Nokia Lumia 1520 sells out in India

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is a massive piece of kit, as they say in the U.K. And with that gorgeous 6 inch 1080 x 1920 display comes specs that match. While the entry-level Nokia Lumia 520 and its T-Mobile branded brother (Nokia Lumia 521) might rule the roost, in India the Nokia Lumia 1520 is selling out. The phablet is not only out of stock at India's Flipkart, it is also not available at Nokia's online website...

I wonder what that might mean for sales of the 1320 in China since that sells at an even lower price than the 1520.

again a bad copy paste by PA
let me explain as i am indian what's the real deal
1)Lumia 1520 is an awesome device
but but but IT IS NOT SELLING LIKE HOTCAKES
See the Flipkart Ratings and reviews it has got 32 ratings only. Anyone can rate without buying( just like anyone can thumb this post up ) and after a new product launch the first few reviews generally comes after 50-100 ratings .. there are only 9 Reviews out of which none of them is A certified buyer meaning nobody has bought it from flipkart and written review.. and only 3 out of 9 have bought it offline .. the rest 6 have just written simple comments . Seriously this has a much weaker response than lumia 920 the 920 had wild reviews and ratings in 1st week . Only very Rich indians can afford Lumia 1520 it cannot become a hot seller here no chance at that price. And those Who can Actually afford buy Apple iPhones.. a iphone 4 is considered Much more valuable than HTC one performed here badly at high price
2) Flipkart is running a 10 % offer hence some buyers buy low and sell at higher price offline to make quick bucks . Flipkart must not have got enough stock maybe 20-30 pieces only

25. nokia12 (Posts: 493; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)

22. mikelemon (Posts: 95; Member since: 21 Nov 2013)
I also commend you for knowing 1 billion Indians. I won't know that many people throughout my whole life.

Btw all high end Lumias in India Has been flop models here...
whereas Lumia 520,620 sold like hotcakes ..
People buy Lumias because of Nokia and not windows phone..
Nokia use to be God OF mobiles here .. But sadly EFlop Ruined everything..
Without Nokia now microsoft has absoultely zero chance of becoming hit in India .. ask any indian

Nokia12, you working for Sammy and Google? Your lies are pathetic, and the next earnings report for Nokia will prove the 1520 has been a smashing success...
52. nokia12 (Posts: 493; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
firstly that post got posted twice by mistake hmm.. i can go on and right the same thing for you but don't worry i won't stoop at your level . all i am saying is based on valid logical reasonable explanations . i would happily accept my criticism if you counter it with logical explanation. if your best reply is that i am a fanboy or being paid then i don't have to say anything to you any sane with even half a brain can determine who is being a fanboy here.
P.s - the first thing i wrote was that lumia 1520 is an awesome device and secondly i have bought 5 phones till now out of which 4 have been Nokia . now i use htc , my brother uses samsung , and my father uses nokia ..
The reason i said it cannot become a success in India is not because lumia is bad ,.. i would love to own this beautiful beast anyday but the price is Ridiculous High for a windows Phone. India is not USA . we DON'T have Contract systems here . few are starting to come up but adoption is laughable. We have to pay full price for the phone and our earnings are laughable compared to USA . Please Read TrustADHA response below and then judge
This is Trustadha Resply credits to him just quoting him here since you aren't going to bother scrolling down
"You can check the stats avarage spent on phone in india is 7883 INR(google for stats).Based on flipkart you can not extrapolate that to entrie india.First thing flipkart is online shopping most of Indians don't go for online shopping as mostly we are touch-feel kind buyers(google for stats if you care).Second thing we are talking about windows phone not android, which costs more than 40,000 INR which is 5.8 times the average price. Finally flipkart is not the monopoly in mobile phone sales kindly check other online shopping websites its (lumia 1520) still available."
24. mikelemon (Posts: 95; Member since: 21 Nov 2013)
Please post a source of how many phones flipkart has otherwise your comment and stats are total rubbish.
26. nokia12 (Posts: 493; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
how would i know how much stock does flipkart have ? but the fact that there is not even 1 certified buyer review can easily point to very few units .. of course not everyone posts a review but not even 1 till now does not in any way suggest it's a hot sell
your point ?
28. mikelemon (Posts: 95; Member since: 21 Nov 2013)
You claimed they have 20-30 pieces. How do you know that????? You don't. Most people do not give reviews. I never give a review unless I am super satisfied or very distisafied. I am also a ebay seller and most people don't even give me feedback let alone product reviews.
That fact that you are giving out false information means everything you said in your first post could be false unless you give a source that is legit.
29. nokia12 (Posts: 493; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
seriously are you that dumb to see that 20-30 units was just an estimate by me that's why i wrote probably ..
i agree not everyone leaves feedback but even you can check out your selling history you will find even in worst scenarios there is at least 1 review out of 20-30 units you sell that's why i just made a guess of course it could be higher or lower than that. if it's such a hot seller there has got to be some reviews . the fact that there is not even a single review till now and hey it's been selling on flipkart from past 9 days already that gives enough time to have 2-3 reviews. you don't have to be an analyst to estimate that

