It looks like Nokia and Microsoft windows 7 Tango class smart phones are off and
running at last I doubt that we will ever see theses smart phones sold in America.
Nokia has a presence in countries that do not have as high a living standard that is in America so this device is right for that market and will make Microsoft windows smart phones have a more global reach than Apple smart phones in the end.

Proves how bad Nokia wanted these markets. Microsoft was very, very smart to agree to this low end idea to get Nokia onboard. The Global reach of these phones will propel huge sales of the WP platform. That can only help in the long term growth of the WP OS.

This is prob the only way nokia will achieve any bit of success in the smartphone market as wp sales are extremely poor at the high end level simply because absolutely nobody opts for a wp phone for high price and long contract when they could get the likes of the galaxy s2 or iphone instead.

Unfortunately nokia picked the worst of the os platforms for their smartphones

Why would they make a lower end model with a higher number?

710 denotes a lower model number than a 730. It sounds more like they are making a slightly upgraded 710 if they are adding capacitive buttons and a bigger camera.. both of which are symbols of higher end than lower end. getting rid of the polycarbonate isnt a big deal, since the 710 is black and pretty square anyways. regular plastic will do just fine.. lol

If it were like a 630 with hard buttons, no clear black, and a 3mpx camera (or less), i could believe it. The phone described in the article would not survive in the ultra low end market, which is what the next windows update is supposed to be competitive in.

it might be nice enough to show off the next update, but a phone like that is definitely not destined for low end competition. mid range and american prepay maybe, but not el cheapo africa, china, and india.
