We don’t know whether there’s a direct correlation between Apple’s stock price being on an upward run and the spike in iPhone rumors, but…

And in the end, we'll see another 3.5 incher...

To prevent app fragmentation, the only thing they can do is either keep the same 3.5 inch retina, or extend the screen without changing the pixels, thus forgoing the retina moniker, or perhaps Apple will have double standards again and still call it "retina" even with the decreased DPI just like they did with the new iPad

your right man, this is a tough one for the Iphone and Im sorry to say it but if they cant increase without any other side problems then its going to be a long year and half for apple, with all the Android competition out there...but lets not worry right now because WE DONT KNOW what apple is going to do and they might actually pull this one off and find away around the fragmentation problems...

3.5" is just fine for a phone and indeed the best size to use it effectively with a single hand. It is a smartPHONE, after all. If you need biggger - go for an iPad. I guess that soon there will be a new device. Basically iPhone should stay a phone. I and I welcome this. It is ridiculous to see a girl with a coffee tray like a Galaxy and trying to talk on it.

Absolutely! You believe as I do, that we all have the right to let Steve jobs make up our minds for us!

Sorry, but I think you're in the minority. Most iPhone users I know want a bigger screen. They don't want 5 inches, but they'd like about 4. Now, if Apple does what was shown, increase only one axis, the overall phone could remain the same size. But, I don't see them changing the aspect ratio, so probably not.

i agree with the galaxy being WAYY TOO BIG but there is most definitely a way to increase the size and still be comfortable! A four inch phone would be pretty much perfect for comfortablitly as well as watching vids and playing games on... so while the 3.5 in is OK for just being a "phone" there are wayy to many other areas that need to be filled in without over doing them.... Thats why if apple can pull off the 4 incher it will be a glorious day for them no doubt....

You do know there's more than one Galaxy right? By you saying coffee tray, I'm assuming you're talking about the Galaxy Note with the beautiful 5.3" screen. It is big, but you eventually get used to it. Anything under 4.3 is too small for me.

Man, by the way this article sounds, iphone is kind of stuck as to what its going to do... they cant play it safe and continue with that small screen but also dont want any other problems like framentation problems if they were to expand it to 4 inches! But again this is probably what "THIS" article in particular is coming about...dont know for sure what apple is going to bring but im pretty sure they're not unaware of what is expected to stay in the competition...

Lmao why not just add the extra .05 inch of screen??
Oh wait thats right apple would probably over charge you of that much screen

lol while being sarcastic, this is probably true, Apple is a bit pricey... :( dont want to start nothing but even the galaxy S3 is the same price as the IPHONE 4s 32gb,64gb if you get it on ebay and amazon and the S3 just came out!! so just imagine the iphone 5 with a larger display! They might just try and charge you more money, wich would be, in my opinion, lame :(

16x9 ... this is interesting.

If Apple had their way, I think they would want to keep the 3:2 ratio.

However, this may be a case of the display manufactures. Everything else is 16:9: TVs, monitors, other phones, other tablets. The display manufacturers could be telling Apple: 1. We can build 16:9 cheaper. 2. We are only going to offer you 16:9.

As far as applications. apps, could still be okay. The apps could just get centered leaving the edges black, leaving about a 1/4 inch on either side; folks will probably barely notice at these dimensions. The next iteration of the application could then account for the extra room. I don't see a huge rush for app developers to change their applications.

Regardless of if they change the screen size and aspect ratio, Apple is going to come up with some feature that is cool and makes a good commercial but no one ever uses (facetime & siri) and call it the best iphone ever and will sell like crazy. That is what happens every time. Look at the 4s. Apple is a marketing genius.

If Apple releases the i5 with less than a 4 inch screen size, my prediction is that you will see a slowing of Apple's smartphone market share growth. And that would be an opening for MS.

Hmmm... if this will be the case, has it occured to anyone that Apple will be actually removing physical Home button? It would use extra 176 pixels, which will also be backward compatible with older apps and give extra space for new apps and 16:9 video content...
We had a rumor (with photos) about physical home button for iPhone 5 but it's very old now and it could easily be wrong.

So, more like Galaxy Nexus/ICS - virtual Home button for older apps.

How's that sound?

The other scenario that I have been mentioning before is 1152x768 resolution, to keep 3:2 ratio and 329 PPI on a 4-incher.

We all know no matter how big the screen is or the resolution of it, every tech blog is going to praise the phone as if they cant believe no other phone manufactures thought to do it. a sub HD display will still be consider the greatest thing since slice bread, because of the PPi

"This elongated screen will allow Apple to add one more row of icons, so we have not four, but five of them." I've never seen so much excitement over an OS because of their ability to add icons to its app launcher. Let's hope Samsung, LG, and/or Sharp don't dissapoint when they build this screen.

Rumors about iphone 5 spread around.. some could be true while some could be wrong. The fact we know for sure is :
1. iphone 5 will be made by Apple
2. it will be more expensive than iphone 4S
3. it will be using iOS

Additional (this is IMO lol) :
1. it will be a "bit" overpriced, as usual (if you know what I mean)
1. the unsubsidized 32 GB version will be more expensive than the cheapest macbook air, perhaps (come on.. in my country iphone 4S 64 GB is around 1100$.. crap)

It's amazing to see all kinds of people that are so against one type of OS. Having used every OS out there they all have good and bad qualities. I think it would be smart for apple to have a larger screen because it might actually pull people from android who are still on the fence with their choice but they really don't need a bigger screen. Apple is doing just fine with the 3.5in display. I think where a company like Samsung goes wrong is with their commercials. Anytime you put your competition in your commercials you've already lost. There is a reason why apple stopped those Mac vs pc commercials. Just stick to making good quality phones and let that speak for itself. When you compare people to sheep it's not gonna make people leave apple for your company when there are more manufacturers that make android phones. Cut those stupid commercials

it is about balance, and a 4in phone is just enough to say "look whats new and better about the iphone" they will be able to say "now you can watch movies and play games with a broader view, and you can do so without leaving your comfort zone!" (which is the comfort of HOLDING the phone for awhile!) This i believe would get the users that are looking for something new in the iphone 5 but dont want to leave their comfort zone too much. It will satisfy the users that want a larger screen overall, and will ALSO even draw SOME android users that are already acustomed to 4inches and more!! if you do 4.3 it will be doing too much and will knock off the balance, most will shy away because its a BIG leap coming from a small 3.5 inches...The reason why it wont draw majority of android users is simply because of the OS android is alot less restricted and alot more customizable, and therfor IOS will have a HARD time convincing them otherwise... So All this too say a 4 inch upgrade is more of a necessity than a regular o
