New Year rings in with the iPhone 3G unlocked for some, frustration for others
The Dev-Team introduced yellowsn0w, the first program designed to unlock Apple's device. The latest release is 0.9.4, which is still considered a beta version. Early reports from those unlocking their phone have been positive although there had been stories of problems getting yellowsn0w to work.

Have you set your iPhone free? Are you planning to unlock your phone? Tell us all about it. However, keep in mind it is a beta and might not work for all.

Heard mixed reviews of it. Some people it seems to be working fine and others are having problems. I would wait but it's good news things are moving along, it's been quite a wait.

whats the point of unlocking the the i phone 3g besides the minimal cosmetic differences its only the 3g signal (which u cant use on tmo or any gsm network) that make it different from the 1st gen iphone

The sole purpose of unlocking it is to use it on another GSM network. Jailbreaking is what allows you to change the UI theme and add other 3rd party apps not in the app store.

I agree, especially when if done incorectly you can lock your phone up for good. Noone wants an iPhone brick.
