New set of BlackBerry Passport photos will give you goosebumps
0. phoneArena 25 Aug 2014, 22:17 posted on
If you were to ask many PhoneArena readers which new handset they are really looking forward to seeing in the second half of the year, you would get votes for the 4.7 inch Apple iPhone 6, and the 5.5 inch phablet version of the iPhone. You would also see hands raised for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and the Sony Xperia Z3. And the BlackBerry Passport would also grab a few votes...

I would buy this phone if it didn't run BlackBerry OS...
6. Kjayhawk (Posts: 293; Member since: 07 Oct 2010)
I feel the same way, but I really can't judge haven't used BBOS. Love the phone and if it does run the google play store then it would be a buy for me. Unfortunately I know it won't
If I was Blackberry I would throw everything I have into this phone if it fails Blackberry fails.

Amazon app store would be installed out of box :D So you get android apps on your BB10 ;)

BB10 is surprisingly amazing! Its like a blend of iOS and Android.
31. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
yeah and people complain without even trying it.
19. Doakie (Posts: 1865; Member since: 06 May 2009)
Yeah. I'd get goose bumps if I saw it running Android.

HP and Dell adopt android, did you buy it?
Nokia listen to you and adopt android, did you buy it?
Save your breath, with the failure of these android adapter, BlackBerry wouldn't be stupid to do so. If I want to buy android, I'll make sure it's Asian brand
40. nebsif (Posts: 37; Member since: 27 Jul 2014)
idk what HP and dell produced, but da Nokia device is pure crap w/o google services. we aint blind retards ya know, kthnx.
its like instead of trying to win some of their reputation back by producing a good device with a good OS (android), they did us a favor of producing a crapbrick with decimated android.
42. Johnnokia (Posts: 1060; Member since: 27 May 2012)
Definitely YES, billions would Nokia Android phone IF it is high end, and not like the lame X series.
But I agree with you. BlackBerry is BlackBerry that is used to have its own OS like Apple, nothing else.
33. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
my friend its not the old Blackberry OS .
its the new version BB10 it can do better in anything your preffered OS can do.
and it will beat any OS on the planet when it comes to security and productivity.
Try it then comment. dont be a hater without even knowing what you hate.
39. nebsif (Posts: 37; Member since: 27 Jul 2014)
k gimmi BBOS for my Galaxies then, I wont mind trying it out ;)
37. Ashoaib (Posts: 3229; Member since: 15 Nov 2013)
wow... this phone is looking pretty solid... I think the price will be higher
47. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
That's funny fzacek, because that's the main reason I'd buy it! You try something before you go out of your way to knock it....
63. hossamaltarawneh (Posts: 36; Member since: 18 Oct 2013)
Why? , the BlackBerry 10 OS is the most stable OS I've ever used. I had an iphone 4S with the buggy IOS 7 and I switched to Galaxy note 2 after installing games and apps the phone started lagging and sometimes apps crash! And to add I had to restart the device every while. Then I switched to BB10 * iwas former BlackBerry user * I've the keyboard you can say, it's beautiful no lag what so ever. I've installed plenty of android apps and it goes smoothly. And with OS 10.3.1 is coming their will be major UI changes for more beautiful experience. Simply the BlackBerry 10 OS is for sure one of the best OS's now ;)

BB might had found their footing (should've bump the screen resolution higher tho).
This would be an excellent phone for corporations and their email system!.
10. Duketytz (Posts: 534; Member since: 28 Nov 2013)
It's already over 400ppi and I doubt the benefits of the increased screen resolution will outweigh the costs of it (battery life)
16. 0xFFFF (Posts: 3806; Member since: 16 Apr 2014)
Text clarity really benefits from high PPI.
You can also do some more functional things in the UI because interface elements are clearer to the eye.
23. ManusImperceptus (Posts: 724; Member since: 10 Jun 2014)
Bumped screen resolution? Which phone has a higher ppi...?
64. hossamaltarawneh (Posts: 36; Member since: 18 Oct 2013)
451 ppi isn't enough for clear reading? You can adjust the white balance in the setting with BlackBerry 10 os. From cool white to warm white.

