No more Lumia? Leaked slide hints that Microsoft plans to replace the Nokia branding soon
0. phoneArena 12 Jun 2014, 05:39 posted on
We've been wondering what will happen with the Nokia Lumia brand of smartphones after Microsoft acquired the division to bolster a Windows Phone portfolio of its own, and not much has been heard on that front since the acquisition was made official. The deal terms say that Microsoft can use the Nokia brand on handsets 18 months for Lumia smartphones, with the right expiring on December 31, 2015, and 10 years for mobile phones in general...

I got three Lumia smartphones because they have Nokia logo, then let's see how Microsoft Windows Phone sales will be after Nokia ?!
No more Windows Phone

I wondered why Microsoft is continuing with the Nokia X and now Nokia X2 Android phones. They are just trying to embrace any sales they can get.

Microsoft are mainly a services company, not a device manufacturer, so it makes perfect sense for them to push their services on other platforms and the Nokia X series are an excellent way of doing that in emerging markets.

It the same people making the phones that made Nokia phones, however I think it's a mistake not to keep the Nokia name.

Nokia is no longer Nokia.
Eflop and board members killed it.
They are all dead, that means Nokia is dead.
Bring back those.

So I guess because I change my clothing everyday that means I am no longer myself, that is your logic. Its the same employees only thing that has changed is the name, same quality devices. Sorry dude but you were paid to destroy WP credibility or so it seems either that or you're simply and idiot.

hahah liveit up you again..
how many times do i have to say this..
Majority of employees and engineers those who created Nokia phones and pureview tech have left Nokia in these past 3 years..
their lumia design head , pureview camera guru , pureview second head have already departed
many have left after the acquistion and many more will leave
what you are getting now is a pure Surface phone which has nothing do with nokia now and without nokia MS is going to fail hard .. even you know that

It's not all the same people or the same company.
Microsoft is not Nokia.
24. KenAdams (Posts: 55; Member since: 17 Feb 2014)
What difference does it actually make if there's no Nokia branding? Its still made by the same people who used to make Lumias when they were at Nokia. Only difference will be that they will be under MSFT. Besides, Microsoft are perfectly capable of making quality products (eg. Xbox, Surface tablets), and they're not a Chinese company or anything.
51. dexter_jdr (Posts: 1163; Member since: 28 Jun 2012)
but not with the eyes of other people. most people to be exact.
that nokia branding is a must. a symbol. a trademark. it is engraved in their, our hearts.
76. sniper1087 (Posts: 475; Member since: 31 Dec 2011)
I have to disagree I own a Lumia device, but I do not care only in branding. the people that do usually are using apple devices, I am surprise to see this with WP as well, Microsoft makes good quality products and I believe as long as they have an overall good package and good advertisement, they could sell well.
90. dexter_jdr (Posts: 1163; Member since: 28 Jun 2012)
but renaming the phone's brand will affect its market sales. only well known brands sell higher than new branded phones.
-except for the low end segment. because they are cheap. but high ends, they want well known popular brands.
78. nokia12 (Posts: 452; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
wake up to the reality bro..!!
the people who made windows phone and pureview camera have left nokia , some left during the three years , some left after acquisition
Many will leave when they are unable to adjust to Microsoft culture
Management was already effected with MS style during these 3 years..
So now you will be getting a surface Mobile phone and Not a Nokia

You do know it's just a name. The phones are still being made by the same people.
3. ihavenoname (Posts: 1643; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
Will be interesting to see what name they'll use.
5. Anshulonweb (Posts: 430; Member since: 07 Feb 2014)

According to a research Windows Phone users choose their phones because of the OS.
101. corporateJP (Posts: 2431; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
Who's research? Your own?
I only have WP because of Nokia, so do the other few people that have WP that I know.
You jockriders are hilarious. I'd name-drop the six of you on PA, but my user name isn't "liveitupunderarock".
111. KenAdams (Posts: 55; Member since: 17 Feb 2014)
Why don't you purchase a Nokia X handset, since you clearly don't like WP and only have it 'cause of the Nokia branding. If you purchase a Nokia X phone, you'll get the best of both worlds, Android & Nokia "branding".
122. Jillsandwich (Posts: 62; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
People don't exactly line up and buy Windows Phone for the traditional selling points like apps, "customization" or even popularity. Go to any cell phone store and see if the people there really push to sell them, the way they do for iPhone/Lagdroid. People buy the phone because the OS is what appeals to them. This is not news.
I don't care what the brand is. If I get the same great hardware, the Nokia apps, a pure view camera and the OS, I'm fine. I like the Lumia name, but it's just a name. As long as I don't get a craptastic OS like Android or a current IOS, I'm fine.
123. Jillsandwich (Posts: 62; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
I've noticed that you post quite often here, most often just bashing OS that you don't like. If you don't like WP, why do you bother coming into a WP-centric thread? Just to troll? Just to validate your Android purchase? Want to make sure that you want other people to know how happy you are with your device and how they should get it, too? I mean, seriously, I really am curious. I know PA isn't exactly the fountain of maturity when it comes to devices discussion, but you seem especially hostile towards WP. Are you threatened that WP isn't the crap OS that you want it to be? Don't like that people are happy with their WP?
It's really simple, if you don't like WP, just stay the hell out of a WP thread. Why come here and piss on the people here?
FYI, WP isn't going anywhere. I know you want it to, but, no, it isn't.

