Nokia EOS may launch as the Lumia 1020

We don't know a huge amount about Nokia's next big thing, the EOS. We know that it will more than likely be announced next month; we know that it will have a borderline unnecessary 41MP camera; and, we know that it will likely come in a range of colors, just like other Nokia devices. But, a new rumor may have a name for the device...

How can you say you have "clearly" done more research than I have? Did I state how much research that I have done so that you can conclude that you have clearly done more research than I have? Do you own a 41MP smartphone from Nokia? I do.
If you have clearly done more research than I have then you would already see what all the fuss is about. I never stated that I have done more research than you have but as a photographer and one that has used the best camera technologies from Nokia since the 2007 Nokia N82, for you to have clearly done more research than I have, I GREATLY commend you on your years of experience with Nokia's software algorithms, their optics, partnership with Carl Zeiss, Xenon flash capacitors, developments with Lossless zoom (starting back in the S60 3rd days), ND filter development, pixel size, optical zoom development, aperature, video bit-rate, MEMs mics, and various other Nokia camera specific feats. Thank you for letting us know that you have clearly don't more research than I have and yet still don't know what all the fuss is about.

Blah blah blah......its all about a camera! What else can Nokia do except for some incredibly durable devices!

Very good and free voice-guided SatNav for ~100 countries.
For me, having a good camera, good offline SatNav and good smartphone in one robust package is ultra-convenient. Especially as I visit friends and relatives in several countries.

Lumia 1020 makes perfect sense to me. Their naming convention is based on equipment level + generation. So the 800 and 900 were gen 1 (WP7.5), 820 and 920 are gen 2 (WP8 dual core), and the 1020 is the highest level of these gen 2 phones. Then when they come out with a quad-core this fall, that'll be the 940 or 950 or whatever, and the EOS version will be the 1040/1050.

"we know that it will have a borderline unnecessary 41MP camera"
It will capture much more details than any other phones.

lol i think he is right average consumers dont care about 41MP camera
49. roldefol (Posts: 2855; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Agreed, I think a balanced approach is better for the average buyer. The 1020 will be great for people take a ton of photos and need the very best cameraphone, but someone who just takes casual photos here and there might be better served by a sleek HTC One, an S4, a Lumia 92x, or an iPhone.

Thats not a flagship device..I you still compare with 1020, it has more apps and features with great photography ..but s4 zoom is a very niche device

IDK why they keep reviewers/writers who don't know anything about tech world OR are just simply paid writers :X

hmmm.. 1020=4 digit number.. 4=quad core??
69. roldefol (Posts: 2855; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Seriously. I'm sure you could find the word of God in Nokia's naming scheme if you looked hard enough.
It's very simple. 920 + 100 for the awesome camera.
65. WHoyton1 (Posts: 1618; Member since: 21 Feb 2013)
Well what else they gonna call it which has 20 in it? 920.5??
120. SOwhat (Posts: 16; Member since: 21 Jun 2013)
its official it runs in a quad core 2 gig ram

"we know that it will have a borderline unnecessary 41MP camera (unless you really need to print billboard-sized copies of your images, of course)."
Good grief!!! When will you guys learn? The purpose of the 41mp is not to produce billboard-sized images, but to allow lossless zoom and enhanced quality at lower resolutions - the surplus pixels being used to combine to create a more accurate "super" pixel. It obviously works since the 808 is still far and away the best camera on a smartphone.
So why make such lazy, throw-away comments like the one I quoted above? It's bad journalism.

If I could, I'd give you 41 Million Thumbs Ups!. Truer words have never been spoken about the PureView Pro system in the 808 and presumably EOS/1020.
It is like some writers go out of their way to be negative or misinformed and to lead unsuspecting readers to have a inaccurate view and opinion of things.
When I write articles for MNB, subject matter accuracy is a must, otherwise I might as well not publish the article.

Wowhoho! He said that we dont need 41Mpx?? - Maybe only haters dont need it, as their Androids doesnt have it! :D
Maybe we need 41Mpx which is a stepping stone towards innovation and Nokia's Pillars are Maps & Camera So they're focusing on it like Samsung on Screen & Processors and Sony on Screen & Water Proof Devices.
As If ppl need those Humongous Screen Phones From Samsung & Sony of 6+ Inches??
91. WHoyton1 (Posts: 1618; Member since: 21 Feb 2013)
I would rather have a large beautiful 1080p screen which I will use every time I am on my phone rather than a 41mp camera which I will use only 1 in 10 times I use my phone.....comment invalidated!
94. roldefol (Posts: 2855; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Well, it's a good thing we have you to speak for everyone. If we all had our own personal needs and tastes in phones, they would have to offer us variety and choice.
88. ChiX017 (Posts: 308; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
Wow, i don't think 41mp is "Borderline unnecessary" given the fact it is all about oversampling and not a regular zoom camera. #takenotePhonearena

Did you really just put hashtags in a comment?
118. SOwhat (Posts: 16; Member since: 21 Jun 2013)
IF the source is via WMPU then why you add this line/? "41MP camera (unless you really need to print billboard-sized copies of your images, of course)" ? Who's the writer? You mad dude?? Go piss off coz nokia eos will rock your boat all day.

Euhhmmm it was known months ago that the EOS would be called Lumia 1020 or 1001, like i reported months ago on PA!
