New baseband for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III may improve signal strength

A new leaked Baseband has it the web, version I535VRLHD. At this early stage, little is know about it, except that it came from Samsung, and is again supposed to help with signal reception on the Galaxy S III and may provide better voice quality as well.

Does anyone know why most Samsung phones seem to have an issue with signal? What is it that they do that not make them work as well as most other manufacturers? A phone should be a phone first of all, so I don't know why manufacturers don't spend more on the radios, etc.....

They mostly work fine. You can always make good better, but there haven't been any huge outcries about poor signal.

Agreed. It's only handful of people that had signal issues in fringe areas. Their GSM variants on AT&T, Tmo have far less signal issues despite having nearly the exact same hardware as the verizon one. The only main difference is the radio softwares, so any glitches should be fixable via software update.

Their GSM/HSPA+ phones are fine for the most part. It's only CDMA phones in US carriers they often struggle with signal reception. Also they need better cooperation with Verizon/Sprint to develop reliable radio firmwares, RIL softwares for CDMA radios.
On the other hand, Moto is getting better support from Verizon on developing radio softwares. that's why their verizon phones have typically less signal issues. It's not just their antenna hardware.

Exactly. I had the Sprint GS2 and had tons of signal issues, while my friend who had a Motorola Sprint phone, had barely any(if any at all)
I also had signal issues on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, where people in my area had no issues with the Samsung Droid Charge.
I am on AT&T with the SGS3 and have very strong signal in all my areas. I rarely ever leave 4G, unless I go too far out in the boonies and it usually comes right back instantly with 3-4 bars.
I have no doubt that it is a CDMA issue. My co-worker has the Verizon SGS3 and had issues with keeping a connection with LTE here in the building. It keeps going back down to 3G with only one bar. My device keeps a healthy 4-5 bars at all times.
And in my work area we usually have a very strong Verizon coverage as well.

One of the main concerns about getting the Samsung phones is their radio issues. Samsung tends to have weaker reception compared to Motorola/Nokia/Sony, but at the same time they also have lower SAR numbers (which is better).

Maybe they need to send this out to ALL their CDMA phones, especially the S-GN...terrible.

Apparently you haven't been to XDA forum (talks about radio problems) much.
It works fine if you stand outside without trees/building/ are anything else that don't block your line of sight.
Go inside your screw, and as long as people don't complain the longer this problem will presist.
I compare my S-GN to S-GS2 and the S2 catch signal, was as the Nexus do not, including wifi; so yea it's a problem for those who brought this product like myself.

i sure have had several issues, im on verizon and although my samsung droid charge works fine the galaxy s3 drops call, people can understand me and visa versa, bad signal, i have has 3 replacement and its on its way back to samsung for the second time, says no mobile data connection, i cant even make a call, most call i get go to voice mail

People just like to complain many friends of mine have the s3 including me it isn't as wide spread as you think we all have no problems with it

Can Samsung must send over the air Software or Firmware update to all Galaxy S3 to resolve this signal strength issue.

Baseband refers to the Radio/Modem version of the phone. Which is a very small component of a firmware.
Firmware refers to the whole update.
For Samsung Phones, A firmware normally consists of 3 parts:
PDA: The firmware itself. It is the operating system with its programs and settings included.
PHONE: This is required to access some part of the hardware specific for phone function. This is the radio/modem of the phone. It is responsible for Network signal, Data connection. etc
CSC (Consumer Software Customisation): are the regional settings applied which may install additional programs as well as provider-specific settings (APN).
So, the word baseband, is technically not correct in this case.
A new software update/patch/firmware is much better.
You guys need to be closer to the Android community.

Yes, I understand there are different parts, but this post is about updating just the Baseband Radio Modem file to the newest I535VRLHD version. The I535VRALG7 OTA Update was the first update sent out by Verizon two weeks ago that updated the Baseband, Kernel, and other files all together to G7. If you install the I535VRLHD Baseband Modem as listed above, it will not change the Kernel or other files, just the Baseband Radio software.

I keep hearing about Samsung and connection problems. I guess I am lucky. I have G7 and no real connection problems. I have had several smart phones. Audiovox, Motorola, Blackberry and HP WebOS just to name a few. I travel between 3 counties almost daily and my GS 3 has as good or better than any of the other phones. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Sorry, I missed a step. Added it above and is in BOLD.
You have to place the phone into "Download Mode" by powering it off first. Then press and hold the volume down button, home button, and power button all at the same time. Read the on-screen warning and press the volume up button to continue. Then open the ODIN program, and connect the phone. ODIN should then show it connected on a COM Port. Follow the rest of the steps listed above for installing the new baseband in the PDA section of ODIN.

Is anyone else having problems with this baseband? I just flashed it and now im getting a notification saying "battery disconnected" when I charge the S3...but it will go away after a while and still show charging.

Flashed it, not better at all, if not worse.
Btw Download mode = Restart then hold home + power + vol down.

I was noticing the decrease in data speed myself I just thought maybe it needed some time to settle now it seems my data speed has roughly a 10-12mbps fluctuation as suppose to before of only like 5-8mbps.

I did not know the Samsung Galaxy S3 had a signal and voice problem. So glad I read that because I had planned on getting one the first of the year. So now , I surely don't want it . Why ? Because I still make phone calls and my cell phone is my only phone. So , connection , reception , and voice quality must be top notch
I will get the Motorola Razr Maxx HD instead. Motorola has never failed in these.
