Next iPhone dock connector pics reveal 16-pin unit, 7.6mm case thickness measured

The part shows why there was a rumor recently of an 8-pin connector. It is actually a 16-pin one, as opposed to the current 30-pin, and has 8 pins on each side, for a total of 16. This is said to be the new norm for Apple's iOS devices, while Cupertino is supposed to provide an adapter of sorts, so it doesn't render your current accessories obsolete with the iPhone 5...

Recycled news. Frankly who cares how many pin iphobe has. standard is mini USB. World leading phone "Android" uses mini USB. So why big news with iPhobe pin? Been talked about over and over. Just sayin.

Sounds like a strategy to make everyone go re-buy their iProduct comapatable devices. They really are "changing everything"... at your expense of course.

From that perspective.... I guess you are right by Apple "Changing Everything Again"! +1 for pointing that fact out.

Coming from a moderate iOS and Android user, I didn't expect much from Apple. It's design may be old, still it looks good hence I don't believe Apple needs to change it. What I am concerned about its hardware and software. As iOS 6 was disappointing in bringing anything new in the market, I hope Apple releases a killer, new usable feature, not just some jumped up beta version of an app. The hardware better be nothing less than a quad-core. Apple needs to compete with Android too, not just its predecessors. As these iPhone design leaks are mostly looking the same, I have no complain regarding it. I don't care if Apple uses any different type of connector or not because I rarely use anything else rather than the company adapter.

If Apple is so worried about the space inside device (rumors about the nano SIM tray and now this connector), why just don't use micro USB ? But it seems that apple cares more about profit than about free space inside the device.

For more proprietary that Apple came up with or made and that would makes Android 10x popularity. Because people are getting tire of to keep up their sh!t.

With each pin having a specific function, would this newer connector be able to be inputted upside down?

I'm pretty sure that no.
