A number of our readers have been keeping our mailbox busy with news of a new Android 4.4.2 update. The over-the-air patch is apparently rolling out for all Nexus devices, including even the Nexus 7 2014, less than a week after Android 4.4.1 started making the rounds...

Forever stuck on 4.2.2 on my Galaxy Nexus.... I would get a new phone but then I'd have to sacrafice my unlimited data... sigh... why do I keep reading these articles, all they do is make me sad?

Why would you have to sacrifice anything career related if you bought a Nexus 5?

Trust me, there's not a great difference in daily use between 4.2.2 and 4.4 (which I now have on the N7). And at least a couple of years will pass before apps will start requiring 4.3 or higher.

Carry an extra line with a feature phone activated on it, yearly subsidized upgrades for only $120/yr + tax/fees.

I moved from a Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 5. For me, the 2.5GB I get on t-mobile is enough so data wasn't an issue. What I like is the screen size, the speed, and the feel of the back of the naked phone. 4.4 is nice but I could have lived without it.

Can't you just root your phone? I'm running CM 11 (4.4.1) on my Galaxy Nexus and you're not missing much. While 4.4.1 is a nice visual change, the abundance of white can't be good for our batteries, so I'll prolly switch back to CM 10.2 after a while.

It pushed to my Nex10 but I didn't install it yet. Does it kill root?

One other change I noticed is that the Location on the Power Control widget is now a three way toggle - off, battery saving, GPS - which is nice for switching between the latter two without going to Settings.

Yesterday evening I noticed the note on my Nexus 7 2012 about the 4.4.2 update over its 4.4. Unfortunately, nothing that I can tell, other than Photo+ showing up as an app without my downloading it, IIRC, so I assume that it's part of the update. Too bad that the launcher is still Jelly Bean's.

I updated my Nexus 7 (2013) to 4.2.2 today and have a keyboard sound that I can't figure out how to turn off. All obvious setting show no sound on keyboard. It's annoying. I know I'm typing; everybody else doesn't need to know. If anyone has the same issue and figures it out, please post.
