Nokia Group posts 2.5% loss on $7.8 billion revenue for Q1, Lumia sales on the rise
0. phoneArena 18 Apr 2013, 05:17 posted on
Lumia sales marked a huge increase of 27% compared to the last quarter of 2012, which is pretty significant, considering Q4 is a holiday quarter, and Nokia managed to sell 5.6 million of its Windows Phone-laden handsets. All for the sake of its non-WP handsets, of course, whose sales registered a steep quarterly decline - 5 million Ashas and 0.5 million Symbian handsets in total...

GO Nokia, keep it up. Release a few monster phones and you will grow again!
Also don't forget the 3rd world countries, you can sell dump phones there like hot cakes!
5. No_Nonsense (Posts: 826; Member since: 17 Aug 2012)
3rd world countries is pretty rash to begin with, and its dumb phones not dump phones. The real deal will perhaps come in the next quarter where in 520/620/720 have been put on sale and are going to be better sellers than the 920. Still this result is pretty good and they may just get back to the top if the EOS and Catwalk/laser + the other lumia lineup turns out to be good.

Well i dont think so, cause with that WP with Nokia its difficult for users to like the phone, due to limited specs!
While iOs and Android and BB are enjoying this years highend Cpu@Gpu, Nokia@MS are on last years specs!
it's time for Nokia to leave MS and start using there own OS: Meego, Sailfish, Maeemo™
Well Nokia is to blame, there getting injected funds from MS and have another few years with thier contract with MS. When expired they shall be more independent on thier own OS, or try Android, they dont have to sign a agreement, unlike MS!

You have to lie to prove a point. Which part of BB or ios is anywhere close to having this years new gpus and cpus? iPhone doesn't even have 720p, neither have wireless charging, iphone has no nfc, apples old architecture is geting beaten by the new ones, not to mention BB is having questionable sales and BBs camera is crap.

You really believe it would be a smart move for nokia to move into android territory? Where the likes of HTC is barely holding on in comparison to samsung. Nokia is making good gains in WP. WP is a lot more stable of an os, the devices meet certain restrictions that won't segregate each and every device from updates and improvements. Where android has a very fragmented experience. I'd safely bet that if the lumia 520 or the other lower models came to prepaid... those devices would eventually take over that market due to the lower costs and more reliable hardware alongside the software.
60. Jaeel (Posts: 27; Member since: 18 Apr 2013)
By "enjoying", do you mean they eat them CPUs/GPUs? Cause performance wise most of them are nothing special.
72. Emily1985 (Posts: 123; Member since: 08 Nov 2012)
So much stupidity in one comment, you probably broke some record.
45. joseph98 (Posts: 167; Member since: 03 Feb 2012)
Yet the stock is down 12%. Nokia fan wanted windows 8. You get what you deserve. When we said Android we mean it. Nokia can only survive when they make an Android phones OS. Is it that hard to see?

Stephen Eflop said in his documentary, that he dosn't and dislikes high-end specs, he prefers average™
49. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
and the usual crap continues, will all android fans go and just be happy with the offerings they have instead of spreading bs that androids the only way to success
HTC, Motorola ,Sony and even Lg arent making much to shout about using android. HTC use both and still arent doing well so nokia focusing on wp and showing improvement is a slap in the face of fanboys like yourself
i want choice, and android isnt for everyone. just get over this os superiority complex you android fanboys have. your os has the same chances to succeed as others theres no guarantee

Well dominating and a staggering 68% worlwide, sure it does™
Choice is Android, cause you are free, not closed os, with fence or being in prison™
You can't do this, you can't do that, can't have this™
This is not choice, this is restriction®

Dude get a life, i use Android an i must say it is a crappy os, laggy and buggy! And Troll stop trolling around because you talk crap......mister shahrukh khan wannabe.... yes i know you!
78. LumiaLover (Posts: 160; Member since: 27 Sep 2012)
It is restriction for a reason numpty. It means that your phone remains stable and fluid. I took a fancy to the HTC One when it was launched. I went to have a look at it at my local Three store and surprise surprise the quad core beast lagged!! I couldn't believe my eyes. It's not the hardware, it's the software. Besides, on my Lumia 920, I can make high quality calls, send texts send emails, browse the web, play games, take excellent photos and all with a beautiful UI. If this is imprisonment, lock me up for good and throw away the key!! BOOM BOOM!!!
77. LumiaLover (Posts: 160; Member since: 27 Sep 2012)
Did you not read the article? Lumia sales up 27% on 2012 Q4 holiday season sales! Why would Nokia only survive selling Android? Part of Nokia's sales success so far with Lumia is the WP8 OS. Everybody who sees my phone loves it. You need to open your eyes a bit and realise that there is more to the world than Android. I can't wait for this time next year when all you haters will be completely silent because Nokia and WP will succeed.

