Can I use this phone in Europe, if I buy it with NO CONTRACT ??
14. Bernoulli (Posts: 1432; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
No, it's carrier locked and at$t gives the unlock codes until after the phone is a year old, so you'd be sitting with a phone you can't use, save your money, buy it from nokia.co.uk I know those are not carrier locked but are a bit pricey, or just buy the nokia 808 pureview, that one will for sure work in Europe
15. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
That is actually inaccurate. AT&T locked the 900 for only 6 months (I know, I own one, and I got it before it was officially on sale and was able to get it unlocked October 7, 6 months after it was officially on sale), and, excepting the iphone, tends to lock its phones for 45-180 days, depending on model. As for the Amazon 920, it is likely that if it's an AT&T variant (it would actually say AT&T in the description) it is likely locked, but if the description says "unlocked" or "international" it is likely not carrier-locked.
Also, your recommendation for the 808 PureView may not be the best. It's a good phone with a stupendous camera, but may not be what many users want, given its less-intuitive OS (I have a 701 with Belle SP2, so I'm not blowing smoke here) and different array of features.
25. Bernoulli (Posts: 1432; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
I say it because I waited a year to unlock the Sony Ericsson it took a year for at&t to release the unlock codes, and the description says at&t exclusive for 6 months, not that after six months they will release the unlock code
27. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
You're making a generalization about a newly-released phone based on the ownership of a phone that's at least two years old. I'm not saying you're WRONG, just that your statement was inaccurate. There are even some phones AT&T can't unlock, like the Blackberry Bold, and others, like the iphones, have to have their 2-year contracts satisfied or the ETFs paid to get the unlock code. It varies per phone.
30. Bernoulli (Posts: 1432; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
And I'm 100% sure the lumia 920 IS among the ones you have to wait your contract on, think about it, it's a brand new hot phone, and in any case, you're telling this person that if they buy it from at$t they're going to have to wait 6 months for the unlock code, way to go Thanks, and the 808 pureview isn't like symbian^2 symbian^3 belle brings a lot to the party, since it's ecosystem supports city lens, widgets, multiple home screens, basically a lot like Android so not so bad, plus the LTE radio is for American bands on the 920, so the LTE will be useless if he's to live in Europe

I feel for Nokia, they made a good phone but were delayed by MS.
And now L920 has to fight with latest smart phones with half year old specs. From what I read things do not look good for L920.
4. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
half year old specs? really or are you just classing the fact that wp8 doesnt need quad core to run smooth outdated.....
i just love how you android users only think specs count when its in your favour. when it aint you suddenly declare specs arent everything
8. MeoCao (unregistered)
This is the same argument MS made for WP7 and we know how it ended.
People want the latest and greatest so never make such silly argument to them b-c they won't listen.
I never hear Android fans say specs are not important. In fact they are proud that Android phones always have best specs in the market.
Nokia did a good job with the phone, and MS did a bad job that's fact.
9. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
best specs, so when the iphone had the best screen you were all crying that the screen doesnt matter, then when an android with a better screen came out suddenly its important.....your becoming just like the apple trolls only matters if its in favor of you
nokia did a great job, one of the more innovative phones of the year and much needed in the swarm of android and iphones.
how has ms done a bad job?
10. MeoCao (unregistered)
MS always does a good job, that's for you so keep your belief.
Let's wait and see how your beloved WP8 perform against Android the Great.
12. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
lmao beloved, so someone who has been on pretty much every wp article to slate them is trying to say im on one side
mate your comments scream fanboy and a pretty arrogant one
android the great? seriously lmao thats sad. besides what version of android you classing as great? as most haven't got the latest version due to terrible updates. also when android first started it was extremely restricted and a horrible experience. it took TIME to develop and become what it is now
but you seem to think now android is in the position its in now that gives you the right to talk down to anyone who hasnt bought into your android camp.
nothing lasts forever, dont get too cocky
19. FranksGT (Posts: 167; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
Your a plain jane Idiot. Your beloeved Windows 7 phones wont update to Windows 8. Dont bash androids updates. At least they cycle through at least 3-4 updates while your stuck on one damn software. So when a new Windows comes out go buy another new phone because your old one will not update!
21. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
again and i dont understand why you cant grasp this simple thing, i dont have a beloved os because unlike you im not a fanboy
second calling me a idiot, did you read all the comment or just jump on the last one because you saw something negative against android.
so basically if anyone pints anything that isnt good about android there bashing it, but the android fans are allowed to attack apple and wp8 anytime they like ..........seems fair in your fanboy world right
and lastly and im bored with the side choosing crap you spout. i dont have a windows phone so the updates on my phone you havent commented on all you did was blindly jump in and defend your precious android as thats what you fanboys do
maybe you need to open your mind more, its funny how you use an open os yet are so closed minded
32. FranksGT (Posts: 167; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
I read the whole post, Im not a android fan I have used all OS's!
Work I use a Iphone 5 because they make me haha. Personal I use a GS3, and I recently had the Lumia 900 for My Xbox controller.
There is a lot of war going on in this hole forum between Fanboys mainly IOS and Android. From what I have read your a closed minded Windows fanboy end of story. Never said their junk, they just arent the best in my opinion. And dont give me that crap that you dont have a beloved OS, your on every Windows 8 review, topic, etc posting MAD post through the hole day!!!
34. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
lmao your pathetic you know that right, its like talking to a wall.
if you been reading any of my comments you would know i comment on many articles, android, wp8, iOS, bb etc and ive spent countless comments trying to get apple trolls to stop there BS, ive defended every os many times against fanboys like you who just arrogantly think if they say it its fact
i like tech, but this sites just filling up with people like you who think there the almighty and never wrong, defifnition of a fanboy. sure soon you will start attackin people calling them idiot or something....ohh wait you already did that.
and the fact your trying to paint me as a windows fanboy show you havent read any of my comments. come back when you open your closed mind and stop been a child
36. asseek (Posts: 164; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
actually Chaoticrazor is not a fanboy, i was surprised he/she was defending WPX OS, at first i thought he/she was an Android fan lol. Chaoticrazor takes no side against other, just states the pros and cons of every OS, and fight the fanboys like you, who just troll hatred against OSes they don't like..
22. freebee269 (Posts: 516; Member since: 10 Aug 2012)
you mean like how android comes out with jelly bean and half of the android phones with ics wont get jelly bean? looks like those ppl stuck with ics that want jelly bean will have to buy a new phone in the future.
29. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
How many 2.2-4.0 Androids get the update to 4.1/4.2? How many of the users will keep the phones to the time when those updates will be available?
Now, let's compare:
As of right now, all of the Windows Phone 7.5 phones (in the U.S. at least, I can't speak for global markets) are going to be getting 7.8. Not sure when, but they're getting it. 7.8 will have many of the same features as 8, but decontented some to work on the older hardware. They'll get the resizable tiles, a lot of the apps are staying the same, and the improved performance of the update. The phones can't run 8 because it requires a higher minimum performance threshold, much how ICS is relegated to dual-core processor phones and higher. Single-cores are stuck at Gingerbread. While a Gingerbread user could install a launcher that looks like ICS or JB, it's not the same thing, and can't do what those can. Whereas Windows 7.8 has many of the same features as 8 (as stated before), but designed for these lower-capability phones. So, really, Windows comes out ahead of Android. Android is still good, but, in terms of updates, Windows is just better (for now). That's good, because then Google can work to make their system more like Windows, and both can work competitively to push the envelope, which is great for the consumer as there's less demand to get the newer phone just to get the newer OS, so they spend less money on phones and can actually keep them for the two years of their contract (or longer)
16. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
...half-year old? There are still androids coming out with the same processors, and some in the pipeline to be running the same processors. Sure these may not have the quad core chips (don't really need them, either...) and only 1GB of RAM, but, as we all should know, SPECS AREN'T EVERYTHING. If we could put a 64-core chip and a terabyte of RAM in a phone right now it may run faster, but the OS and software can only go so fast, and the battery can only go so long. It's the same dilemna that occurred when multi-core processors started appearing in consumer computers. Plenty of power, but the OS and software weren't designed for it, so not much benefit.

