Nokia C3-01.5 leaks with 1GHz processor, might chart the future of Series 40

The Nokia C3-01.5 might have one of the most unusual names in Nokia's lineup, but it will surprise you with more than just a name. This candy bar handset doesn't look any different than...

Well, what a strange turn of events...
I have been avoiding getting any new Nokia phone because my gut was telling me that, apart from WP7 prospects, garbage phones would be on the way in droves. However, this idea of pairing Java-based Series 40 with a freakin' 1GHz processor is quite stunning... it means that Series 40 (and Touch and Type version, too) may become the snappiest and smoothest feature phone UI ever. And with Nokia's history of quite decent hardware, this is a breath of fresh air. I wonder if this will be the start of a new trend for feature phones... I wonder if feature phones will become as capable as the earlier "classic" smartphones, or perhaps even better seeings the hardware will be extremely fast stuff? I mean, if LG put document viewing capabilities on the Cosmos 2, then why couldn't Nokia decide to let S40 phones do the same or better with the likes of a 1GHz processor on board? That kind of thing just might tempt me to return to Nokia, possibly.

I don't think so.
I think that feature phones as we know them today will die, as more and more phones become smartphones. 3 years ago buying a cheap smartphone would be next to impossible - while today we get the iPhone 3GS as low as 50$ via contract.
So - in the future - almost all phones will be smartphones.
And 1GHz in S40 is like a 500HP engine on an old fiat. It can only go so far..

Yeah, the one day I decide to be optimistic... ilia1986 comes along, and busts my bubble. I have to agree with you, but I hope it will take longer to kill all feature phones than we may think right now. And I fear that Nokia may die with S40, side-by-side with all the other feature phones...
S40 cannot become the new "Symbian"... it just isn't possible. Except in my mind, where all sorts of strange things can happen...

Actually my post is quite optimistic as smartphone >>>> feature phone in every regard.
And remember that Nokia isn't dead. It's still got WP7. Just don't expect them to dominate the market like before 2007 - and everything should be fine.

Yeah, I hear ya... but I'm not (yet) a fan of WP7, and I happen to think that feature phones are quite affordable and useful... especially for older people... I will be an old codger soon enough! That and I'm poor, so smartphone is no longer realistic... lol

do you know ilia1986 that the nokia c3 is selling like hotcakes around the world. possibly even outselling the iPhone. it is a feature phone. feature phones will never die. they would improve.
and in the future the line between smartphones and feature phones will be blurred. and the nokia c3-1.5 is the herald for that event.
BTW isn't nokia the KING of feature phones?

Feature phones would die, as already you can purchase smartphones which are cheaper than some feature phones.
And yeah Nokia is the king of feature phones. That's probably the reason they are drowning - and have decided to switch to WP7.
Hepresearch - you do realize than it's highly likely that people will port Android to Nokia WP7 phones, right?
And since today most feature phones already have a touch-screen, there would virtually be no difference between using a smartphone - and a feature phone.

All it needs a upgrade and then they'd be best like always......... ;-)

For web browsing! All informations from web has to be proceeded and drawn on a display. And C-01 supports 3g networks. It will be very good phone.

I have been using 2700 classic and X2-00 both running on S40. The new processor and the RAM will add speed to the OS but can this support features like Adobe Flash, PDF file reader or a full wap browser?

the last nokia i have is the E72, its still being one of my backup phones, its reliable, stylish and solid. I used to dream of a nokia touchscreen phone exactly the size and shape of E72,, but running Android, wouldn't it be nice ?

If the new version of nokia s40 will add more features for developers we would probably cross the limit of running just j2me applications and a 1ghz processor and 512 mb of ram would be significant! but if this limit stays in s40 ,java apps will never exploit a 1ghz and a huge memory and that s pretty crazy from nokia .costumers would say :"yea i have a powerful handset but i can t enjoy its power!' moreover nokia s40 os can never beat their new symbian ~3 known as anna and also with a 2.4 display it is pretty embarrasing
