No Windows Phone 7.8 for T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 710
0. phoneArena posted on 06 Feb 2013, 01:59
A statement from T-Mobile has shocked, stunned and saddened those Nokia Lumia 710 users as the phone will not be getting updated to Windows Phone 7.8 and even though the update only added a few new features, many were happy just to grab on to the small changes on their handset including the resizeable Live Tiles...

Great job tmo . First you don't allow Nokia astound to receive update for symbian 3 to symbina belle .
Now you don't allow lumia 710 to get updated to wp7.8 .
I salute you

T-Mobile always cripples their Nokia devices in some way by blocking updates or removing parts of the firmware!!!! Even with the 5230 Nuron, T-Mobile decided to remove the customizable home screen! Yes, NO home screen widgets for the Nuron while other regions had te 5230 with a vastly superior user interface with music widgets, large scrollable contact widgets and other advanced features. T-mobile went out of their way to make the Nuron appear to be a dumb phone. The Nuron didn't even have kinetic scrolling while the regular 5230 did.
As the other poster said, same trend continued with the Astound while the C7 moved on to much greater and better UIs, operating systems and experiences, Tmobile told users to suck it.
Now the 710 too....makes me wonder about how they will treat the 810....
Is there someone with an "I hate Nokia" diploma on their office wall at T-Mo corporate making the dumb decisions?

AT&T did the same thing with the Nokia N75... they removed S60's traditional Active Standby feature, and replaced it with this abomination called "TabTop", which most Symbian fans truly hated with a passion. It did just that... it turned a perfectly useful and great Symbian phone into a feature-phone look-alike with some unusual music and camera skills. When you're willing to throw the Vanilla ROM on it just to get rid of "TabTop", I think that's sayin' something...
My friend who got rid of his Lumia 710 and got an iPhone instead, last year, would probably be happy to know that he made the 'right choice'... he would have hated what T-Mo is doing by denying WP7.8 to that device.

Ok, so this is all the wp7 phones not getting the update.

This is a totaly different scenerio. Usually the phones not getting an android update are due to manufacturer not building an upgrade for the device. Nokia has gone out and build an update for the device only to be stopped by the carrier. Totally different than not getting an android update.

T-mo is starting to piss me off with their lack of support for their phones. That said, if I can convert my Dell Venue Pro to 7.8, then i am sure the guys at XDA-Developers have the CAB files to update it.

XDA 9 times out of 10 will have a solution to your phone(and other) woes

Yep.. they did for the Dell Venue Pro.. and the 710 is similar enough to the other early Nokia sets I am sure the Force CAB method will work on them too :)

I updated my 710 Monday night. I used a tool called seveneighter.
I actually got the phone new on Saturday. When I heard it would not be updated, I was prepared to return it. Then I found this easy solution. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the info, I thought my 710 was out of luck. Seven-Eighter updated it perfectly!

I don't understand why T-mo is doing this to a phone they are currently selling.. not supporting the Dell Venue Pro.. get that one (Begrudgingly) but the 710..? The HTC Radar got 7.8 I believe, but not the Nokia..? I can not understand why..
