Nokia N9 will not be coming to the U.S.

Those living Stateside who had been counting on buying the Nokia N9 will need to look elsewhere for a new phone as Nokia says that the handset will not be available in the U.S.; those in the U.S. shouldn't feel picked on as it looks like the same thing is happening to those in the U.K....

no suprise really. It seemed clear this device was intended for markets where it wouldn't compete with Searay and other Nokia windows phone devices.
However, in the UK Play, Expansys and MobileFun are listing it for sale, and so i'm sure some online stores will list it in the US eventually too.

I do not think that Nokia will release a Meego device in any market where a smartphone OS's popularity is greatly tied to the software eco-system around it. Add to it, the total surrender to Microsoft by Elop, in no way would MS want a competitor to its already far in 3rd place mobile eco system.
Understand that Nokia(with Intel) is currently doing/done the hardwork of setting the Meego groundwork and the Application store will be very minimal.
In the US releasing a smartphone requires that you have a willing pusher among the Big 4 mobile service providers. To my knowledge the only carrier carrying a Nokia smart fone for contract is the smallest T-Mobile carrying the Astound(C7 variant, which is not even their best mid-level). And to my knowledge Astound was available for Free with 2 yr contract since close to the launch among the various e-tailers which shows how much TMo thinks its popularity would be!
Nokia can sell it only in
a) Countries where Nokia can sell its phones by its name itself.
b) The eco-system of the OS is not the most important thing.
c) Where purchases are driven mainly by individual customers rather than Carrier based sales.

Nokia got screwed over in it's lawsuit against Apple for patent infringement. Nokia had to make a deal with Microsoft to keep their heads above water. I would not expect Nokia to go into the smartphone market in the US anytime soon if at all.
If your upset the N9 not coming to America find an "idiotPhone" user and punch him in the face.

Is really sad, that such a well built device, with a refreshing UI is not comming its way to major markets. Im still waiting for launch prices to see if bring it to South America could be a good deal. I just bought a Galaxy S2... so im prepared to sell it if need it to buy the n9... or prepared to keep it if i need to wait for a year for the next galaxy phone...

nokia n9 can crash the apple iphone and this is why nokia don't sell n9 at the us market. Elop is spy of america and america is going to burn nokia. They need only us operating systems. IOS ANDROID WINDOWS PHONE. If nokia change the ceo they can go with european operating systems.

elop has no intention of making this phone a hit coz the N9 was not his idea and microsoft will be angry at him if N9 is a huge success!

You don't deserve good stuff in US. Let N9 hit Europe, because we can apreciate it!
You only buy toys that are push by your's carriers and you don't apreciate quality but only marketing!
