I do like the phone, but I don't think a Razr with a keyboard is necessary. There will always be a desire for a physical keyboard for text messaging teens, but all touchscreen phones just seem better to me, larger screen and thinner profile. Besides I actually type much faster on flex t9 than the keyboard on my old ally.

What's with the tumbs downs?? I didn't insult anything haha

Don't worry about it, some people on this site don't need a reason...
8. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5691; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
who are you to say that a Razr w/ a keyboard isn't necessary? for some people like me a Razr w/ a keyboard is JUST what we need. i can type much faster on my Droid 3's keyboard than i can on any virtual keyboard.

Have you tried typing in a remote desktop via VPN????
How handy is the extra keyboard, especially when you are in a hurry trying to fix a problem remotely!!
11. MalakiMills (Posts: 257; Member since: 15 Jun 2010)
haha It was a personal opinion about why I don't need one. I don't give a damn about why it's wrong to you. Merely letting phone arena know what I thought like it said in the post. Post your sh*t in a seperate comment instead of coming after me. Besides I didn't even say it was bad I just said I don't need it, f*ck off. haha
14. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5691; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
you didn't say a Razr w/ a keyboard isn't necessary to you you said a Razr w/ a keyboard isn't necessary. you asked why all the thumbs down and i answered you.

King, read his comment again. He clearly expressed that he didn't think it was necessary, not that all people think it's unnecessary.
I don't believe MalakiMills deserved for his original content to be flagged or for him to get such a negative reaction for posting what seemed like a reasonable opinion based on his experience.
Who are we to define what constitutes an acceptable opinion? It is a community in which every individual has the privilege of sharing their thoughts and the responsibility of doing so in a reasonable manner. Attacking one of the community when they are abiding by these unsaid principles is unwarranted.

clearly you're the one that needs to read what he said. he did say that he didn't think it was necessary but he didn't specify to what end so the quickest way to interpret it is that he meant the keyboard wasn't necessary in general. that's how i've interpreted it and that's how enough of the others have interpreted it for it to close my case. i might would have apologized by now if i wasn't convinced that the others have interpreted the same way i have, in fact this whole thing wouldn't have started if he didn't ask why his post garnered so much negativity.
Penny, Penny, Penny...you should see how hypocritical you sound. if taco had come in here and said Android wasn't necessary you would have jumped down his throat as fast as anybody. are you drawing a line at the magnitude of the opinion now or have you just created a biased opinion and you refuse to take a look at where plenty of other people are standing on this? you know as well as i do that here every opinion is debated, every statement questioned. why do you deny it?
25. Penny (Posts: 1615; Member since: 04 Feb 2011)
In an article about a device that is likely to have a QWERTY keyboard, stating the opinion that smartphones are better off without keyboards is a relevant one, in my opinion. If he just stopped there, then I would have been more inclined to agree with you. However, he did go on to qualify his opinion by expressing the personal experiences that factored into his opinion. My point is that while I may disagree with his opinion, I do not see it as unreasonable or offensive given his personal experiences.
As far as Taco and others like him are concerned, I always avoided getting into flame wars that have no point. I am not afraid to get into arguments about the specific points or opinions if I feel they are worth debating, but I would rather convince somebody that there are other valid opinions as well than tell them they are wrong when dealing with subjective issues such as this. In short, no, I would not have jumped down his throat as fast as anybody, and you can feel free to find all of my previous comments if you wish to see that.
As far as my opinion being biased, I actually disagree with MalakiMills here. Whatever form factor I may prefer, having options is a good thing. I understand the upsides of not having a keyboard, and yet I like and still type better with them. I have my opinions on most things, just like everybody else, but I try not to perceive reality through the filters of my biases.
Every opinion is open to debate, but I think it was that first statement that you made in response to him "Who are you to say that a Razr w/ a keyboard isn't necessary..." that provoked me to respond to you, because I feel it was an unjustified attack.
26. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5691; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
and i informed him why myself and many others in this thread believe physical keyboards do have a place in the world. he still made the same point even though he did explain why he made it. people disagreed with it, he asked why, i told him. that's it. if you want to interpret my response as an "attack" then whatever, i don't care because it was prompted by his poor choice of words.
i never said he was wrong on a personal stand point because his statement didn't appear to create one. i explained to him that keyboards are still necessary. that's completely contrary to what he said.
i am an aggressive debater however my question to him was justified due to the imprecise statement he made. he clearly needed to know that his opinion was offensive because he asked.

He was posting an opposing view of the product decribed in this article. "Merely letting phone arena know what [he] thought". If you can't take directed criticism, stay away from the comments.
16. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5691; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
and i was merely responding to his question of why people are opposing his opinion. since when are opinions around here not debated by others with different opinions? it seems to me that a majority of the people in this thread interpreted his statement in much the same way i did so i explained it to him. if he didn't ask why then i would've just thumbed him down because of my difference in opinion and that would've been that. if you can't take a difference in opinion then maybe YOU should stay away from the comments. you yourself are known for debating one's opinion every now and then roldefol.

I've always found one problem with touch-only input. My fingers. The bastards just aren't see through. Doesn't matter what kind of super-duper display they give me when I'm looking at the back of my knuckles. I already know what they look like.
Sure, bigger screens can help, but at the end of the day I want a pocket-able mobile phone.

Sorry, but I disagree. I'm one of the few who prefer if his touch screen phones have a keyboard attached to it. Yes, touch screen phones are sleeker and while virtual keyboards are fine for some, others, like myself, just prefer the physical feel of a keyboard. And yes, I have owned an all touchscreen phone before, but with my current phone, I honestly feel that once you go touchscreen + physical keyboard, there's no going back.

BIG DEAL...LOOKS LIKE ALL THE OTHER DROIDS THAT CAME OUT BEFORE IT
5. snowgator (Posts: 3504; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
And the Droid series will continue to be the trendsetter for all other keyboard carrying phones to follow. This is a beauty
7. Penny (Posts: 1615; Member since: 04 Feb 2011)
Not sure if it would be considered the trendsetter as many people swear by Blackberry keyboards, but the design is beautiful. Now if they put some Blackberry-style keys on the slide-out keyboard of this phone...
13. roldefol (Posts: 4097; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
...then it would be too thick to be called a DROID.
17. Penny (Posts: 1615; Member since: 04 Feb 2011)
It could still be thinner than the OG Droid, but yeah, Blackberry keys would require more depth.

Meet the new HDMI port, same as the old USB port.
12. Joshing4fun (Posts: 1211; Member since: 13 Aug 2010)
I don't think keyboards are needed for anything with a screen bigger than 4 inches.
19. doubleD (Posts: 78; Member since: 13 Dec 2010)
Besides the preference by some for the physical keyboard for data entry, Another advantage for a physical keyboard that is often overlooked, is the ability to utilize your screen real estate. Virtual keyboards take up half the screen when being used.
20. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5691; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
exactly, that's a big thing with me especially when typing long paragraphs.
24. naga.appani (Posts: 36; Member since: 26 Nov 2011)
Amazing... This phone will steal the thunder

My little Eris has served me well when newer handsets have failed me. Looks like it may finally be time to retire Twiki when the D4 comes out.

I think its obvious that the reason why its gonna be a while til it gets released, is ICS. Can't see why not it wont have ICS to begin with.
