Next iPhone concept render hints what Apple could do with that extra screen space in a new design
0. phoneArena posted on 24 May 2012, 07:16
We got a nice piece of concept render work, which incorporates everything we've heard about the design of the next iPhone so far from various sources, off with the rumor that started circulating the other day about the 4" screen with 640x1136 pixels...

I live in Argentina, and with the ongoing customs embargo, it's impossible to acquire any iPhone. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can?

Unless you can figure out where to get a $50 case for it don't worry your self with an iphone get a android (high end). because its more customizable and they don't shatter if you drop it from 2 feet.

Looks pretty good, but i don't like the virtual home button ...
12. protozeloz posted on 24 May 2012, 08:14 2 0
why not? screen is ready when you really need it
48. Credo posted on 24 May 2012, 18:30 2 0
there is so much screen space left, why not make the 'home' button smaller and make it a hardware button like current devices, and update iOS so you have a bigger menu, now thats a phone then ! in my opinion i guess :)
55. SkOne posted on 25 May 2012, 12:03 0 1
If they do that, they'll really be ripping off Android
60. protozeloz posted on 25 May 2012, 12:52 0 0
they have been taking ideas from other OS's anyways it doesn't make any difference
5. messiah posted on 24 May 2012, 07:42 1 4
What could they do with more screen space??? we already know what larger screen renderings are capable of, Android has led this for how long now? Somehow it will be revolutionary that Apple is doing it. The IOS system is dated itself in not changing for four years, so that in itself that it is becoming more dynamic like its direct competition - even more so that it flies in the face of what Jobs upheld. Maybe it is natural evolution that Jobs passed and now changes are finally taking place re: design and software. Android has demonstrated what can be done the last three years as far as growth, potential and customer relations. Fit that in the extra screen space.
15. JeffdaBeat posted on 24 May 2012, 08:21 6 3
My God, can Apple release the phone before you start getting so angry about the fact that they are answering consumer's desire for a larger screen? Folks mock the iPhone for having a 3.5" screen and then when the rumor comes that the screen is going to get bigger, you complain that other manufacturers have been doing that for years. Pick your argument.
16. messiah posted on 24 May 2012, 08:34 2 1
you support my one point. It has been done for years. We don't need a demo of what we can do with a slightly bigger screen.
Dancing to a differrent JeffdaBeat.

Don't be bothered by all the haters they find fault in every apple product no matter what. They know deep inside the iphone is a great device not saying Android isn't i own three of them but i don't go bashing one or the other like i've said before, there great in their own ways both platforms.

Every phone has it's merits. But I stand by my statement that with folks on this site...the iPhone could literally cure cancer and they will find some way to hate it. Be a real nerd and embrace technology no matter who makes it. Be critical. Be fair.

O WOW... a "Virtual" Home button. Such innovation. Keep up the good work fruits over at apple.
But on a serious note: For all phones, virtual buttons just seem like a wasted use for the extra screen room.
17. neutralguy posted on 24 May 2012, 08:38 0 0
agree. Home button is the major problem for apple products for it gets really unresponsive as time goes by. It malfunctions some other time. But having a larger screen for the home button? what i think is that it will be absurd. it's more acceptable to have a touch sensitive key than combine it with the screen.
9. dickwyn posted on 24 May 2012, 07:55 0 1
liquid metal and virtual home button are totally out
14. GuiltyBystander posted on 24 May 2012, 08:21 0 0
They will probably keep the physical home button and just make it smaller or maybe even make it a capacitive home button.
It would be stupid to add 0.5" to the screen only to make the home button virtual, i'm guessing that iOS will have a major overhaul and they will probably add widgets.
18. AppleConspiracy posted on 24 May 2012, 08:47 0 0
Virtual Home button will be only a backward compatibility tool for old apps, othervise you don't see it in regular usage - this is a concept for buttonless iPhone, because it was very indicative if the rumors sre correct - extra 176 pixels on 329 PPI is exactly spaced for classic Home button. An elegant solution for fragmentation problem by introducing larger screen and wide format.
Sorry for not making it clear enough.
Thanks PA for publishing this!

A buttonless design and a larger screen would allow more gesture support for closing apps and multi-tasking. People love an interactive user experience. I remember when the first iPhone came out and everyone was asking if they zoom just by pinching their fingers.
Do other manufacturers have gesture support? Some. Just like how multi-touch has been around, but Apple will make the splash with this feature because they will actually advertise this feature heavily IF it makes it to the new model.
43. AppleConspiracy posted on 24 May 2012, 16:02 0 0
Apple could probably invent some new gesture system, it's a hard work since they need to retain elegancy and avoid compatibility issues.

I don't know why the rumours about Iphone are so awesome but when it releases, it is nowhere up to the expectations, a good example is the Iphone 4s.