This phone actually looks nice.
Too bad I'm enjoying my Moto X quite a lot.
4. bugsbunny00 (Posts: 1989; Member since: 07 Jun 2013)
so wide like two in one, well great specs bbm..good luck.
5. Vexify (banned) (Posts: 570; Member since: 16 Jun 2014)
Whats wrong with this phone? The one problem I see is that today's smartphones all have the same general shape. This spices things up.
12. kent-gaga (Posts: 487; Member since: 10 Apr 2012)
most people are scared to change you know
32. hossamaltarawneh (Posts: 36; Member since: 18 Oct 2013)
Most companies afraid to innovate you know.

How are you supposed to hold this phone? It looks uncomfortable to hold in your palm and uncomfortable to hold up against your ear. Too wide and too sharp. Keyboard is so narrow (takes up only about the bottom quarter of the phone) that you wouldn't easily be able to hold it with two hands and type with your thumbs (too much weight above the keyboard would make it unbalanced in your hands).
Just seems like there was very little thought put into ergonomics.
11. aba71983 (Posts: 805; Member since: 24 Jul 2014)
Ask yourself how do you hold the Samsung Galaxy Mega, Sony Xperia Ultra?
Are you going to hold in your hand or in your feet? See yourself what it's look like when uour feet holding your smartphone looks ugly right?
14. 0xFFFF (Posts: 3806; Member since: 16 Apr 2014)
"Just seems like there was very little thought put into ergonomics."
The design of the Passport is exciting to me. It's fresh, it's different. I think it goes farther in the direction of phones being small portable computers than any phone design in a long time.
Ergonomics might be a compromise, it's hard to say without holding the device. Depending on the balance of the phone's weight, the keyboard position may not matter as much as you think. It depends on where the center of gravity is and what effective rotational force is exerted on the phone body when typing.
Like Fzacek mentioned, having a super secure version of Android on this phone -- ala Blackphone -- would make this phone far more appealing to a larger audience. BB isn't a bad OS, but it is not a popular OS.
This year is ending up with some interesting phones. Some months ago I thought the year was going to be a wash due to Qualcomm's failures. Now it seems there's some good stuff that will be available soon.

If a customer wants an Android phone, They will get Galaxy or Xperia or HTC since Blackberry itself is not popular among the common man. If anybody knows Blackberry they should know about their OS. According to me, Android should not be the OS for the whole world. The choices should be there always.
58. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Agreed. There should always be choice.
29. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
hold it anyway you like , it will feel the same :D
cuz its square eh !!
9. PorkyBurger (Posts: 585; Member since: 18 May 2013)
If I am going to fail on trying to find Motorola DROID RAZR phones in Canada, I might give a shot on Blackberry. I tried a Q10 in a mall, and it wasn't a bad experience at all. Liked it.
15. rjmlive (Posts: 68; Member since: 07 Apr 2012)
Seriously liking this device. I couldn't commit to the Blackberry OS, but I really am intrigued by the form factor. Legitimately interesting.
26. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
to the peoples who blatantly think BB10 OS isnt good , you are 100% getting it wrong.
The OS is a masterpiece with the highest security in the planet. The 10.3 update has focused more on design and icons look ubercool now.
The hub has all your messages in once place classified as per accounts and can be colour coded too. u dont have to open actual apps to reply to ims or e-mails.
all the essential apps like password keeper , documents to go , facebook, twitter and more are built & guarded by blackberry itself.
u dont need to click any button to go back or exit an app just a simple swipe up.
and if you swipe up on ur homescreen the screen shows your notifications and the battery percentage in on the corner.
there is a lot more , you wont get it untill you try it. and i guarantee you wont wanna come back , because you will also have the option to install and run all your favourite android apps in that OS.
49. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Again, well said my friend.
Too many people here on PA want to knock BB10 without even having tried it.
18. gigaraga (Posts: 1454; Member since: 29 Mar 2013)
I didn't get goosebumps. I got cancer from those photos. Jokes aside, it actually look quite cute...being ALMOST 1:1 instead of the long slab like almost all other phones. Nice touch.
20. jedpatrickdatu (Posts: 167; Member since: 24 Jan 2013)
I dont like the square screen. Videos would have a lot of black boxes.
21. AfterShock (Posts: 3698; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
I'm liking this.
BB has a ace up their sleeve.
24. ManusImperceptus (Posts: 724; Member since: 10 Jun 2014)
My wife's still grumbling about her Lumia not having a physical keyboard, but she's wishing for a T9 layout, not a (nearly) full qwerty. I think this goes for many ordinary, no-nonsense users...
28. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
yeah when your excitement for being in the popular list finishes , these phones actually come in.
the real phones that get your work done. blackberry keyboards are the best.
25. pgeary (Posts: 1; Member since: 26 Aug 2014)
Although I've never been a fan of Blackberry OS it's actually quite a good system and from a corporate/business view it has a huge amount of things going for it yes it's design is unusual but that adds to its uniqueness and also no doubt enables them to put in phone specific software features, with a screen with such high resolution videos won't look any different and they are not meant to because it's the text clarity which will seriously shine great for a business phone and I've got no doubt that even with the keyboard being so small that they've shifted the center of gravity lower down the device, so my final thoughts are this: Does it do what it needs to for its intended market? The answer is yes. Does think outside the box and stand out among most other modern day smartphones? Yes. And lastly does it run android? Well no it doesn't but then again with so many android phones about that's a good thing, It's good to be different.
27. parthoman (Posts: 80; Member since: 18 Aug 2014)
wow just wow !! these surely gave me goosebumps , waiting eagerly with my cash all saved up.
and the limited edition z10 in red looks awesome.
People should be aware that Blackberry isnt like the old times anymore , it has evolved into something secure and better.
iam 100% sure it will be a major player in the near future.
bought bb shares when they were $6.66 now its running $9.94 and iam still holding to them. the only thing i love about apple is their macbook lines with windows installed. :D
and also Mr. Chen was the first person to call iphone users the wall huggers , unfortunately samsung capitalized on that one and made an advertisement.
maybe samsung had enough cash on books to face the consequences, but nice going.

