T-Mobile has that covered. Bring your own phone and pay less on their Value plans than you would on a Classic plan with a subsidized phone.

Same with AT&T. Just give them the IMEI, grab a compatible SIM card, setup the plan with data and text as necessary, and you're on your way, no contract required. No savings that way though, compared to T-Mobile, but at least no contract.

Or do what I do with my Nokia N8, pay as you go on T-Mobile, since I do not have a need for a lot of minutes and no need at all for a data plan, my cell phone charges are about $4.00 a month and if for some reason I needed to access the internet without WiFi I can pick up a week pass for $10.00.

2.) Sell carrier subsidized mobile phone Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300;
3.) From the sale of the carrier subsidized mobile phone Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300, buy a Nokia 808 PureView RM-807 mobile phone.
That's how I got my Nokia N82-00, sold my carrier subsidized mobile phone Sony Ericsson G700.

Better: Get a "dumb phone" from AT&T. Unlimited data is now $15/month, instead of $30/month for 3GB for a smartphone plan.
Take out the SIM and plug into your 808. Because it is Symbian, it is also not formally recognized as a smartphone by AT&T (ie. their serial number checks tend to ignore Nokia phones).
Keep your dumbphone as a backup in case you need to send in your 808 for repair.
You save $360 in 2 years.

If you are not getting a subsidy from a carrier, why do you have to sign a contract? If you pay full retail with VZW, you are on a month-to-month contract.

If I'm not mistaken, only VZW gives you that option for online orders and in-store. AT&T has done/does this with all current iPhone releases but you can only purchase the phone full retail in-store.

It has a (supposedly) better camera than a $250 point and shoot, has great reception and makes phone calls, has a touch screen and internet access on the go, which is worth about $400-700 depending on phone maker & other features, and you have the convenience of carrying just one device for most circumstances, which is priceless. Any price under $600 is a steal

808 is very high camera resolution but everything else are very low specs. Windows phone. I will skip this phone and go for Galaxy S3.

or with att take the subsidy on the highest resale phone (iphone) and sell in on craigs and pick up a cheap internet able flip phone. $10 unlimited data (or $15) seems like a decent deal to me

non smart phone data plan is unlimited on att. its $15 with out texting $10 with texting. if you have a phone with an IMEI that they do not have in their data base, this works,
the ethics are one thing, but unbranded phones still have this loophole for now. i imagine att customer percentage of unbranded phones is less than 1% (no facts just my pure speculation)

you get way cheap options. if you dont mind having slower internet, any unlocked GSM phone on Tmobile is an awesome deal. And its even more awesome if its pentaband or a Tmobile phone to pick up 4g frequencies
Unl text and data with a 5 gig 4g throttle limit, and 100 mins for $30 bux
or
unl, talk, text, and web without 3g/4g internet is $50 a month.
or the same with 4g web @ 2gig throttle = $60 a month
or the same w 4g web @ 5 gig throttle = 70 a month.
all no contract.

Depends on the phone/network. Not all international phones work on anything faster than EDGE on AT&T

Not sure if this is finally a U.S. model or just an import but the 808 is finally on the U.S. Amazon website (~$700 I was hoping for better, but its only one retailer so the price will probably come down as more retailers make them available in the U.S.) :

In the U.S. with an unlocked phone go with StraightTalk, choose their AT&T network SIM (you get AT&T's huge network) and then go with their unlimited phone, sms, data plan for $45 a month and no contract.
It's a seriously good deal and works perfectly for unlocked phones where you'll save tons of money over the 2 year life of a contract at one of the big operators.
