Nokia Lumia 800 against the world: specs comparison

0. phoneArena posted on 26 Oct 2011, 05:47

The Nokia Lumia 800 has finally been announced and it's the "first real Windows Phone," as Stephen Elop himself put it. But fancy words aside, what does it really hide under that beautiful pillow-shaped display?...

But which one never lags at the homescreen?

Pawned.

2. bobfreking55 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 05:54 2 3

and I think it should be compared to other Windows Phones. Too unfair with Android and (iOS)

4. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 05:56 6 2

None of them should lag at the home screen.

34. redmd posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:14 2 1

PA, are you writing "specs comparison" to put Nokia to shame?

Everyone here knows WP handsets are almost all the same from the start and won't be deviating from the strict requirements Microsoft imposed. Too bad, such are what we categorize now as mid-range.

35. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:33 1

to be more fair, you should throw in a BADA set, or an the SGS1+ or whatever its called, since they are in the same ball park.

Look, its nearly on par with the i4s :)

38. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:34 1

the camera comparison should include the fact that its a Carl Z with a much better aperature than most.

3. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 05:56 2

Shouldn't you compare it to other windows phones?

5. Mozarrt posted on 26 Oct 2011, 05:58 6 2

Atleast it wins in the looks department.

6. pongkie posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:01 2

hmmm no gorilla glass don't like, PA should also do comparison with other WP mango

19. ayephoner posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:22 6 4

no gg
no 4g
no front camera
smallish screen
small processor
small battery
half the ram
no SD card slot

and its still half an inch thick? im sure mango is cool, i like WP7, but this design seems awful. are they planning on giving these things away?

21. SpanishDeveloper posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:29 7

512 MB of RAM are quite enough to run WP7.5 perfectly and fluidly.

23. Firedrops posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:37 1 2

it may be able to now, but 6 months ahead into q2 2012, are you sure it can maintain that smoothness, and run apps on par with other OSes?

43. GJanee posted on 26 Oct 2011, 10:20 1

of course it will be. wp7 was made so, that it won't need powerhouses to run. if they'll come with more xbox live games whose graphics are far better than the current ones, they'll definitely update to that. but i don't think it's that close because the graphic chips are prettymuch kickass in these devices, as far as i'm concerned, and can hold on for a while.

52. SemperFiV12 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 15:45

As a user, I can say yes from personal experiences. My WP is still as crisp as day 1... Android on the other hand has had a lag since day one, and has increingly slowed down and become problematic.

For all the pros and cons of each OS (because they all do have many pros AND cons), reliability and speed is not an issue FOR ME on my WP so far...

And I have loaded it with media content from movies, recorded videos, MP3s, voice recordings, documents....

27. ayephoner posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:46 2 2

my post is just to question the thickness.

you see a phone thats half an inch thick and you'd expect to find some hardware taking up all that space, but there just isnt. points to poor design in my eyes.

28. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:53 3

512 mb of ram is all the i4s has. wp7 is a more simplified OS halfway between iOS and Android. It doesnt need as much horsepower. It was running smooth as silk on a S1 snapdragon for gods sakes.. lol

At least they went to the best of the best for single cores.. the over clocked Hummingbird.

29. nanozander posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:56

That's what Symbian users say... And fans of cirtain android manufacturers who don't provide enough RAM in their android devices.

39. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:35 1

each OS is different. iOS doesnt need the horsepower. Android does. WP7 is somewhere in the middle, but closer to the iOS side than the android side in power needs.

47. Habib posted on 26 Oct 2011, 13:23 1

ah this phone has bigger screen thn the Iphone 4S and same exact RAM, both not extendible SD CARD, and its 3g so what m i missing ?
and the battery even though its small in numbers, delivers. Lets really look at the comparison then put the specs Ayephoner!( that xplains everything)

53. ayephoner posted on 26 Oct 2011, 16:08

my concern is with the thickness.

why is there that much volume if the hardware is not there?

7. rycx365 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:02 3

It's the thickest by quite a bit

9. rycx365 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:03 2 2

But who cares, it looks the best :)

8. bigboss posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:02 2

After all windows phone needs less resources than iOS and of course android. How can you expect an efficient worker need a thousand assistants? Just because an average inefficient worker needs so?

16. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:13 2

Actually, i'd put it this way: How can you expect a small project to need a thousand workers to complete it, just because these bigger projects need so?

10. assasyn32 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:03 1

no front camera????????

11. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:04 1

Why do people care about looks so much?

46. -RVM- posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:49 1

Why do people care about having more points in some benchmark so much ?

12. rd_nest posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:08 1

RAZR is not using TI 4460. It's using 4430.

26. Victor.H posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:46

Thanks, rd_nest! We've corrected this.

33. ayephoner posted on 26 Oct 2011, 07:42 2 2

i hope you already have it planned, but can we see another razr vs. galaxy nexus article? the first one has some missing info (processor for starters).

maybe once the devices are made official and you get to review final builds of each. thanks victor.