If Microsoft will totally replace the world wide known NOKIA Branding, I would just say "Oh My God This is the worst move ever!". People only buy windows phone because of the NOKIA Brand not the OS because they are not even Techie like most of us.
13. XperiaFanZone (Posts: 1767; Member since: 21 Sep 2012)
Of course pEople buy Windows Phone becAuse of Nokia, they're the ones providing the OS! Common sense!
102. corporateJP (Posts: 2431; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
MS is equivalent to an ugly prom date, Nokia only took her so they could go.
MS is gambling on their popularity, but they are oblivious to how the mass-public feels about them. There's a reason why their market share is little more than Blackberry scraps.
I wish them luck once that "Nokia" branding is gone, but it will be their undoing. I won't feel bad for them considering how their Trojan Horse operation went down.
113. NokiaFTW (Posts: 2058; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
And how does the market actually feel about MS and their brand? Now the place from where you are (the US I guess), MS might not have a lot of brand recognition as say Apple or even Samsung. But people still buy Xbox (MS product) a lot more than the PlayStation (Sony product). MS are a respected company. Their desktop OS runs on more than 90% of computers worldwide. Now the place where I live (India), MS is a very well respected brand/company. This is the same in most of South America, Europe and Asia. People WILL buy a MS branded phone, since they know its NOT a Chinese company, and is an American MNC. Also, their products, the Surface and Xbox, are quality and performance combined into beautiful hardware. I think you are underestimating the brand value or recognition of Microsoft.
And coming to that "Trojan Horse" BS you're saying, I don't think that you have any proof that Elop was a trojan sent by MS, or any of the other BS in your head. There is no base your "Trojan" crap. So its better you don't use such stupid theories on a tech site.
128. nokia12 (Posts: 452; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
haaha what brand value does microsoft has in India ?
India is a playstation centric country .. its a fact .. Xbox also sells very good but its nowhere compared to Playstation brand in India.. Ms is only famous in computer windows thats it.. MS has a huge brand in USA though.. but not in india
are you really from India ? Do you even know what Nokia Brand is ?
its only in the last 3 years that samsung and apple have risen otherwise in India Mobile phone used to mean a NOKIA phone ..
Nokia has always been consistent in winning the best brand awards by times of india etc.. you might be too young to know about Nokia ..
regarding Proof of Ms trojan elop horse .. i can show you facts after facts
there will be only 2 conclusions that comes out of it
1) either he is the trojan horse
2) he is the dumbest , worst CEO in the history of companies..
Given his past as a Person who is experienced in Destruction of companies
like Boston Chicken
anybody with half a mind with pick consclusion no 1..

i am not comparing Microsoft vs chinese crap like micromax
i am comparing Nokia vs microsoft..
without nokia if microsoft can even manage 30-40 % of sales what Nokia achieved in India it will be a miracle..
Whatever little Success windows phone had is because of Nokia Brand .. Because People Trust Nokia Blindly
131. NokiaFTW (Posts: 2058; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
Micromax is an a Indian company, not Chinese. And you were teaching me stuff about India...
130. NokiaFTW (Posts: 2058; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
I know what brand recognition Nokia and MS have in India. Don't teach me anything about my country. Maybe if you remove your head from GOOgle, you might see what else is there in the market.
132. nokia12 (Posts: 452; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
Ohh then atleast teach yourself that what Micromax is selling is just Rebranded Chinese Crap...
are you retarded ? how does GOOGLE came in the discussion ? i never even talked about it...
maybe you are butt hurt yourself , that Microsoft is killing Nokia Brand.. without Nokia Brand , everybody knows that Microsoft is nothing .. even your mates at WP central agree with that..
137. NokiaFTW (Posts: 2058; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
Micromax has its own factory where they MAKE phones in Haryana (North Indian state). Go away, illiterate troll!
139. nokia12 (Posts: 452; Member since: 19 Nov 2013)
having a factory doesn't mean they are manufacturing phones
its only now in the past 2-3 months that they have started manufacturing.. What micromax is today, is because of that chinese Crap.. if you are in india and you didn't knew that till now all phones sold were chinese branded then i can understand where all this hates comes from . ignorance is a bliss.. !!
looks like i am talking to a bot here and wasting my time.. good luck Bot , get a brain script for yourself hahaha !!

XBOX division cost M'soft 3 billion dollars in little over 10 years. How about the 10 billion dollars they just spent on new servers which XB1 games were supposedly gonna get free processing power from. Doubt XB1 will profit 10 billion dollars to make up those losses (though said servers are there for other purposes as well)
My question is, what company in the world could afford to by a gaming division that's bleeding such extreme sums of money?? Anyone would go broke buying the XBOX brand. Very high overhead company. And I doubt XB1 will make a dollars net profit anytime soon
135. Arte-8800 (banned) (Posts: 4562; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
Elop went in Nokia just to break its backbone and make the company depend on MSFT. Then MSFT just absorbs it just like now. Cut throat business!!
141. meanestgenius (Posts: 6387; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Uh, I think you're wrong about the PlayStation vs Xbox stats you put up. With the latest iteration of each respective gaming console, Sony's PS4 has outsold MS's Xbox One. PS4 sold over 7 million and Xbox One sold over 5 million.
Latest stats are in the above link.

Complete retards on this website. The NOKIA brand is kept!