I as an android user have the deepest respect for Nokia and really do hope they one day get back to being the biggest mobile phones manufacture in the world as they have been the most innovative company in the world and really do deserve there crown back deserve it.
I know that all of these posts will get thumbed down by some stupid fan boys/trolls who hate anything to do with Nokia or wp. However it's ridiculous when would half of the technology in your droids/iphones wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Nokia's inovation.
Once I come to upgrade I probably will find it difficult to choose as Wp is progressing really quickly into an amazing os.
80. LumiaLover (Posts: 160; Member since: 27 Sep 2012)
Great comment superstar! We all know that WP has it's limitations but you have helped to prove the point that most people who see WP take an instant like to the look and feel. I only ever had Android phones prior to my Lumia 920 and I did like Android but I just feel that WP feels a bit classier. I wanted the Lumia 920 the moment I saw it online at the launch event. Yes it's a bit bulky and quite heavy compared to most modern phones but it just oozes quality and it just works for me.
I match your sentiment about wishing Nokia all the best because they are the true innovators and the true pioneers of high quality hardware.

Perhaps they are a larger part of Samsung's troll campaign, no wonder we've been seeing too many "I-hate-everything-no-Samsung" guys lately.

So they lost 2.5% for real but based on the fudged number they made a profit?
58. Muzhhur (Posts: 248; Member since: 14 Sep 2012)
An economic note just for economist, why always think that in the previous period if you cannot sell the same volume you are losing? thats why many economies are stuck by the analyst and restricted markets.
Nokia has got some selling devices, not enough but its better than nothing
61. jcpwn2004 (Posts: 314; Member since: 18 Jan 2012)
If nokia could just release another flagship and slim it down a bit and get a better screen/battery life I would consider buying. Their build quality/design is top notch.
It'd also make the switch a lot easier if they'd just make a damn phone with stock android on it.
62. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
stop begging it, you want android you have other options go pick one
as for your comment on better screen and battery life, never heard compliant's about say the 920's battery life on day to day use. screen is fine too....if your reeled into this 1080p craze well its just a number to brag
but mostly stop begging it, android and nokia aint happening for the fore see-able future move on and stop whining about it
67. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
O so now 1080p is a brag?
O wait the next Lumia phone will have 1080p quad core they will soon become like Android lifting those restrictions!
What a joke such so in denial!
You no you want those specs, to bad wait another year!
O wait you use s60 which uses 4 years old specs and is outdated!
69. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
ok lets make you look an idiot again your sad excuse of a person
first 1080p is bragging rights only, you wont notice the differant in day to day use except those with 1080p will have shorter battery life or need much bigger batterys. then the fact HD movies are massive in size means you will be limited to the number you can have.
on my supposively 4 year old spec phone i have 23gb of videos which include 3 series of a certain show. ive never felt lacking in the picture quality.
also your stupid troll my 4 year old spec phone has a 41mp sensor which beats all other phones so how does that make you feel that my supposed outdated phone is superior at something dumbass
your second comment is bs coming from you, you hate on everything non android then cry when i make you look the fool you are
so either go away for good or...no thats the only option available to you i wanna see you disappear permanently
68. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
What's you're problem?
What is it to you?
Why you kicking off for!
You're the one whose whining, and can't tolerate others who wants to have Android! It's choices!
What's you're problem!
73. Antonyjoseph (Posts: 214; Member since: 06 Apr 2013)
If Nokia can bring in another Windows phone below 520 (Lumia 420?), maybe with a 3.5" screen and lower resolution, it will shut up everyone who says only Android can provide low end smartphones.

Nokia Nokia Nokia...what are your plans this year? seems your that hype from the competition.
