Paul Bernhardt from BlackBerry's Developer Relations team announced that BlackBerry World now has a “Gamepad Compatible” category. From now on, games in BB's app store that have gamepad compatibility will be found within this category.

Perhaps the company's love for physical buttons has manifested in its recent push for developers to make more controller-compatible games. On top of its already-existent Gamepad API, last December BlackBerry started offering free MOGA Pro and SteelSeries controllers for BB 10 game developers. The free gamepads are to aid them in building full controller support into their games before they go on sale. This offer will last until February 24.

So, what choice do you have if you want to play up and coming BlackBerry games with a gamepad? Currently, owners of BB Z10, Z30, Q10, and Q5 smartphones that run BB 10.1 or later can use the following Bluetooth controllers: MOGA Pro (read our review), MOGA Hero Power, and MOGA Pro Power; the SteelSeries mobile wireless controller; Gametel's Bluetooth gamepad; and the Nintendo Wii-mote.

Owners of the Z30 with BB 10.2 installed can use various USB-controllers via a Micro USB to USB 2.0 adapter. Also, the Gamepad API has native support for Logitech's F310 pad, Microsoft's Xbox 360 Controller, and the Razer Sabertooth. Which means any games that can utilize external controllers should adapt to these pads from the get-go.
