Last time, when Nokia launched its first Lumia smartphones, it claimed to be making the best Windows Phone devices. That was a jab to the competition but also partly true, as most phone makers are focusing

Nokia makes the best WP devices. If I were to get one, it would definitely be the Nokia 920

Agreed. But I do think that it is a mistake to not have microSD expand-ability.

Besides movies, what would anyone actually do with 32GB+ on a phone? I don't know about anyone else, but I simply cannot stare at my phone for 2 hours watching a movie. Moreover, the battery never lasts that long even with a full charge so I've never really seen the value in having even 16GB on my phone. My tablet and PC yes, but not on my phone.

Expandable memory is really only important on tablets, unless there's less than 16 GB of memory on board.

Agree, but music is a data space hog, so I would say 32GB is necessary for me to care less about the phone not offering expandable memory. Just take a look at how much storage your consuming on you phone now and you'll have an idea of the amount you need. Regardless, this phone offering 32GB will suffice for 99% of us.

some people record videos also...if you do, you will see that 32GB is not that much

Please, what phone do you use?
You clearly have no idea how it is to watch on 4.5+ inch of hd goodness in your hands.

For example, my sister uses MacBook for watching movies yet she watched a few episodes of her favorite show on my phone and was thrilled with the experience..wanted to bring it with her so she can watch the entire series on it!

Personally I would like to have all of my music and pictures synced to my phone... IMO the phones have taken over the function that used to be Ipod / Zune, so they should have expandable memory so if I want, I can jack it up to 64 gig to store all of my content...

To me that is the only short coming here... but I like what I see... and if Sprint would get off their backside, I would buy one of these as soon as they come out!

Music. My 64Gb iPhone 4S isn't quite large enough to store my entire music collection, so I have to pare it down. I'd like to be able to have everything.

If MS has decent integration with their cloud drive stuff, and good prices for online storage, this could be moot.

I don't know about you guys but I save all my pictures and videos to external SD. It would be a real pain to transfer all that data instead of simply poping in the SD card. Wonder why they gave the lumia 820 a slot but not the 920 which is supposed to be a flagship device

I agree as well but I would like to know which display is better. Nokia 920 LCD or Samsung Amoled. I know Nokia uses amoled as well but the 920 is LCD.

the difference is that amoled produces better "black" because it turns that particular pixel off. While LCD have backlights.

Each has their pluses and minuses. AMOLED offers for vivid colors, LCD will have more accurate colors. The display on the Lumnia 900 I checked out at the store was fantastic and I think I read an article a while back talking about some unique black technology it has. I can only assume the display on the 920 will be at least on par with all the other HD screens.

so, are you blind too? have you seen the lumia 920's spec? Aren't they almost identical? The only thing ativ s' upside was having a bigger battery and microSD slot.

Ya bro.. LUMIA also is brick like heavy 180G.. OMG.. NOKIA phone says "If you don't like my phone, then use me as a BRICK". And PLUS point for ATIV S are SUPER AMOLED HD, Micro Sd, Light Weight, Bigger Battery and what else you want from a phone?? And time will tell which is better MUMIA or ATIV S..

There are some inaccuracy or inconsistancy in thdata. Eg you have Lumia 900 listed with 6.8mm thickness and storage capacity of 920 differs from your other posts. So which is it?

Id like to say lumia. Great camera tech and some other cool features but 180gm is to heavy? For now im going with ativ - bigger screen, amoled, smaller thinner lighter. These things id appreciate everytime i use it. An awesome camera id only appreciate maybe once a month. But will wait for the reviews of both devices before final decision. Cant wait.

That's the problem of Windows 8... you just need to match the top specifications of your competition and all manufacturer flagships will be the same... the only possible differenciator will be the looks of the phones and some really minor specifications that are not really that different so that they can make you decide between one phone or the other...

The only things different with WP devices are their displays, cameras, and designs... Nokia is best with cameras, displays are arguable, and designs are arguable, especially since Samsung used a metal backplate on the Ativ S instead of the usual plastic.

thicker but better!!! you can scratch but you can destroy the beauty!! while ativ S is a cheap aluminum! early prototype has scratches already! even N8's aluminum body is way better!!

just accept it, nokia make the toughest, sturdiest, and most beautiful phones!
