Next Lumia smartphone model to be Microsoft branded
0. phoneArena 03 Sep 2013, 10:17 posted on
As part of the deal between Microsoft and Nokia, the Redmond based software giant gets control of the Asha and Lumia trademarks; as a result, the next Lumia model will be branded with the Microsoft moniker, as will any Asha models going forward. The Nokia name remains with the Finnish based firm as part of a ten-year licensing deal with Microsoft that allows featurephones to continue using the Nokia title...

from now lumia brand is going to suck and this deal ll lead it to failure
33. Googler (Posts: 813; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
Depends. If you liked WP before, no reason to not like it now. If MS keeps the design and hardware team in place, little is going to change with the Lumia phones, except they'll have a ton more cash for R&D.
If you didn't like WP before, that's definitely not going to change.

Some people like myself tried WP just because of Nokia as a brand. WP wasn't a breath taking OS it was still far behind Android but stil i managed to live with that and got used to it because I'm proud being owning a Nokia's product.
but i failed to realize the truth that current nokia wasn't the company which i once knew, the internal changed its CEO,managers etc has changed. Nokia, the brand was all that left Inside it was a devil working for MS.
Nokia, as a true nokia user i say, i really really really really miss you.
79. SingDaFire (Posts: 74; Member since: 21 Jun 2013)
True.... I used it cos it was from Nokia and not cos of WP.. this news has really saddened me... Wish this was just a bad dream.. I don't know wat to do now...:( we'll miss you like anything nokia... Now no more WP for me....
89. Alex123 (Posts: 132; Member since: 17 Oct 2012)
Me neither. I really miss Nokia. The name changes and everything will be changed. All its customer will not trust and consider that Nokia (with microsoft) is a good hardware company anymore. Nokia is a good and well-known brand name. Fail Microsoft, you fail because you use bad trick on Nokia by sending Elop to destroy Nokia and buy Nokia in a cheap price.

All users from WP are Nokians........!!!
54. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
Well to tell you the truth the only sucky thing here is that lumia will be carried by microsoft, not nokia. I hate to say this but microsoft + nokia, in terms of product designs, will be a great combination. Though, it's really hard to swallow the fact that nokia brand name will be dead soon. I hope microsoft had retain the brand name since ms is not that popular in smartphone world. They should've used both in a device just like how beats brand was used by htc.
63. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 523; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
Dude i love nokia
Elop was CEO he control nokia. Nokia just a company Elop is in charge he make decision, i think he was planning this from the beginning...
and liked the way nokia going out with Microsoft until now they marriaged...
95. WindowsiDroid (Posts: 56; Member since: 22 Jul 2013)
Yah I wish Microsoft juts do that Retain the Nokia Brand Name instead of Microsoft, I think that we should say goodbye Nokia!
60. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 523; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
I hope they name it just "Lumia" no microsh*t.
68. Commentator (Posts: 1866; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
They could at least call it the "Microsoft Nokia" and drop the "Lumia" from the branding.
This is an obvious attempt to grow Microsoft's brand as an OEM, but they picked an absolutely awful time to do it. If they had done this four years ago it would make more sense, but this is too late, and it's really just salt in the wounds of Nokia fans.
86. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
True that. They shouldve retain the nokia brand for smartphones. I just want to go to ms headquarters and sh*t on everyone's desk right now. This gives me so much hate to ms given that they have this condition. First theyve bought it cheap and now totally killing nokia. Elop really did his job well. Thank you mr. Elop for destroying a legendary company.

You can really see the future right? Those people running billion dollar companies are dumb, but you there, sitting on a couch and commenting are somehow a pundit? Dont shoot them down man, they know what they are doing. Chill!
87. Whateverman (Posts: 3060; Member since: 17 May 2009)
You don't have to be an expert to see this was bad, very bad! Knowledge isn't always measured by what's in your bank account.

