I'm excited about WWDC next month.

I am too. Changees, even small ones, are almost always a good thing in the tech world. I'm looking forward to seeing what Apple brings to the table this year.

I don't think that Apple will be releasing/announcing the next iPhone at WWDC next month. I think that they've changed things up a bit and are going to be doing it in the fall because most of the main Android manufacturers are releasing their flagship devices during the summer and they don't really want to compete with them.

You have been waiting 5 years for a 4" non 4:3 display iPhone, I'd be exited to if I were iHerd.. 5 years is a long time! with each year bringing just a handful of improvements to a single phone line, that is supposed to somehow cater to millions?! :/ it's tough when the features you want don't make the apple cut and it's another year just to get disappointed once again... but hey, finally after 5 years apple might produce a industry standard 16:9 ratio with a decent sized screen. Bravo apple, bravo, welcome to android 3 years ago!

Business 101. Make a product that people want to buy. Then sell as many of them as possible.
Apple has sold 66 million iphones with a 3.5 inch screen over the past 6 months. Name one android phone that has sold over 20 million worldwide in the same time period. That would be none of them.

Who said anyone was waiting 5 years? Were G1 owners waiting too? You realize 3 years ago from this date the biggest screen available on an Android phone was 3.2 inches? It's saddening there are people this stupid on the internet.

Me too +1 Taco, I'm getting one of these iPhones, OH YES I AM!!! My RAZR will still remain my phone, but I'm getting one of these iPhone 5's....
I wanted to get an iPhone when they first came out, but I stalled a few years and then got the DROID 1...
Oh and the smaller connector at the bottom, it the new docking port they were rumoring about...
3. theoak (Posts: 324; Member since: 16 Nov 2011)
Check out the bottom connector!
MUCH smaller. I hope it is micro-USB.
9. Credo (Posts: 748; Member since: 19 Apr 2012)
yeah it looks like micro usb, well seee next monthh :)
13. lauremar (Posts: 181; Member since: 29 Feb 2012)
I doubt that it will be micro-USB... It will be a new smaller Apple proprietary connector.

Fake or testing models that are not final designs.

Looks like a small samsung. I guess its apple's turn to start "slavishly copying" samsung, eh taco?? :)
Anyways, bigger screen would always be appreciated, but i still wish they woulda went 4.3. Oh well, not like im gonna buy one anyways.. lol.
Welcome to android's mid grade ifans!!! :)

On this rare occasion, I must respectfully disagree with you, remix... but not completely. It looks close enough to the iPhone 4S that I distinctly recognize it as an iPhone. Yes there are changes to the design, so it is not exactly like the iPhone 4S, and the improvements are in a couple of key areas from what I am seeing... no more glass back (thank goodness... my sister-in-law will be relieved that she will not be breaking yet another glass back on her next iPhone), thinner bezel while retaining the traditional round Apple button, and the larger screen (at 4", it is now following in the footsteps of Samsung and HTC in terms of the mega-screen-size trend since 2009... but one must still acknowledge the Apple iPhone roots of the trend for capacitive screens larger than 3" on a smartphone in 2007... and then one must acknowledge LG for the capacitive screen on the Prada in 2006... and from there it is a veritable blood-bath of acknowledgment back to who-knows-what, so why bother going there in the first place?). The back has a new design and new materials, of course, but the front looks fairly similar, just with a reduced bezel and a larger screen. As for the smaller port, well, if Apple wants it to be proprietary so they can keep on making money on total ecosystem hardware incompatibility, then it will not be microUSB no matter what anyone else thinks. I will be hugely surprised if it is microUSB, and at this point I don't think it is, anyway. In all honesty, this looks like it will be, at least tangible-hardware-wise, a more solid iPhone than before, despite retaining many clear Apple-esque traditional forms which retain clear recognition of this device as an iPhone.
As for iOS 6, which will inevitably launch with this, well... who knows? Widgets? Maybe? I won't be getting one anyway (and not just because I am too poor to be an Apple-elitist), but one can still dream of the possibilities, can they not?
19. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
id be surprised on the MicroUSB as well if that became reality. Apple likes to price gouge and have proprietary accessories way too much to use a standard jack.
As far as the design goes. yea, you can still tell its an apple, but if you take away the circular button and put a square one, or just a row of capacitive buttons, it looks like a shrunken SGS2 hercules/skyrocket. Since you couldnt say the same thing previously with the hercules/skyrocket vs the iphone4S, the design is definitely leaning towards samsung more than it should.... IF that's the design at all.
I like the possibilities because I like competition, regardless if I like the competitor or not.

it doesn't really look THAT different from the 4S so you better be careful remixfa or it might start to sound like you're saying Samsungs like the ones you mentioned look a lot like the iPhone. xD
178. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
no, it looks like a samsung, not the reverse. :)
The design language has changed slightly and it resembles a phone that is launched months before it. there for the iphone looks like the samsung.
187. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
so you're saying it's changed SO MUCH that it's gone from a phone that looked nothing like a Samsung to a phone that actually really resembles a Samsung? :P

Widgets are never going to be used on an iPhone. They are contradictory to iOS philosophy - they are graphically inconsistent, and also unpredictable in terms of draining system resources. There is maybe a third option which has yet to be invented. What do you think?
BTW this design here is celary not Apple's - I have measured the proportions and rules of shaping every ipHone - Apple is very strict about that and this example of alleged parts shows inconsistency with that even on a first look. For instance, camera was allways equidistant from horizontal and vertical edge of the phone - now it's just non-proportionally "moved away" to make room for larger screen. And so on... many flaws that Apple would never let itself.
26. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
if they dont go with widgets, they may go with some form of metro-ui live tile rip off, since its more aesthetically similar to their icons.
I have no idea about the whole second part. It makes sense as far as their positioning as many high brand products are that peculiar, but im not gonna measure it, so i'll just trust ya on that. :)

The more I look at it, the more it's fake. Now I see problems with logo and typography.
First of all, they are too close to each other (Apple logo and "iPhone" title with standard info) and too far from edges of the phone - they were allways the same from 1st gen iPhone. Now they will change it. It doesn't look graphically good either to justifiy it - it's more like amateur's work.
Secondly, on this part they are using light version of their "iPhone" type instead of Bold type (Minion Pro Bold).
This would also be the first time after they were using Bold version it consistently ever since first iMac in 1998...
And BTW, it's not microUSB port...
check this out (and other stuff too)

No, I meant "clearly" but I couldn't go back to edit anymore...

What is to say that they don't depart in order to incorporate some new feature that needs a different geometry to be present? Can they really be considered flaws if it is done properly? It has always seemed to me that Apple has a very high incidence of pan-corporate OCD, but who is to say that they cannot overcome that in order to improve a product in the future?
42. AppleConspiracy (Posts: 637; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
The design of Apple products is very strict and maybe the most rigorous element of their production - everything must be symmetrical and distanced in whole numbers - this will they never let no matter what technologal excuse they could have.
If you are familiar with Jony Ive's approach to design - you should be very aware that he would not let this happen.
PS - now i wonder why it has 3.5 mm headphone jack on bottom....
