No more post-paid T-Mobile devices at Target starting April 7th

0. phoneArena posted on 08 Mar 2013, 00:12

Starting April 7th, Target stores will stop selling smartphones that are part of T-Mobile's post-paid lineup; those phones are available now in 683 locations and the 1700 locations that offer T-Mobile's pre-paid smartphone lineup will continue to sell those phones and Sprint will replace T-Mobile in those other locations...

That may help explain why Optimus L9 is going for 20% discount when purchase with $50 top-up card. The phone retails for $200 so that would be a $40 savings. Since you need to buy air time, the $50 is just like an advance payment.

If I do get the phone, which I doubt, it would be. On the Walmart $30 a month, 100 minutes and 5GB of 4G daa.

T-Mobile is done...I told u people... sprint next

Sprint sells better than T-Mobile therefore its only logical that they so this.

I am a Target Mobile Manager and I have been asking for this since I took over my store. Honestly, I do sell a lot of T-Mo, but over half of the guests that I deal with currently have Sprint and want to stay with Sprint, obviously because of the unlimited data and we have LTE 4g live in our location. This will be an awesome switch for me!

Glad to hear it! I thought it was odd with the Target-Radioshack partnership they had, that they didn't sell Sprint and sold T-Mobile instead. Don't get me wrong I do like things about T-Mobile but you've got to follow the money trail!

The Target-RadioShack partnership ends April 8th. Market Source/Bright Star will instead be taking over where RadioShack failed to produce in its business partnership with Target. Hopefully this will be a sign for a bright future with Target Mobile

Hopefully for Target and RadioShack both.

I am a target mobile sales manager and my store doesnt carry tmobile, mine carries sprint, att, and verizon and Im glad because Sprint gives us amazing commission. By the way shop at Target Mobile :)

people don't know, but the reason t-mobile is out is because there's no profit margin for the parties involved in the sale. Radioshack is bleeding money out of the Target Mobile program, and April 7th is the last day for them to run it. Most of the associates working there have either jumped ship (like I did), been fired unceremoniously just to save Radioshack a few bucks in unemployment(like a few of my coworkers did), or moved over to the new company (Marketsource) and stayed in their position. Marketsource wants nothing to do with losing money though, so cutting T-Mobile and bringing in Sprint is smart (and what Radioshack said they were going to do/should have done since the day the program launched in 2009).

I love that I learn important information about my job from Phonearena before I hear about it from the job itself! But in my opinion it all depends on the area. Where I'm at, Sprint has horrible service and T-Mobile is actually quite good. So this move will end up hurting my paycheck rather than help it.

13. jcarrigan posted on 08 Mar 2013, 17:32 1

In my area the only thing that Works is Verizon but I still sale quite a bit of Sprint due to its Unlimited data. It wont hurt your paycheck man, Sprint pays better to its authorized retailers then anybody else.

I get that, but with TMO only offering value plans starting this month I suspect your TMO sales would become nearly non existent. The value plan is a freaking joke and people HATE it, mainly because TMO conveniently leaves out the part about paying full price for their phones. I am a TGT Mobile mgr too, and I easily turn away 2-5 people a week because they are on the VP and we cannot work with those. They also leave pissed the f*ck off because no one told them about no longer getting subsidised upgrades.

i also was one of those guys that got fired from target mobile in illinois.... sucks man

14. jcarrigan posted on 08 Mar 2013, 17:33

Everyday I come into work and find out a new manager was fired. My district has 24 stores and I can barely keep track of who works in my district anymore, its kinda depressing seeing hard working amazing sales people thrown aside.

17. Droiddoes posted on 08 Mar 2013, 18:19 2

Let's be fair: those managers/associates who were let go were due to

- failing or not going to the drug test
- fraud issues
- shrink issues
- not following company guidlines

I have not heard of a single person straight up being fired for no good reason. Cut the bull, please.

20. ardent1 posted on 09 Mar 2013, 19:50

The correct business term is known as "shrinkage".

22. jcarrigan posted on 10 Mar 2013, 15:59 1

well who knows if they were honest with me or not about why there were let go, all i know is im still employed and i may not have to agree with everything the old company is doing but im happy with what the new company wil be doing :)

8. Manevolence posted on 08 Mar 2013, 14:36 4

This was going to happen sooner or later anyway. With T-Mobile transitioning to only provide their Value plans, third party vendors like Target Mobile won't be able to carry T-Mobile anymore.

18. Droiddoes posted on 08 Mar 2013, 18:21

Nor would they want to. The value plan is a joke, TMO is a joke, and I would rather saw off my own toe than have to deal with TMO's incompetent reps for another year. Pretty sad when more often than not I end up telling them how to do theuir jobs and say "you are wrong, I know for a fact you CAN do this as I've had it done in the past"

23. remy112 posted on 12 Mar 2013, 00:42

That's not true only T-Mobile corporate stores and Costco will be able to provide the Value Plan. Big box retailers will still carry the classic plans which are due to change this month.

21. JeffPom posted on 10 Mar 2013, 14:57

Target Red Card - not just Credit Card. They also offer a debit option that comes straight out of your checking card. And you don't even need to use the Red Card. (Credit or debit.) You can just show it to the mobile rep.

Target mobile is a joke. They are very unorganized. I use to work for the best district here in ny and thank god I left to Verizon. The pay there sucks I was getting paid more than managers can you believe that . Tmobile value plans are not to bad actually if you think about it with a classic plan your paying your phone twice thru the life of the contract at least after 20 months your bill goes down or you can upgrade when ever you want . One more thing good look target mobile employees getting paid by your new commission structure 1dollar for each point 6 points for each postpaid that's on 6 dollars a post lol what a joke
