The august body of the FCC got a chance to see something that most Americans can only dream of holding in their hands, the Nokia 808 PureView; the Feds also got to see exactly what this phone is made of, and you can too...

Bulls**t... It is known that they will release a WP device with same/similar sensor... They are doing the same thing as they did with the N9/lumia 800. And no, the N9 did not sell nearly as much as the lumia 800, and no the Nokia 808 wont sell as much as it's equivalent with WP, and it's really sad that you think that way...

Your sad, for thinking that everybody loves WP; fact is the only reason WP is still around and not with WebOS it's because Microsoft has the deep pockets to keep it afloat.
I'll give them credit for being persistent, lol.
AND yes the N9 did sell as much as the Lumia phones ( and with less marketing push and carrier support!); in fact the Lumia series owes the N9 it's design thus the reason why it is praised by everyone in the tech industry.
And I guarantee you that the Nokia 808 will sale just fine even without the marketing support that WP is getting!
LASTLY for the record, Symbian was the only matured OS that could handle the new sensor used in the N808. WP won't be getting this tech until Microsoft upgrades the OS to the level that Symbian has evolved to!
The only sad part about this is that Nokia is basically giving up it's hardware assetts to Microsoft in the long run...

I agree.. thats what Samsung did in India They didnt sell the Galaxy Nexus because they fear of low sales of S2. Nokia doing the same thing here!! :P

Symbian was good for what it was during it years. However It could never pushed the boundaries like iPhone and Android did.

Symbian would been at the top if they had kept improving and developing it according to they trend . But they did not do it and it became stale . And now its too late .

Symbian has been around for a long time. What more could Nokia do with it? Basically it has matured. And I would say the same about IOS and Android. Take a look at at both ios and Adnroid screens. Stare at them and think about it. Nothing much has changed! Though the only excitement surrounding them are specs (clock speed), the faster, the more hard on techies get! But normal folks are most satisfied with what the phone can do for them. WP was a good choice for Nokia. There is so much to do with the OS. Excitement will continue for years! Just like to add, ios There is not much more they can do with it. So it appears as though gimmicks is the next step for ios, a la liquid metal, to produce techi hard ons. siri? Everyone at my work place has an iPhone but have never seen anyone put it into action. Gimmick? You decide.

With iOS, almost nothing has changed. With Android, not much changed until ICS. If you look at stock Gingerbread and put stock ICS right next to it, the two are very different. The gimmicks are really tiring. 3D, liquid metal, Siri, the new S-voice, Micro-arc oxidation was the most practical of all the gimmicks, though with some problems, it needs work. The same could be said with liquid metal, but everyone will be all over it because it's on the iPhone (in a few years) and there can't be any problems with the iPhone! (sarcasm)

It said to be under 14mm thick, which is actually pretty good.
Compare it with the HTC Rezound or the Motorola Droid 4, or even the original iPhone. It's not really that bad, it just looks bad in the pictures.

I would buy this because of the camera awesomeness. The phone part, not really much. Android or WP version is very much welcome.

Well I'm not yet the one that buys a phone for a camera. For me, smartphone means internet browsing. Then is up to the person if he loves having a cameraphone rather than an internetphone. To be honest, who loves making photo at such point - buys a reflex camera...probably this phone is just for photo enthusiasts - that own a reflex but like to have a more portable device in some situations. The best photocamera is the one you have at the moment, they said.
However, for the photo non-enthusiast may be just something to show at friends. Probably would not see much difference from a crap camera.
It's like those that want 2 gigs of ram on a phone without knowing hows ios or android foreground or background management - you really don't need so much ram, both oses suspend or freeze oldest background activities when a new app requests more memory. In addition, more ram would waste your phone's battery.

When they say not coming to the U.S. they mean not coming to a carrier in the U.S., will still be able to get it through places like Amazon, just not subsidized, It was the same with my N8, I personally prefer it that way, do not like 2 year contracts.

Then what's the point of going through the FCC when it's not available in the states? when this is the only NOKIA phone I would really love to have. It's plan stupid if u ask me even though they have to test it for saftey reasons