The phone looks Solid ....come on Sprint lol
36. snowgator (Posts: 3556; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
I have been an admirer of BB10 since the first time I played with it. This sure is one square looking slab of black, but I will happily give it a look see when it is released. I feel BB will price it out of the stratosphere, so maybe I won't be able to swing it. But I am more then curious - I am hopeful.
Most likely aiming for the enterprise crowd and not the consumer, but I sure miss a real keyboard.

I just bought a tent... for the waiting line.... just don't know yet which Color I should pick..

This is an ugly phone that will not sell. None of the carriers really sell Blackberry anymore anyway. You have to order them online if you want them.
51. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Apiskula, you're giving out false information as usual. There are many carriers overseas that still sell BlackBerry's in their stores, with others saying they will carry the Passport. Here in the States, Verizon, the largest carrier in the U.S., still offers BlackBerry handsets in their stores. This phone will sell well, especially in enterprise. Stop trolling and spreading falsehoods, and stop using two accounts, jbishops/Apiskula.
62. hossamaltarawneh (Posts: 36; Member since: 18 Oct 2013)
Umm, I've heard that yesterday blackberry and verizon got a deal for enterprise. Your comment is irrelevant
66. jbishops (banned) (Posts: 62; Member since: 12 Aug 2014)
Yeah the deal will not last...These phones do not sell in the states
68. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Don't you ever get tired of being wrong?
45. Deaconclgi (Posts: 405; Member since: 03 Nov 2012)
*Checks arm....."Nope, no Goosebumps."
The Passport looks great though, sleek and stylish with a standout design. Now, lets hope BB can make a budget for some serious marketing.
46. CX3NT3_713 (Posts: 2248; Member since: 18 Apr 2011)
I am really liking this phone, hows the blackberry OS browser experience? Anyone???
50. meanestgenius (Posts: 9635; Member since: 28 May 2014)
The BB10 browser is amazing! It's the best web browser I have ever used on a mobile phone. One of the only left that actually still plays the flash content on web sites. It's also faster than any mobile browser currently out there. It's great! If you get the chance, you should definitely try it!
54. CX3NT3_713 (Posts: 2248; Member since: 18 Apr 2011)
Thanks for your input, I'm now considering on giving this beast a go ^_-
