sized phone running Windows Phone.

Thank you. Finally someone else that doesn't need a giant screen. 4" is the sweet spot.

These leaked pics does not appeal to me. I won't pass judgment though until I see the real deal. Anyway, it wouldn't matter to me what Nokia brings this fall/winter. I probably won't see one on Tmo. If Tmo is willing, they'll probably replace L710 with the same cheap s**t. Can you believe it, a rep at Tmo told me not to buy the L710. Instead get the radar cuz its better and I did with no regrets. So what I'm I hoping for, an HD8. The HD7 was the best phone I've ever had.

If it's not at least a 720P HD display, then it will be a huge failure.

Easy boy. Let Nokia first start making decent dual-cores, then we'll think about HD display.

If this is 4", then this will probably get an 800x480 screen resolution with dual core, just like the leaked WP8 4" HTC Rio. As with HTC 4.3" Accord, the Nokia 4.3" WP8 will have the 1280X720 screen resolution.

HMM folks Nokia knows that there are folks who have smaller hands like Women and there are even Men who do not want a big ass smart phone in their hands. for them the 4 inchers are just right. I prefer a 4.5 incne. another thing is cost. Nokia likes to sell smart phones that people can afford to buy. 4inch screens are cheaper than 4.5 to 5 inch screens. Folks you must take in these factors before you say a 4 inch screen smart phone is not good enough. for some People it will be Perfect!

Pretty excited, larger screens would be a welcomed feature to WP on VZW... Of course anything other than the HTC Trophy would be welcomed since it is THE ONLY WP on VZW.

And it has been a great phone, in all fairness, but a close to 5" phone on VZW would be suh-weeeeet.

I think a 3.7" and a 4.3" inch screen will be enough like in Lumia 800 and 900.
A smartphone with a 4.7" inch will be to large.
(almost more lika a tablet than a phone)

Like carrying around a old VHS cassete. Maybe mostly young boys who want to compete with the biggest phone would like them.
But for the general user two sizes will be enough.

After all iPhone 5 will be only at one size.
