Nexus 5 to be more compact, skip the 1080p screen and focus on camera instead?

The Nexus 5, the supposed name for the next-generation Nexus smartphone by Google, might be a device totally different than the rest of the high-end Androids…

Actually it is not. There is no notable difference in screen drainage between the HTC One X and the One, and PA did not mention the SIV screen eating away battery too quickly.

Furthermore, the IPS of the 720p Nexus 4 seems to be hungrier than the SLCD of the One or the TFT of the Xperia Z both at 1080p, and the Oppo Find 5 scores roughly the same screen on time with FHD.

Of course 720p RGB is perfectly sufficient for a 4,5" screen, but I'm sure for the Nexus FIVE ppl. would want a 5" display, and why not? The SD600 is powerful enough to support it and I doubt FHD screen manufacturing in Q3 2013 is more expensive than 720p was a year before.

but what's the point to have Full HD screen on ~5" display when you wont notice any difference comparing with 720p? Only loosing more power just for having same effect?
What next? Ultra HD screen? marketing ftw?

if you have 1080p videos, why would you want to watch it on a 720p screen??

I would choose a 4.5 inch 720p device with a good camera, Snapdragon 600, 2800mAh over a 5 inch 1080p device with Snapdragon 600...ANYDAY, ANYTIME!!

Yeah I agree, but they should've put Snapdragon 800 in it, not 600. I'm also excited about the 9MP CCD camera. But this is just a rumor, may be real, may be fake, who knows?

They just might go the Ultrapixel way.. Then that would be awesome if it's an 8MP one.

Ultrapixel? I hope not, because it will delay like the HTC One.

Depends when they are planning to release it. A summer release will make the Nexus 5 relevant, but a fall-winter release? Snapdragon 800 makes more sense in that case.

nice , 4.5 with on screen buttons that mean only 4.3 is usable , the compactness is always a plus but hope its 4.7 screen.and please a 32GB version . if you want to sell it like hot cakes.

Any yet to be announced device should include at least 8 cores and at least 16MP cameras, else it would just be just not competitive by the time it comes out.

"Make the device good, regardless of specs" seems to be a pretty competitive strategy for our favorite fruit company.

Leave the 8-core and 16MP garbage to the cave trolls arguing over tech-peen.

Sound right because If you need bigger screen use a phablet
I will go for better truly HDR camera instead of 1080 screen resolution
What do you need such as high end screen for? If the phone can't take clear pictures or videos

Clearly fake, the 'tipster' coming with this rumour obviously doesn't like big screen 1080p phones (like the majority on here) and thinks that the S800 is too powerful for a phone and destined only for a tablet, eg: small minded thinker appropriating specs that suit him and others with the same mindset. Can see this from a mile off, unless Google or the Android team give you leaked info fast forward 6-8 months from now, it's pretty much BS.
