New images of the Motorola Droid phone for Verizon

New images of the Motorola Droid phone for Verizon
It seems to be no stopping the Motorola Droid, as new info keeps coming out almost every day. Yesterday, we through we've seen it all with the new "iDon't Droid Does" TV Commercial and Web Site, but today the good people over at BGR have some new images of the Motorola Droid. We're not sure if this is the "final" design version or another prototype, as the QWERTY keyboard has two blank keys on the side of the "Alt" keys. This is also the first time we've seen the Droid sporting gold trim. So are you going to buy the Droid? Let us know in the Comments section below.

I pray this is the prototype because it's not a good looking phone, kind of reminds me of the old saying "looks don't matter it's what's inside that count's" and what's in this phone looks good. BGR said this isn't the final design fingers crossed.

I don't think that there's that much time for them to change the design. A lot of people are saying that there's a countdown that says it will be released on November 6th. So for them to change the design and start manufacturing them all before the beginning of November will be bordering impossbile. It could be possible, but in my opinion this should be the final design (more or less). I think this phone looks really good, but was it really necessary to advertise this against the iphone? To me, this is almost identical to the G1. The only thing different is a bigger screen and a better camera. But its too late for Verizon to turn back now I guess. First it was the voyager as the iphone killer, then it was the instinct that was suppose to beat the iphone, then Android's G1 and their open source thingy was suppose to take down the app store I guess, then the storm was suppose to be the real iphone killer, then the palm pre came into the picture just a few months ago and was suppose to be better than the iphone in everyway, and now Android and Verizon are back again with the Droid. It kind of gets annoying after a while.

The LG Voyager was never marketed at the iPhone killer, it was the VZW fanboys that took care of that part. Verizon at the time simply touted it's network and alternatives to the iPhone.

voyager was never marketed as an iphone killer, just vzws first real media touchscreen phone. well EN, you always pit yourself against the leader. If the droid commercial said "the droid is better than the palm 600w", do you think anyone would care? As overhyped as hell as the iphone is, it is the big monster everyone is chasing. I own an android phone (mytouch) and i am getting the new moto on tmobile next month, and i can tell you for a fact android blows anything iphone out of the water. I was a hardcore blackberry nut, but android is very impressive. The Pre and the Storm were business phones first. And they WERE better than the iphone in dozens of ways. the iphone is a MEDIA phone first, not a work phone. The android follows the same path but gives you the power of the open access to make it whatever you want... so its the best of both worlds. No manufacturer is in control of your phone, you are. And thats something the iphone will NEVER be.

Thanks for stating your opinion (I want to make sure that you know those are just opinions). But anyways the voyager was marketed as the iPhone killer but not officially. I've watched videos of Verizon representatives stating it was so and it soon became permanently attatched with the Voyager. But I agree 100% that the other phones are more of a business phone than the iPhone, but then why do they have to always set themselves up to go head to head with the iPhone? I don't think they know that by constantly comparing the iPhone to other phones, they are always continuing to give the iPhone and Apple publicity. I'd like to see storm 2 vs palm pre or something instead of iPhone, iPhone, iPhone all day long.

You are absolutely right. It is a common fact that the reason companies let other companies compare each other even if they trash talk their product is because people will remember the NAME of the BRAND instead of remembering what they actually said about it. For instance there was a commercial that a certain auto company made where they claimed to have so much power in their truck that they could pull anything out of anywhere. They showed their truck pulling the other auto company's truck out of one of those boat ramps after it had gotten stuck in the mud. People didn't remember them saying that the competitor's truck didn't compare in power to their truck, they only remembered the competitor's name being on the truck and thus gave just as much publicity to the competitor as it did their own.

Sigh... i am sooooo bored of VZW's current line-up. Nothing is worth upgrading my vogue to yet... So i think I might just get this and play with something new. I have 1.6 on my Vogue that runs pretty decent, but a 2.0 Android phone for real might keep me entertained until a Snapdragon phones comes vzw's way.

While I'm not in love with the phone itself... I'm desperate for an android on vzw, and while I would love an htc, it appears that won't have a physical keyboard, which I really want... so, yeah, I'm planning on getting this one, lucky me, upgrade a couple weeks after it's release.