You never know. Money or no money.
93. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 523; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
Its just my opinion
Nobody can see future not even those people who running billion dollar.
Almost everybody sad by this news
its sad to hear the king has no longer there.

and your right i am no genius not a billionaire i can hardly afford a flagship smartphone. But even these companies can make mistakes...
tell me buddy.. None of these smell pretty funky to you all these elop, and MS things?? I think he's a spy working for MS from the beginning...
92. akki20892 (Posts: 1672; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)

yeah, im with you.. farewell nokia
I just wish nokia lumia will retain.. sigh
46. SonyXperiaNexus (Posts: 367; Member since: 01 Oct 2012)
well, there is a possibility that it will be Lumia, just lumia. Like their Xbox. They dont call it the "Microsoft Xbox One" do they?
4. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3704; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
I'm not interested on Windows Phone anymore. This is just unacceptable. I'd rather choose the BlackBerry Z30 instead of the Microsoft Lumia bla bla bla.
Nokia, please switch to Android, you have lose your originality. I thought Elop is the hero who saved Nokia from sinking, but he's just a trojan horse from Microsoft. Go home Elop.
9. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
ohh come on kid, so suddenly now your spewing the same lines android fanboys say. all due to this. google and motorola are the same story yet thats actually seeing disappointment.
why not wait and see what the future holds. righting off an entire range due to company loyalty and hate on another company is childish and where does it get you?
17. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3704; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
I don't hate Nokia and Microsoft. But this time, it's a nightmare. No more Nokia Lumias, and they will become Microsoft Lumias.
I disagree with the Android fanboys that said "Nokia, switch to Android!" etc. But this time, I agree with them. So, you're saying that we all should be happy for this? Really?
39. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
so a name change means a complete drop of a range and the end of the world
why dont we as customers just wait and see. if they ruin it then so be it. what will this over the top reactions accomplish except make tech lovers look like sad childish cry babies
are you saying this has that big an implication on your life? wont you be able to function now? did you have the same reaction to google and motorola.
48. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3704; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
You misunderstood my comment completely. Just like everyone here are disappointed including me, this is a normal reaction because no one expect this to happen. Let's make an example here, if Microsoft buy Samsung and all of the Samsung Galaxy become Microsoft Galaxy, what's your reaction? It's the same.
And as MorePhonesThanNeeded said, what's disappointing about Google/Motorola? Just look at the Moto X, a perfect simple smartphone from Google/Motorola. If Google didn't buy Motorola, Motorola will be dead right now.
59. papss (Posts: 2163; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
What? Moto x is garbage, in fact since google bought them they have been garbage. Shows how many fanboys are on here that talk out both sides of their mouths. Its okay for google but not m$? Right
44. StreetNerd (Posts: 683; Member since: 08 Dec 2010)
o dude.... ur such a 2face -_-
its is still the same hardware just different name....
bitch plz shaddap
51. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3704; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
And again, it's just a normal reaction. Of course I know it's still the same hardware and just a different name. Microsoft Lumia, how much weirder can it gets? I know I'm overreacting a bit, but if there's still Nokia Lumias in the future, I will get it. But Microsoft Lumia? No.
You will see the difference if Samsung Galaxy S4 suddenly change to Microsoft Galaxy S4.
67. StreetNerd (Posts: 683; Member since: 08 Dec 2010)
ur lost thn... lol
a Microsoft Galaxy S4 is just the same Ativ S so i wont see the difference :P
i just got my brand new L925 :D
and i will get a Microsoft branded Lumia too!
81. microsoftnokiawin (Posts: 648; Member since: 30 Mar 2012)
they're stripping Nokia of their pride and brand that's the problem
57. LetsBeHonest (Posts: 523; Member since: 04 Jun 2013)
This seems all so sad and yeah like nightmare
so this is the end of nokia Lumia species right
from now on Microsoft Lumia right.
and i am proud my Lumia is in nokia Lumia species.... Yeahhh...
and Microsoft Lumia sound like s**t....
18. MorePhonesThanNeeded (Posts: 612; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