mikelemon, no need to argue with this nokia12, these blind fanboys will never understand your logic, or arguments. They don't want to see anything other than Android getting successful. I'm also Indian, and I see lots of people using Nokia Lumia devices daily, and they aren't just low end 520, 620, or 720. I have seen lots of people even using 1020, 920, and was surprised to see many people falunting 1520, eventhough it was launched just few weeks back, hope nokia is able to get back to market leadership in India, 520 is really very good phone for it's price, no phone from samsung, Sony, LG, or HTC in same price bracket comes even close to it in terms of performance, only if Nokia has included Front facing camera in it, then it would have been adopted by more people over here, because with expansion of 3G connectivity over here, more people are looking for phones with video calling capability......But then also nokia is making some solid phones, and there is not doubt in that, non of the nokia phones I owned till yet were replaced because they stopped working, I replaced them because I wanted to try the latest models from Nokia, or other manufacturers, but you can't say the same for other manufacturers.........

Keep in mind that the article states that Nokia's own Indian web site is also sold out of the Lumia 1520. And somehow, I would expect that Nokia had quite a bit of inventory, at least more than Flipkart had.
Considering that two retail outlets that were selling the phablet are now out of stock, I'd say "selling like hotcakes" was an appropriate comment.

Online shopping is still in its infancy here in india. offline channels dominate india.. it's available everywhere offline and in other online stores
it's in stock in snapdeal.com ,infibeam.com, amazon.in ,ebay.in ,shopclues.com etc..
40. elitewolverine (Posts: 5185; Member since: 28 Oct 2013)
Amazon, first page and second page all show 1 or 2 left in stock...ebay, same story most the ones I clicked are 2 or 3 in stock.
So if online is in its infancy, yet the online choices I see are showing limited stock, that would mean the ones on the streets are doing even better right? Or is Nokia phones free of that mentality and doing better online than on the ground?
50. varuntis1993 (Posts: 49; Member since: 13 Jun 2012)
@nokia12 is right they must be having very less inventory and yea phones above 40k phones doesn't sell well in India and why the hell people are comparing the sales of 520,620 or 720 to 1520.....the price of 1520 is 3 times the price of 720 in India...I have seen many people with nokia lumia 520 but comparing the sales of 1520 to 520 is completely insane and I m yet to spot one with 1020 and about the 920 the drastic fall in price from 38k to 22k had led to increase in sales.
& It is not that I don't love nokia devices and their features like nokia drive so pls don't call me a fanboy :)

"Only very Rich indians can afford Lumia 1520" - Even so, there ARE PLENTY OF RICH INDIANS WHO CAN AFFORD A LUMIA 1520. It is cheaper than iPhones, and if iPhones have 5% of the smartphone market (as per your stats) the Lumia 1520 "selling like hot cakes" may not be off the mark by that much.
43. MySchizoBuddy (Posts: 152; Member since: 23 Aug 2011)
more likely scenario is that flipkart ordered like 10 models and it they were all sold out. PA got overly excited. Without knowing how many were actually sold you cannot in any way come to the conclusion that PA got.
btw regarding the 1billion popilation above. 700m of which live below the poverty line of $2/day

I wish I could get you one.. It really is an amazing device.. The Lumia hardware is to die for, and WP8.1-3 is Awesome.. You got to get your hands on this❕
18. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Actually, the 1520 is running WP8-3Black...
My mind is stuck on WP8.1.. Can't wait.
36. kaikuheadhunterz (Posts: 1157; Member since: 18 Jul 2013)
I've been using Nokia devices since my first phone (and still using), so I'm already dying for it
3. hurrycanger (Posts: 1566; Member since: 01 Dec 2013)
It's not too big of a surprise since the 1520 is a great phone. However, I am amazed that it is sold out even at $740. That's too high comparing to the price we get in the US. AT&T sells for only $590.
4. hafini_27 (Posts: 888; Member since: 31 Oct 2013)
I am surprised that Nokia managed to do that at such a premium price. Keep going Nokia!
5. xperiaDROID (banned) (Posts: 5629; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
In my country, I can't see anyone using Nokia, most of them are using Samsung and Apple. Oh well, trend followers. But it's different in India, they use Nokia, Indians have good taste.
Keep up the good work, Nokia!
59. akki20892 (Posts: 3901; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
now they use Samsung's phones around 60%, micromax 20%, nokia 10% and apple 5% and 5% others. and it's 100% true, because i seen samsung phone on people hands.

maybe there's not enough stock in the first place . . . just maybe
