New ARM Mali-450 GPU to bring enhanced graphics performance to smartphones on a budget

0. phoneArena posted on 13 Jun 2012, 05:43

The chip designers from ARM don't sit still, even though they've cornered almost the entire mobile market. Today they lifted the veil over the Mali-450 graphics processor, which at the same clock speeds will be twice faster than the Mali-400, that is in the Samsung Galaxy S II, since it will have eight instead of four cores...

If this GPU is on the galaxy s4....
OMG.

No.. I think Galaxy S IV will packed with Exynos 5250 CPU + Mali T604 GPU together with HD SAMOLED+ and 2 GB RAM.. lol

Re-read the article. Mali-450 is geared towards the "volume market", i.e. more budgety phones. Flagship phones, like Galaxy S4 and Note2 should expect Mali-T6xx series.

Probably it's Galaxy Note 10.1's GPU.
That's great but I expected Mali-604T more.

wow, they have a whole Viking legends thing going on. mali, skyrymir, midguard. :)

Flagships are going mali 6xx. this is for midgrade phones. Thats awesome, as its one heck of a processor. the bad news is, that means that the OC'ed mali400 in the SGS3 is going to be considered "midgrade" soon. Which is also kinda neat since its top of the pile right now.

Yes.. But i do think that the upcoming iPhone will regain its top spot on GPU department (PowerVR543MP2).. Then the Galaxy S4 will beat it again, and the cycle goes on..
GPU is a two man horse right now, it's either Galaxy S series or iPhone.. with Tegra 3 on the 3rd spot only because of their Tegra games optimization..
I'm starting to think that Galaxy S III was just an incredimental upgrade to S II, and the Galaxy S IV will be the real deal.

The overclocked Mali 400MP in Galaxy S3 beats the iPhone 4S SGX543MP2 and the future iPhone 5 SGX543MP2, I doubt they need a more powerful GPU Apple. Plus they wouldn't care if they took the lead anyways.

The Adreno 320 is a beast though, similar performance to SGX543MP4. GLBenchmark shows it all.

Don't get me wrong, i already knew that SGS III's OC'ed Mali 400 GPU already bested the iPhone 4s' PowerVR GPU, but what i was just saying is Apple could easily overclocked it & call it a day.

Ss can overclock their SoC but still increase the power-efficient by 20%, while the opposite thing is not true when Apple wanna oc their gpu.

This will be good for the next galaxy note. Nokia is also a very big ARM fan and use the ARM 11 in so many phones. I think its time for them to use the mali 450 instead of the broadcom gpus they use but i doubt it and ad far as i can see Samsung is the top potential customer

But..... Can it run Crysis?

Budget Phones still use the Adreno 200..
Please someone launch a decent GPU to replace that age old Adreno 2000