thn explain to us why a dual core android lags and a single core WP7.5 doesnt?
23. FranksGT (Posts: 167; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
Because android is true multitasking while another of OS isn't. Its not the proccesor its the OS, and android has perfected with ICS and JB zero lag. I havea GS3 ICS and never have a problem. Hell my GS2 ICS was doing amazing. Also because your Windows OS is so limited, plain, and bland!
28. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
True, Android does support true multitasking, but so does Symbian, and it runs a lot smoother on a single-core processor with half a gig of RAM than many (not all) Androids do with dual-core processors and a full gigabyte of RAM. Even with all programs closed except the necessary ones for the OS Android can be laggy or stutter (MUCH less so on JB, and ICS to a point), but Windows Phone is a newer system developed to be on newer hardware, so it runs better. Android is still showing its age, despite the improvements, and while it is a more capable OS than Windows Phone, it has to use more power to get a similar experience. It's not a bad thing, per se, just less efficient. It's like cramming a big V10 into a truck when there are V6s available with the same power ratings and capabilities from the manufacturer.

26. asseek (Posts: 164; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
actually i agree with u on the delaying part, Microsoft is the one who delayed the sales of the Nokia Lumia 920, and other WP8 devices... it felt like ages, the period between Nokia's announcment of the Lumia 920 and 820, and the releasing of the phone
for the specs part, i don't agree with u on that part..

Seems like a nice phone for sure. At the end is just a phone, rather spend less, and invest in a nexus 4.
5. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
good for you, but why comment then?
and by your logic why not spend even less and get a low end phone or buy a used phone.
17. -box- (Posts: 3707; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Nexus4 is OK, but it doesn't have a great camera, doesn't have the super-sensitive excellent touchscreen, doesn't have LTE, and doesn't have the same OS or Nokia-specific apps the 920 does. $100-150 difference, very much worth it.
6. papss (unregistered)
Android fans are funny with there pull string comments. The 920 is as fast or faster than any android I've ever owned.
11. blackspot (Posts: 102; Member since: 14 Nov 2012)
I am loving the look of the Nokia 920 in Yellow! That is a nice fit.
13. clevername (Posts: 1428; Member since: 11 Jul 2008)
Just got it last night and damn i love this beauty. 10x's faster and more responsive that the galaxy s II I traded to get it. Best thing that android phone ever did for me was give me a $135 trade in credit to get this for free.
never going back to the buggy unstable robot.
20. FranksGT (Posts: 167; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
Fail, you sir are a moron. Unless you had rooted your phone to be as stupid as you are the phone was just fine. Never had any problems with my GS2, it actually recieved updates unlike all these Windows phone that when a new version comes out the old flagship phone gets kicked rocks and a new phone comes out. Enjoy your Lumia for about a year then new software will be out and you cant get it!
24. freebee269 (Posts: 516; Member since: 10 Aug 2012)
the fact that you're callin other ppl names shows your maturity level. i had a samsung infuse and motorola atrix, none of them got updated to the new android version. your arguement is flawed. it happens with android also.
33. FranksGT (Posts: 167; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
Your talking about a maxium of 10-20 phones, compared to ALL WINDOWS 7 phones not going to WINDOWS 8! Get over it fanboy!
35. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
and there you are, proof what a complete fanboy you are, and you have no respect for anyone do you
so basically what your saying is its ok when its android but any other os must be slated for it
your an adroid fanboy and you cant talk about updates.
37. lsneddeff5 (Posts: 5; Member since: 02 Oct 2012)
alright guys im gonna ask a stupid question because i really dont know. is verizon going to be getting the nokia lumia 920 or is it going to be available only to at&t?
38. papss (unregistered)
Agreed.. None are flawless in my book and if you are saying otherwise you are a blind fanboy.. Lets face it, we are all fanboys to some level but Frank is a perfect example ofa blind fanboy..hell I would put troll there too.. If you don't like the product you should go where people want to see your one sided comments.