I think, IMHO, that the slightly more cramped keyboard here is worth the sacrifice for the thinness (relative) of the device. The Voyaer/enVTouch/Rogue devices at "fat" when compared to Droid or iPhone.

The amount of space needed to fit certain components changes based on the amount of white space allowed for in a device. As a rule of thumb the more space in a keyboard, the ticker the device. For the most part only BB has been able to go against this grain.

Looks good. 2 thoughts running through my mind. 1. Its a motorola, and almost all motos on VZW have stunk for the last few years. Only the RAZR2 was a decent phone. Hopefully they created solid hardware to go along with the new OS. 2. The one thing I can't live without is T9. and I don't mean qwerty text prediction, I mean standard numeric keypad entry T9 like every flip phone (except motorola) has had for years now. Does ANYONE know of a T9 keypad add on for android that could be downloaded on this phone? PLEASE? I love android, but I can't give up T9. Sometimes you just have to type with one hand, and those tiny little onscreen smushed up qwerty's are trash.

It is no smartphone, but you can bet that data plan of at least $9.99 will be required! That is the new scheme to get your green. I think they call this an "enhanced multi-media" phone, therefore you must pay VZW extra if you want it - even if you just want the keyboard for texting!

You can bet your booties that this will require $30 data package. Android syncs with google servers. You can't get past the welcome screen without logging into your google account. All PDA's, or smart phones, or whatever you want to call them, require $30 data. This is no different. Blackberry requires you to have a data package, even though the software doesn't force you to input an email address, whereas android does. Verizon doesn't make money off handsets, they actually lose money by subsidizing handsets. They make their money from data. If they didn't require this device to have data, it wouldn't exist.

I had the opportunity to play with this thing and it appears to be what they say it will be - except an iPhone killer! VZW is arrogant and is only concerned about their network. They put other companies down (they are terrified of AT&T!!) and act as if one is not on Verizon, you are on crap. If these others were so bad, they would not be in business! VZW DID promote that BS Voyager as an iPhone killer, as they did with the Storm and now this "Droid" or "Sholes." The fact is, the iPhone is so advanced that no one has even been able to match it, let alone "kill it." The sad part is, Apple is not a cell phone manufacturer, but they ended up making the best cell phone ever! After it, all we have seen are lame touch screen phones trying to get people into it. VZW thought it was about their network (which any company CAN sure up to match), then they thought that it was about a touch screen, now they think it is about an OS - which most people do not realize is on a cell phone! They fail to realize the appeal of the iPhone is deeper than what I just mentioned. I won't go into detail because then I would be doing VZW's marketing guy's jobs for them, but Android is not the answer either. They go on sites like these and they think that is what people want. From a VZW poitn of view (controlled phones), Android is a welcome, but it is not what will kill an iphone. At this point, nothing will kill the iPhone except an iPhone 2! Given VZW's attack on a phone - not a phone company, the iphone MUST be all that! Only now does VZW attempt to stray away from it's 'network.' However, they are still behind the eightball. Now, this "Droid" phone as they want to call it, is what you think it is. If you can imagine how it is in your hand, that is how it is. The screen (from memory) does not appear to be as large as an iPhone, but it is very clear. The interent looked presentable and Ebay looked as it should, but Youtube did not. The keyboard works well, but the main thing about this phone is the weight! This thing is HEAVY! It weighs a good pound and a half! I am not sure why it weighs so much, but it does. Now, I am not jumping on this phone because VZW is, I was on this from day one becayse full touch screen is not where it's at. I wanted a physical keyboard and I like Motorola as they continue to innovate phones. Now, VZW loved to put down Motorola, but their network is made by them and they want them to make this "iPhone" killer! VZW liked to hype up the cheap LG phones. I guess it's like the Wii putting down Gran Theft Auto because they cannot support it, but if they had it, they would love it!

Of course you are gonna compete with the next biggest company and its biggest seller aka the Iphone. Just like apple was battling to keep Pre out of Itunes. Your memory must not serve you correct but the Droid has a 3.7 screen - Iphone 3.5 screen. Nobody wants to kill the Iphone but to show that there are phones if not better but just as good. Besides I'm a big texter, and the qwerty for the iphone is horrible without haptic feedback. Just my opinion.

