Nokia Gem is 100% touchscreen and 100% concept
0. phoneArena 11 Nov 2011, 22:29 posted on
Nokia thinks that the natural progression from touchscreen is touchphone, or screenphone, or touchscreenphone - 100% touchscreen - and it looks pretty sweet, even though it's just a concept mockup...

Running out of surfaces is not the problem....
How do you hold a phone that is completely touch activated?

if it is touch concept why does it have a keypad?

That would be a lot of screen to provide power to. Cool idea. Not too realistic. I don't think I would get one.

Yes, "interesting concept". It's just that this "intriguing" concept is the first that comes to our mind, especially ten years ago among first-semester industrial design students.
The difference in what is just an "intriguing idea" and what's really something worth mentioning is the realisation.
Besides, this concept is stupid and doesn't quite show the reimagined phone. It reminds me on first cars that tried to look like carriages with horse busts mounted on front. Like so, this still looks like classic phone, instead it has a screen all over it.
Not very intriguing at all, just shallow linear expansion of existing technology, does not redefine the way we are using something.

I differ on your take. they said transportation isnt possible but They have already proven that it is. With this concept, possibility is endless. Anyway its only a concept.

Look nice but why nokia thinking on the fucture when they have now ugly cell phones this prototipe how u going tu a case and i will like to see is the iron man cell phone is much cooler and more realisty

Nokia certainly doesn't have ugly phones. N9/Lumia 800 are among the best looking touchscreen smartphones ever produced.

The power consumption on this will be enormous, also, when you hold the screen how will the computational engine know you don't want to actually touch the item on the screen.

Battery industry is in fact the most advancing industry here, so it shouldn't be a problem when (if!) such devices emerge.
Software that calculates wheter you are holding the phone or using it is definitely the greatest challenge, but considering the latest advancements in complex AI-like calculations it could be done, especially in the near future.
But like I said, the difference in "interesting idea" and something worth mentioning is how succesful is the realisation. There are tons of "intriguing" ideas when you have Star Trek technology at your disposal.

Kinda of ugly i still prefer the concept of the Mozilla Seabird and Nokia 888

I like it some what...if only nokia could market this phone right I think it could be a hit!

idiot nokia! even their imagination for next decade is not realistic and feasible. look design even iphone 4s has better design! where was camera? how about battery life?
how about resolution per every side! look samsung`s or apple`s concept phones. see the difference

Dude, it's just a concept phone. It's not meant to be great in design or with no issues. It's just to show us some new ideas. It's also here to prevent companies like Apple to claim that they invented such trivial things like touchscreen finger control etc.
20. dunyfunny (Posts: 20; Member since: 05 Nov 2011)
dude this idiot company can not see future of industry. they can not imitate, either. 4 years ago they imagined future with button phones! there were already LG, Apple and Sony Ericsson touchscreen phones in the market. look nokia aeonhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v
that is the reason they had still difficulties adapting to touchscreen transformation

The fact that Nokia was the concept designer for this is the main thing that gives me pause. They've made rather scarce attempts at significant innovation and instead, resting on their laurels, created "safe" phones guaranteed to succeed just enough to make their profit margin. Whether you like apple and google or not, at least their presence forced the mega companies like Nokia and Microsoft to wake up and think again.

consider its a full body touchscreen, how you hold it on your hands?
18. lubba (Posts: 1309; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
Another dumb question! Anyway, hold it anyway you want.

I had exactly the same idea 8 months ago, and was posted on my blog. I called my idea Phlow - a phone that flows like water.
