New SMS scam snares 10 unwitting victims

If someone sent you an SMS message threatening to harass you unless you repaid money from illegal loan sharks, what would you do? Suppose you never did borrow money from a loan shaek, would you feel threatened enough to pay up? Ten people received such a text message and paid the money even though the majority never dealt with any loanshark...

Aint that a shame... smh people will do anything for money, but I know if I or anyone in my family got a message like this we would s**t bricks! Thanks for always keepong us updated with valuable news PA

Such a threat is only effective if there's a reasonable chance that my identity can be traced through my mobile number. We're not quite there in the States (which is why people hide behind their cell phone numbers when giving digits to strangers).
Still, you can never tell, so..
GIve me your wallets and all of your valuables. If you don't I'll splash paint on your house, kidnap your pets, and all sorts of insidious things.

"PLEASE sir, I have sold all my teeth to ivory dealers, just give me another week!"
"I sold all my blood and s**** and almost have the money, just a few more days!"
"I am now prostituting my wife and children, YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY!!!!"