13. kamen posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:11 1

And the standby? Mediocre - 265 hours. My Desire HD is at 420 hours and lasts 3 days. I cannot imagine the 800 lasting more than 2.
That was my phone of choice but may need to wait for the 900 :)

17. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:15 1 3

Why are you even thinking of switching from android to WP7? Just a question.

20. SpanishDeveloper posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:23 2 1

What's wrong with his decision? can't he try out a different OS?

25. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:46 1

I said just a question..?

32. kamen posted on 26 Oct 2011, 07:12

I am curious - that's all :) I am still using my N82 once in a few months. Plus, will not be trowing away my DHD

40. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:37 1 1

WP7 is an exellent platform. Its just a lil green around the edges. With the enhancements that nokia is bringing and influx of developers that will come with the increase in sales, it will come into its own in the next year probably.

14. SpanishDeveloper posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:11 2

I think with this movement Microsoft and Nokia are going to suceed in gaining the third place in market share.

I forecast the following with regard to market share for the next year:

Android: 55-60%
iOS: 30-35%
Windows Phone: 10-15%

24. Firedrops posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:38 1

I forecast Nokia continue making blunders like the N9, then blaming the market for it not selling.

15. kamen posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:12 1

PA.com, why didn't you put the Titan in? It's WP7 after all

18. SpanishDeveloper posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:20 1 3

Because HTC Titan doesn't deserve it xd

22. bigboss posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:32

Simply because Android doesn't have Nokia with them whereas Windows Phone has.

30. AhmadAlsayegh posted on 26 Oct 2011, 06:58

hmmm, i thought the Lumia800 had 512ROM and 1GB of RAM, correct me if am wrong, PA?
the 710 is the one with 512 RAM

31. jackhammeR posted on 26 Oct 2011, 07:09 3 1

well...even kids know that andro is fat ugly cow.
if it needs 1 gig to run "quite" fluid, manufacturers don't have any other choice.
IOS is much more better in energy efficiency (not always, but most of the time) and IP4S has 512 mb as well.
Andro is lagging even on high end andro devices.
WP7 is smoother on 1 ghz cpu, so should they throw into 1 gig because it looks better in spec sheet comparison???? The most important thing is it going in daily basis.

36. jsnruthlis posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:33 1

nearly half an inch thick?! wow. looks great in pictures but sure it wont be as attractive in hand considering its brick thick.

37. vivek.ray posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:33 1 1

Does spec comparison matters , IMO Microsoft is now best efficient OS developer . I am not a MS fan or any other OS hater , its just that WP7 is much resource efficient than other mobile OS out there .

41. snowgator posted on 26 Oct 2011, 08:43 1

As I imagine most of the posters here are in the US, let us not forget that Nokia is aiming these two products to the Europe and Asia markets. From what I can tell, lesser expensive devices sell better in those areas. I am still hooping for a Nokia 900 sighting, which is the handset aimed to introduce Nokia Windows to the US.

It still will not hold a candle to the high end Androids in a spec war. But it should provide a flawless performance on WP. I do wonder if the single core processors will allow for an upgrade to Windows 8, though.

42. sciencegeek posted on 26 Oct 2011, 09:53

Nokia wins in my book. Just looks too damn good on the outside to really care about what 's inside....just like Megan Fox

44. downphoenix posted on 26 Oct 2011, 10:49 1

Nokia makes great phones, but talk about some disappointing specs. It took them THIS LONG to come out with THIS?

45. joaolx posted on 26 Oct 2011, 10:51 1

Nokia looks a little outdated.

48. 530gemini posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:43 1

Hahahaha, android fanboys are defending this Nokia device, which confirms what I said that android fanboys are nothing more than Symbian lovers who hated the iphone so much, hahahaha

55. remixfa posted on 26 Oct 2011, 21:18

or were not close minded idiots who cant see past one platform.. like uhhh.. you.

49. wisdom01 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:47

THE USA WILL ONLY GET THE NOKIA 710 TOY PHONE. KISS MY A$$ NOKIA.

http://www.nokiausa.com/

50. wisdom01 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:50 1

ATTENTION!!!! USA you won't be getting the Nokia Lumia 800....you get the toy Nokia Lumia 710 haha.....as usual Nokia still shuns the US markets.

51. meetlens posted on 26 Oct 2011, 15:16

this comparison does not make any sense.why put dual core if the phone can handle almost everything on single core.its all about the OS being used. 1.4ghZ and 512ram is more than enough.look at all those huge batteries but still they struggle.if mer spec is what you desire, then the nokia ACE will be ok for you.

54. henrickrw posted on 26 Oct 2011, 20:25

Well boys... The Lumia looks as sweet as the N9, but I prefer my GS2.

Maybe I will get a Lumia, but as my day to day phone.