What's disappointing about Google/Motorola? Have you tried the Moto X? How many phones on the market period can do what the X can with the same battery and last as long? Come on out with it now, since you can say Google/Motorola buyout was a dissappointment.
Biased people say lots of stupid things and claim to be reasonable.
36. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
you seem to confuse my comment with something slating the x
i said there has been major disappointment with Motorola's offerings. i never said they were bad devices. they failed to wow and left many looking elsewhere.....if you cant accept this go be biased elsewhere
ohh i get it you cant stand google and the word disappointment been in the same comment. and you then speak of bias.....unbelievable
you want to rave and jump up and down because i pointed out that many were let down by the new Motorola devices do it elsewhere
72. papss (Posts: 2163; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
Actually I have tried the Moto x and well its average at best. Nothing special including the design. Moto was much better before google.
15. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 4704; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Who at Nokia will execute the switch to Android? MS acquired the engineers that would be doing an Android implementation. Nokia is out of the smartphone business once this transaction closes.
42. asingha94 (Posts: 219; Member since: 08 Apr 2012)
Really disappointed!!No more lumia from Nokia brand!Nokia was good at everything including software update & software quality.Just cant believe in Microsoft!!bye bye Nokia!!fk u microsoft!!
74. rromerof (Posts: 10; Member since: 28 Nov 2012)
HAHAHA!! Losing Nokia's originality?? Do you consider switching to Android as Original?? HAHAHAHAHA LMAO!!
84. -box- (Posts: 3470; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
xperiadroid, what's REALLY changing? It's like a marriage: Nokia and Microsoft were dating and living together, now they're engaged, and early next year they'll be married, and Nokia's bringing a significant dowry to the relationship, and may have to change its name. The phones will be made by the same people, designed by the same people, and the enthusiasm by them should be no different. This just allows Microsoft to buy the company instead of shelling out a billion dollars a year as an investment.
That said, I sure as heck hope they keep the Nokia branding on the phones. Nokia is legendary. Microsoft isn't.
5. Bootutu (Posts: 117; Member since: 11 Jul 2013)
Shame Nokia name will fade out of memory over time, from grace to grass.....
6. Kurai (unregistered)
R.I.P. Nokia . . .
10. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3704; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Not really. If Elop become the CEO of Microsoft, another CEO steps into the Nokia family, there's still chance for Nokia to switch to Android.
Long live Nokia!
7. aniqtheboyz (Posts: 2; Member since: 03 Sep 2013)
Microsoft Lumia ???? Son Of A Bitch
Nokia Lumia is already a perfect
11. LumiaLover (Posts: 160; Member since: 27 Sep 2012)
This is a disgrace, and a very risky strategy from Microsoft. I was considering switching to Apple next year and this has just made my mind up! Oh and how does Lumia fit with Surface...I don't quite get that!
13. aditya.k (Posts: 298; Member since: 10 Mar 2013)
Microsoft Lumia Bandit. Nice name to start with for MS!
14. Credo (Posts: 558; Member since: 19 Apr 2012)
I'm really gonna miss you Nokia .... Can't believe this, i really can't ....
16. MorePhonesThanNeeded (Posts: 612; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
I really need to see the actual deal, what does Nokia still have and what have they sold to MS. If they still have their Nokia name and R&D along with their patents they can ultimately start off a niche product. Who knows what Nokia as a company will do, but they just got themselves a nice bonus for ditching their smartphone business and incoming payments for use of patents. Good deals for them, but MS on the other hand just caused all OEM making WP to cast their gaze since the OS maker now has hardware to compete and can under cut them...only time will tell. We know that MS likes to control the top and be everywhere so we'll see if they can keep their gargantuan pride in check and not screw this up.
75. rromerof (Posts: 10; Member since: 28 Nov 2012)
Maybe and just maybe, Nokia would start building new phones with Meego, Jolla, or anything else... (please never Android). That would be acceptable.
20. allen83 (Posts: 104; Member since: 01 Mar 2012)
Sad for nokia good thing i bought a nokia n9. It will sell a fortune after a decade because of the brand name nokia and good os. Now patiently waiting for Jolla to replace my n9
21. khaldoon (Posts: 11; Member since: 17 May 2013)
I really wanted my next smartphone to be Nokia . I really wanted to have a purrview Nokia in my poket. Now that Microsoft has taken over Nokia it's just done for me . It's so sad to see with of the legends( Nokia) ending its path this way. R.I.P to the king of the smartphones maker