Ok. I was going by memeory from what I realled on the iPhones screens vs what I just saw in the Droid. Why does a comapny have to try and show people that there are phones just as good or better than the iPhone? So far, no company has been able to show this. Apple makes the iPhone, not ATT, so why is VZW attacking the iPhone? Sounds like jealousy to me. The first ad was "there's a map for that." Lame! Whoever does VZW's ads should be canned. VZW has the worst ads of ALL carrirers. Maybe the bad ads and phones istheir way of trying to put emphasis on the network? I just take issue when a company has to put it's resources into challenging a product as opposed to challenging another company - even if that product is killing them. It just shows weakness and that the network is now what attracks people to certain carriers.

A) "If you can imagine how it is in your hand, that's how it is?" B) "It weighs a good pound and a half?" C) A company shouldn't challenge a product? So you are also offended by the I'm a Mac/I'm a PC ads? A little advice: Less talkie, more thinkie.

from personal expierence with this phone... its phenomonal compared to anything verizon has release past present and possibly near future.. DO NOT JUDGE THIS PHONE UNTIL YOU HAVE HELD IT AND ACUTALLY PLAYED WITH IT...take this comment for what its worth, i have had the curve storm tour dare env2 env3 ozone and a few others, and this phone was by far the best, iphone killer or not, this thing is the real deal and a lot of the previous posts ive read are VERY critical..once you hold it and acutually use it... ull fall in love...unless your really that much of an iphone fanboy.. this thing is sooo versitile itll knock your sox off!!!! not to mention the speed....i downloaded a game on it and it was done in seconds and no install times...not like rim where you have to reset your phone and wait 3 to 5 mins before actually using your app .. its the fastest phone ive seen and on the vzw network... bar none this phone will surprise people. i do agree on the square design and how its clunky and its a little heavy, but the phone would not be able to pull off the versitility without this design, this in one of the best moto phones ive seen come through any carrier in quite some time... be patient my friends.. droid does...

p.s. I find it amazing that with all the flaws the iphone has, no one EVER brings them to the surface....lets just face it .... eventually other phones are going to catch up.. and people want choice...not everyone is going to want the i phone... its great no doubt but eventually the i phone will just be the i phone ... apple is a great company, but think about it: no removable battery, qwerty keyboard sucks, no flash, you couldnt even send a pic message until what .. ten mins ago and the phones been out for three years? 3 mega pixel camera.. great apps.. but you have to fish through 70 k to find the 5 k that arent crap and the ones that are good are more expensive! Are there any service stores for the i phone? att stores have them...wait..no they turn you right around kick you out and have you call apple...thats fun...u cant insure your phone with att even tho your paying THEM for the service...u can go to the i phone store and they can send it out for repair..but ...there are like 4 apple stores nationwide...shall i continue? people cant look past one letter and open their minds to something like the droid..give it a chance and see....just like the saying goes..dont knock it till you ve tried it...and try you will my friends...its not that much heavier than the i phone...and its waaay more versitile...all im saying is have an open mind..vzw is like the yankees no one wants them to win but everyone watches to see whats next.. then when they win.. your a fan... if vzw had the i phone or if tmobile had the i phone.. youd be saying all this about att and vise versa.. i think the advertising is briliant...they are going after people who may not realize the coverage and they are making exciting things happen for people who cant get att service and were forced to buy an ipod touch an alternative...apple shot themselves in the foot by not allowing the i phone to be used on multiple networks and by the time it does happen.. no one will care... the industry is crazy ... i just cant wait until the i phone fanboys are all lined up at the apple store two years from now trying to fix their dead batteries... lmao..

I swear this is the dumbest site I have ever visited. I noted that the web page search results that it shows in the screen shotsl has links referring to the iPhone and yet the pictures are featuring an Android handset. PhoneArena, let me say this clearly so that you don't misunderstand... You are a bunch of faggots! I'm sorry if you scared that Android might beat out the iPhone someday but give it a rest. I'm sure iPhone will be around for as long as this earth is in one piece but stop with the iPhone biz already. I will admit it is a good device but it has its FAULTS by no means.
