No more PenTile? Samsung Galaxy Note II specs review

0. phoneArena 29 Aug 2012, 15:47 posted on

The phone with the largest screen out there just got an even larger panel in its successor, but the new Note II is actually slimmer and more compact than the original. Samsung has elongated the phone compared to the first Note, but made it narrower, so it is easier to hold. There is a very slim bezel surrounding the screen, too, allowing for the larger display in a more compact body...

Dont buy Samsung. Their phones depreciate in value too quickly, and a lot has to do with the cheap build quality.

You should've called Samsung, they have a 1yr manufacturer warranty. They won't give you a refurb either. They fix your actual phone (the port, not the crack) and send it back to you. I had a really bad experience with Samsung fixing my og GS1 Captivate. They sent it back with more software issues then when I sent it to them to be fixed. Yours is a port so it's pretty straight forward. It's better to have them fix it for free then not have a phone till you cancel.

better pay that nice big applecare fee and deductible each time it falls on the carpet :)

The hairline crack was damaged you caused therefor you need to own up and either pay your insurance for a new device or buy outright.

SO your argument was inappropriate.

I'm not sure this quite fills the same niche as the original Note, as it has a taller (by ~7mm) but narrower (by ~3mm) screen. One of the distinctive features of the original Note was its much 'squarer', by phone standards, screen.

4mm taller, not 7mm. Learning maths again, man!

I was talking about the screen, not the phone. Learn to read again, man :)

Why the heck Samsung downgrade the screen of the note2 ? The note one have 1280 x 800 screen but note 2 downgraded to 1280 x 720 ? But i guess people dont care because if it has a Samsung logo on it people will still buy it

It will actually be clearer as it has the full RGB matrix as opposed to RGBG of the original note

I like how the phone is narrower due to the new aspect ratio. This would make it a bit more managable to hold and use and will look less odd when taking calls. I'm definitely gonna check this out if it comes to Verizon.

I'm confused... Is the screen HD Super AMOLED PLUS or just HD Super AMOLED? And if so, how is it the latter without PenTile? Someone please clarify :-/

I dont know how you can make something narrower than its predecessor, but yet its got a bigger screen?

The aspect ratio went from being 16:10 (note 1) to the (now) more common 16:9 which makes the display a bit taller and narrower.

Samsung Galaxy Note II is using AMOLED pattern similar to Ingis Innovations' patented HR pixel structure :
