Nexus Prime might be called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, sporting a 4.65" HD screen and metal chassis
0. phoneArena 08 Sep 2011, 06:04 posted on
An unconfirmed industry source has tipped the name to be Samsung Galaxy Nexus, with a curved 4.65" HD Super AMOLED display, and a thin metal shell, to be launched in October as the Android ICS poster child...

4.65" Super Amoled HD to destroy the 3.7 inches loser retina display.
12MP Camera to crush the iPhone 5 camera.
ICS to destroy iOS 5.
No Buttons to destroy the iphone's new home button.
1.5Ghz QuadCore Exynos for the win!!!
iPhone 5's mind = BLOWN!!!!

i want the phone that your thinking of.. what ever that is.. lol that sounds awesome
unfortunately the rumors so far have the nexus prime as a 5mpx camera and an OMAP 44(60?) processor.
though i sincerely wish your specs come true!! lol

I don't find the fact that it will be 5MP unfortunate at all. In fact, it will be a great thing. 5MP on a sensor the same size as the 8MP cameras will do wonders for the image quality.
And a great showing of a manufacturer not buying into the more MP = better ignorance that dominates the masses.
57. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
if they put a real camera quality sensor on that 5mpx im all for it.. if its another generic pinhole style cell camera at 5mpx, imma be bummed.

They wanna keep the phone slick and sexy. It already has a screen that pushes the limits of a smartphone. A good sensor would make it too think for their tastes. The camera will be a cute, fancy dot at back of the slab.

Now only if we can get that phone by November in the U.S.

wait wait wait wait..
santa isnt real!?!?!?!

Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is for this phone to come to Verizon.
12. nyamo (Posts: 273; Member since: 19 Mar 2011)
unlocked would be a much better option.... but i can't blame you for wanting big red to have their own special version
14. Knicknevin (Posts: 130; Member since: 18 Mar 2011)
My primary concern is that V has the nasty habit of passing on some of the best phones.
3. Mobile-X-Pert (Posts: 565; Member since: 20 Dec 2010)
OMG ''4.6'' that's huge, why can't they just make it ''4''??? That's the perfect size for a screen.
5. phantomash (Posts: 20; Member since: 27 Aug 2011)
No. I rather like the large screen, and '4.65inch ' just sounds awesome saying it (instead of the usual 4.5, 4.3, or worst yet, 4), and it will be jaw dropping coupled with that res.
9. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3394; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Couldn't have said it any better. Thumbs up for you!
47. okashira (unregistered)
4.65 FTW. With small enough bezels, 16:9 aspect and screen taking up where the 4 buttons would be, it will be no bigger then a 4.3" device.
70. Schmao (Posts: 302; Member since: 05 Jul 2009)
Thumbs up! People like us who browse these sites want big sexy high tech phones! Who cares if the average joe can't handle the size!
13. ronthegent (unregistered)
i like bigger screens, and dont forget this devices will be the first device with ics, so it wont have the four hard buttons most androids have
36. bighandssmallpockets (unregistered)
All I want is a top of the line android with 4" screen. Unfortunately I feel like I will always have to settle for a middle of the road phone just to get the size I want. I have plenty of money to pay for high end but will NEVER wear my phone!!!
Have the eris now and may have to suck it up and buy iPhone 5 if there is no android to beat it at that size :-(
48. okashira (unregistered)
Maybe you should stop wearing those skin tight hipster jeans, girlie.
I gots room to spare pocketing my EVO 4G.
59. twenti7 (Posts: 152; Member since: 09 Jul 2011)
It has nothing to do with the jeans. I wear slim fit jeans and can fit my OG EVO with the superfat 3500mAh battery in my pockets just fine.
63. bighandssmallpockets (unregistered)
4.8x2.6 I could do that. Verizon only goes for the giant phones.
and don't make fun of my jeans and i won't make fun of your boxers sticking out of your sagging baggie jeans and your silly sideways hat with the flat brim. ;-)
62. ervman1 (unregistered)
do you not realize that although the screen is larger there will be on screen back and home buttons on ics? Therefore the device might not be much larger than the nexus s but the screen will take up more...
6. PeterIfromsweden (Posts: 1230; Member since: 03 Aug 2011)
This is just rumors. honestly i believe this will not be called a galaxy phone, and it will likely not have a metal chassis. Samsung has only had metal bodies for the wave phones and never for android.
7. protozeloz (Posts: 5187; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
I would like the Metal body on the Prime and the name is kinda cool I'm liking Samsung's work so far and I think they deserve this nexus, they probably have become the fastest growing android manufacturer
30. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Sammy is definately the largest growing android maker.
We all knew the prime was code name for the real phone, but darn it.. i really liked calling it the prime as well.. lol. Maybe it will be the Nexus Ice, short for ICS of course. I dont see "galaxy nexus" as a good name for it.
peter, never is never an option. :)
43. GJanee (Posts: 191; Member since: 29 Jun 2011)
only for bada? how about the symbian series (like U800-900 or of the L series i guess), and the windows phone 7 series?
53. PeterIfromsweden (Posts: 1230; Member since: 03 Aug 2011)
What i meant was, that Samsung has not had any Adndroid phones with metal body.
77. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
well, there is always the first time.
i dunno. i prefer the light weight plastic. i dont know why it matters anways if u get a case like most people do. give me the weight loss and thinness so when i slap that thick case on it, its not a brick.. lol
16. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
Prime was made because at first they believed it would be made by LG, resulting in LG Optimus Prime if ever. Just fan made obviously.
74. UltraElectroMagneticPOP (Posts: 49; Member since: 30 Aug 2011)
I see what you did there...
8. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3394; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Sexy, sexy, SEXY! iPhone 5 WHAT? Android is taking phones to a new level. 4.6" HD Super AMOLED, & a sexy metal design. Wow Apple's days of innovation are over! Samsung is the best phone maker right now. If this comes out for Sprint, I am there. I love my HTC Evo 3D but I will make a jump to this in a heartbeat!
Wow Samsung Galaxy Nexus!
11. ilia1986 (unregistered)
I still think that the Note is superior.. but maybe not everyone can take such a huge size, eh? ;-)
20. phantomash (Posts: 20; Member since: 27 Aug 2011)
if you feel that Note is superior, fine. That just means you don't get what a Nexus phone means. :D
31. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
specwise, the Note IS superior.. but its for a different type of person.
If the Note came with ICS out of the box, that would be awesome.
23. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3394; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
I love the Samsung Galaxy Note. The 5.3" is so sexy, it's just that it has TouchWiz. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be pure Google & I would rather that then TouchWiz. Now if the Samsung Galaxy Note didn't have TouchWiz I would be all over that instead of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I would rather have a bigger screen always. Both indeed are SICK though. I think Samsung makes the best phones in the world. HTC is second. I can honestly say that, even though I am a HTC fan who owns a HTC Evo 3D. Facts are facts! lol
24. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Oh I know what a Nexus phone means. But I also think that when custom roms will arrive on the Note - the issue will become a moot point, as everyone will get to have the OS they like on it. :D
HTC would be first on my list if not the Note's screen size.. and if not the fact that HTC does not have SuperAmoled screens.
33. phantomash (Posts: 20; Member since: 27 Aug 2011)
well, I think everyone knows what a Nexus phone means, if what you're saying is timely update. But what I should've said is the charm of a Nexus phone, with it being a "Google phone".
34. ayephoner (Posts: 832; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
yeah, apple has never had a metal phone. this is a truly amazing innovation that samsung has come up with.
both sides of this sissy fight need to calm down. there are great droid phones on the horizon and plenty of people are excited to find out what apple has in store. if you truly think you've figured out which OS or which piece of hardware is superior, you're completely in the wrong.
35. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Hey ayephoner. It looks to me like you've jailbroken your iPhone. I did so as well. Do you know what I didn't find in Cydia - and why I was so disappointed @ WWDC 2011? Because of the fact that Apple did not introduce widgets. Sure, there are some widgets in Cydia, but that's nothing compared to what Android market has.
So yeah - as a person who has a Jailbroken iPhone 4 - and who has never had an Android device - I say - Android is better.
37. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
id have to say your completely wrong with that last statement, as which is "superior" as far as OS is completely subjective to the user. There will never be a 100% consesus. As far as hardware, android phones are vastly superior.
17. MajorMistake (unregistered)
PleaseOhPleaseOhPleaseOhPleaseOh let this come true (and to Verizon and sooner than later)
18. stevenses (unregistered)
I don't understand why Android phones keep getting bigger and bigger....in my opinion 4.65" would be way too huge. I hope this isn't true. Or at least I hope they offer one with something between 4" and 4.3". You know, for those of us that don't have Sasquatch hands
21. Mooooo (Posts: 212; Member since: 27 Aug 2011)
* Note to self
1. Find box of Nexus S
2. Sell Nexus S
3. Buy Galaxy Nexus/Prime
4. Watch iphony's weep