I'm really sick of some people such as my classmates that consider iphone 4S the king of smartphones and despises Andriod. Come on why are you so proud with just a dual core processor and IOS. It's no match to the new Andriods and WP and you still admire it? Totally brainwashed by Apple
24. Zarak posted on 24 May 2012, 10:16 0 0
the on-screen button isn't good,, and the screen should be atleast 4.3"! if not 4.8

Apple sold 66 million iphones worldwide in the last 6 months with a 3.5 inch screen. So this is a non-issue. Apple haters are just looking for another reason to hate. But this is not one of them.
28. Chapin posted on 24 May 2012, 11:39 0 0
That's why i'm still android fans cuz apple never do something good the freaking phone not even had HD screen and 3.9-inc jajaja i thought they say 4-inc hell no.
30. Immolate posted on 24 May 2012, 11:54 1 0
For the longest time, Apple people argued that 3.5" was the scientifically proven best size for a phone screen, and now they'll argue that 3.9" is best. I think it's a bridge not far enough. Android has been providing an ideal test bed for years.
31. kindlefireowner posted on 24 May 2012, 11:57 0 0
I love Apple hate. It's based on nothing factual. Business 101. Make a product that people like, then sell as many of them as possible. Apple seems to have master that part. 66 million iphones sold worldwide in the last 6 months.
32. remixfa posted on 24 May 2012, 12:02 0 0
virtual buttons now on "iOS 4.0.3".. completely new and innovative.
33. AppleConspiracy posted on 24 May 2012, 12:38 0 0
It was only for illustrative purposes. Couldn't find better hi-res representative homescreen shot.
But let's face it: screen dimensions issue is probably the greatest problem Apple has for a new iPhone. If they want to change it, of course.
What would you do to enlarge the screen but keep pixel density and backward-compatible resolution?

yea, the SGS3 articles are beating most apple rumor articles these days.
kinda like how SGS3 presales beat the total of all i4s sales on launch weekend... by double.. and it hasnt even launched yet. woops.
47. AppleConspiracy posted on 24 May 2012, 16:34 0 0
SGS(1,2,3) is socially important only because it represents an opposition to iPhone. In other words, it is the feelings toward iPhone that make phones like SGS popular.
It all comes down to iPhone again, the aesthetical and spiritual axis of our society.

im sure it has nothing to do with the fact that all 3 galaxy phones have been the pinnacle of tech from the moment of their release. And they have that big beautiful screen, high end speaker codecs, and are filled to the brim with high end technology. They are oh so easy to hack hand have massive development communities. Oh and they dont break when you drop them so easily.
Yup, it's totally because they are all iphone haters.
52. AppleConspiracy posted on 25 May 2012, 03:12 0 0
Samsung's politics has allways been to be the best in things that don't matter to Apple.
It's like the smartest boy in school tries to gain popularity over the prettiest boy by being smart, and eventually gains considerable popularity in other less-beautiful schoolmates, but only because they despise the pretty boy. Their energy is based on opposition to the hysteric and irrational worship of pure form without substance.
Of course, secretly, they are jealous, they are "outside" only because they are frustrated by not being able to go "in", to identifiy themselves with the pretty.
58. remixfa posted on 25 May 2012, 12:31 0 0
another bad analogy.
in school, the popular kid is popular while the smart guy studies.
When they finish school, the smart guy goes on to be a high paid person somewhere, while the cool guy never really moves on since he forgot to get an education. In REAL life, chicks dig the cool guy while they are young n stupid and then go for the smart and funny guys that pay them a lot of attention when they are wanting more from life than a receding hair line and old football stories.
Thats actually very much like iOS and android. iOS hasnt changed much in 5 OS iterations while android has changed dramatically. iOS was the big cool guy when it first came out, and now it still the same old stale thing. Android, the OS that all the iOS nuts made fun of when it came out, now sells 3x more phones per quarter and now gets the hot chicks, as its the new coolness.
You keep reliving the "glory days", the rest of us will keep moving forward.
61. AppleConspiracy posted on 25 May 2012, 13:49 0 0
I think you live in some kind of alternative parallel world.
Apple is still very dominant and everything is still compared to it - it's still something that establishes the criteria.
The "advantages" of other phones are just in a way that lineary and numerically "upgrade" essentially iPhone's paradigm.
You are blind if you are not able to see that fact.
For analogy in which iPhone is the adolescent cool guy that is characteristic for non-grown-ups, you are absolutely right. That's why the whole world still worships it, because only few of us are really mature, especially in this society.

Amazing concept design. Liquid metal would be cool but some say that even applying in macbook air would take another year or two, due to unibody design, but even for a phone might take more time.
39. Berzerk000 posted on 24 May 2012, 14:05 0 0
This is a great design, aside from the virtual home button. Though, this probably won't even be considered until 2013, so, you have to wait a couple years for that liquid-metal.
