Nokia India has tweeted to answer a customer question, and it seems that the first update to the Nokia N8 will be arriving sometime in January. Now, we guess they mean the huge update, which improves on more than 50 issues with Symbian^3, notably the browser interface, and introduces a portrait QWERTY keyboard.

If that is the case, Nokia is keeping its promise to out the update in the first quarter of 2011, and at the earlier end of it to boot. Considering the Nokia N8 fell to $399 at Nokia USA, with the update this camera-centric smartphone should be selling pretty well. Most likely the delay in the commercial launch of the Nokia E7 is also due to the wait for this software update to Symbian^3. We'll see what the future brings, but in the meantime rumor has it that Nokia is exploring all options for non-Symbian handsets from now on.

Glad Nokia's finally hard at work improving Symbian. Hopefully they are approaching Meego with just as much attention. Nokia N9 where art thou?