Dam sammy going to the next level..iphone what????
25. K1N9J (Posts: 17; Member since: 26 Jul 2011)
these screen sizes are getting kind of stupid. 4.3 is the all around most balanced and best screen size in my opinion. soon phones are going to be the same size if not bigger than tablets smh.
27. PimpStrong (Posts: 310; Member since: 25 Jul 2011)
It's completely different when your phone will not have buttons. durr.
49. okashira (unregistered)
I know it must be hard to accept, but the phone will be the same size as a 4.3" device. The larger screen comes from not wasting space on the 4 buttons.
26. PimpStrong (Posts: 310; Member since: 25 Jul 2011)
This... Is... AWSOME!
All I thought about for the last few months was Hercules, Hercules, Hercules like it was the phone of phones.
No, this Nexus will be the phone of phones and whats best is that I will no longer have to wonder about updates unlike my stuck-on-froyo Vibrant.

Samsung is working very hard in the production lines while rotten Apple is working very hard in the court rooms.
Crazy rotten Apple go to hell.
38. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Samsung is doing their darndest to court customers. Apple is doing its darndest to take people to court. lol
39. Dj21o (Posts: 437; Member since: 19 May 2011)
Why is everyone saying every phone will "kill the iPhone"? If the phone meets your expectations, say so. Don't go bashing on someone else's credit. Which, even then, Apple makes out pretty good. They don't need a bigger display with the PPI they have, hacking for battery life, force closes, and you can actually have push notifications. That's 4 qualities from my standards that Android doesn't even compete with.
52. Synack (Posts: 623; Member since: 05 Jul 2011)
I'm sorry who doesn't have push notifications? My 2010 Android has push email, Facebook, text, everything. And the reason we have to "hack" for battery life is that we mod our higher specced much faster phones to be EVEN faster and the consequence of flashing software to do that is an un-calibrated battery, that has to be re-calibrated. I agree with you on the force closes but it's tough to make an app work on over 100 different Android devices. All with different screens, processors, everything... All iOS developers have to make apps for is about a handful of devices, with the vast majority of them being the iPhone.
55. Dj21o (Posts: 437; Member since: 19 May 2011)
I agree, and I know we have notifications, but our stuff is constantly syncing to our devices. With the iPhone, you can pick the intervals you want everything to sync. And its not just our processor speed, random apps enter memory for no reason at all.it is by far the worst task management I have seen on a phone. That's mix all of that with some milk and that is a s**tty bowl of cereal lmao.
