Next iPhone is believed to pack an 8-megapixel camera after Sony CEO's slip
0. phoneArena 03 Apr 2011, 11:43 posted on
The always charismatic Sir Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony, pretty much slipped out a few words about the camera specs of the new iPhone after speaking to Walt Mossberg in an interview. Specifically, Stringer...

Maybe Sony should start worrying about making their phones the best on the market, instead of giving all their good stuff to Apple. I'm still waiting for a camera from them that competes with my N8.

Dude you must be an idiot or something for writing something so wrong. The LG Optimus 2X has a 8 MP camera and the phone & is already out over seas. You Apple Fan Boys are so dumb, how can you post something online for everyone to see if you are DEAD wrong? Dude you are a joke lol. Everything new on an Apple has now been out on Android for way too long. Kid get your facts right before you even type. How embarrassing!! lol

The Evo and Droid X also have 8 megapixel cameras. And I might sound like a fanboy saying this, but I'm pretty confident that Apple's 8 megapixel camera will be much better than any 8 megapixel camera considering how well the current 5 megapixel camera performs against the current 8 megapixel cameras.

I have to disagree, My Tbolt and my Incredible took AMAZING photo's ones I would put against a cannon or nikon quick shooter. iPhones camera has to be held SO still to even get close, not to mention HDR noise you all think is so great.
Im getting SO tired of the mixed emotion answers on iPhones camera i.e "this time its going to be better," "MPixels dont have anything to do with it" "HDR photos look the best, 5mp out bests any camera right now" ....but the most tiring statement you Apple jokers make is the infamous "the NEXT ONE will be the best" even though your current claims is that IT IS the best just to justify your purchase of a quickly outdated product...OmniVision!?!?? over Samsung? Over schneider kreuznach lenses? give me a break...

thats sounds pretty cool, but would be really awesome if the iphone 5 had more than 64gb of memory, a fm radio since we can not stream all we want from pandora or slacker radio.
what about a sprint iphone, that way i could use my slingbox all i want, whiteout worrying about going over the 4gb than att give you. why not verizon to expensive to many taxes and fees.
7. BobbyTaba (Posts: 316; Member since: 11 Aug 2010)
are u retarded verizon and att are the same prices. I payed 220 at ATT for a 1400 min family plan and family texting and one data plan + 5 dollar insurance. Now I have Verizon and have the same 1400 min except 2 more data plans and 2 insurances that cost 14 total. Im paying 45 dollars more. Att taxed me too much for the past 5 years I was with them. The difference should be 69 dollars but att got 24 dollars extra in "taxes" each month

Wait what. . . Sony is making the camera for Apple?!?!?
I thought Apple made all their own hardware so they could ensure tight integration between hardware and software?!?!?!?!
You mean to say that Apple doesn't make it's own hardware?!?!?!!?
5. messiah (Posts: 433; Member since: 19 Feb 2010)
apple doesnt make any of their hardware. apple are programmers, not engineers.
27. d_great1 (unregistered)
Definitely are GREAT engineers, but not manufacturers, faxconn, samsung, lg and others do the cooking for them...
6. JeffdaBeat (unregistered)
Apple designs all of their products, but it doesn't mean the pieces aren't manufactured by other companies. I believe HTC created the Palm Treo 650... Kind of like you'd have designer create something for you and then you have someone else build it.

Yeah I don't know why people are so surprised. Isn't that how it works?

Parts supplies are farmed out, and Foxcon assembles and packages everything ready for distribution and sale
15. xvengence42 (unregistered)
No apple does not make all their hardware. apples A4 and A5 chip were made by samsung...

I really hope Apple revamps the look of iOS soon.. 4 years of the same looking interface is getting mighty boring. Its getting harder and harder to justify to my funds manager that its worth upgrading when it always looks the same :-p
I also hope the iPhone 5 has a larger screen of at least 4". My eyes get tired of squinting looking at a 3.5" after a short while..

I'm not naive enough to say that specs are all that matter, and apple has proved this with stellar design- form over function. However, I think consumers are getting tired of apple's strategy with minuscule updates in each generation of product. I think apple needs to surpass some of the competition and give us more than we expect on the next iphone ie 10 mp or more on the cam, more than just a 1 ghz dual core processor, larger screen and resolution, etc...
Will this happen? probably not. Apple is clearly top dog right now, and will be for awhile- but I think their comfort level and hubris will be their downfall in the long run as the competition continues to evolve
18. E.N. (Posts: 2224; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
Why is it that Apple needs to do flips and backflips and other companies don't. Apple has to go way beyond the competition and make everyone piss their pants, but other manufacturers can give just a 1ghz dual core processor, larger screen, qHD screen resolution and everyone will be happy and cheering. That's one thing I don't get. When Apple gives small updates, everyone complains. But when a phone like the Droid Bionic which doesn't do that much or even a phone like the Thunderbolt comes out, which does nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, nobody says a word. It's actually quite annoying.
19. beatlesfan (Posts: 150; Member since: 03 Mar 2011)
Last time I checked being the first phone on LTE is groundbreaking. Not to mention the thunderbolt is the first phone with HTC Sense 2.0 (which isn't groundbreaking in and of itself, but is a great UI). What isn't groundbreaking or spectacular about it? Don't even say that the battery life is bad because frankly it is not bad at all. In fact it lasts longer or just as long as the incredible with more heavy usage (and that was woth an 1800 mAh battery in the incredible)

The Thunderbolt isnt the first LTE phone.

I'm not going to be that retard to say that Android is way more gorund breaking than iOS because iOS did set up the table for touchscreen OS's and Apps.
The Droid Bionic will be the first dual core phone for verizon and the Thunderbolt is the first LTE phone for verizon. To say that Android doesn't change isn't a very well thought out statement.
But recently Android has been doing leaps and bounds where it seems that Apple will take a freaking giant step forward and then just move at baby steps. I'm not going to say that Android has lept pass Apple but I am going to say the race is very close.

E>N> is a sprint stock boy, he loves to put bullshitt on the shelf.
The T Bolt had a 1.3 MP cam in front vs. apples VGA +1
8mp and 720 out back vs Apples 5mp 720 +1
They put a 2nd Gen 1Ghz processor vs. Apple old A4 +1
Upped from 3.7 to a 4.3 vs Apples 3.5 in screen +1
4G LTE AND 8 Device Hotspot vs Apples 3G +2
(Hotspot not available on both carriers and max 5 devices)
Sense 2.0 vs Apples tired old layout +1
2.2 Froyo upgradeable w/ Flash vs. Apple 4.0 no flash +1
I think the score seaks for itself, backflips are a life raft at this point, people will begin wondering why they are buying outdated products from Apple when they can double there fix across the street. BACKFLIPS from competition need BACKFLIPS in RETURN - Dont even get me started on the Bionic stats vs. the Apple....

Correction; first LTE phone on a network the average consumer has even heard of.
