New 5800 XpressMusic firmware improves the performance
We have just learned that Nokia has released firmware v30.0.011 for the first touchscreen-mounting S60 smartphone, the 5800 XpressMusic. While new goodies seem to be hard to come by with the new update, it looks like more stability has been added to the operating system. As a whole, the device has reportedly become more responsive and RAM-optimized, so that running a large number of applications simultaneously should not be a problem. Well, kinetic scrolling and updated homescreen don’t seem to be on the list but we hope they will make their way to the device with the next update.

I installed the firmware update yesterday, and it's definitely improved the overall performance. Scrolling around a webpage is smoother, and navigating the menu is faster - especially my apps folders, which have large numbers of apps, widgets and games. Now for v31, with kinetic scrolling!

I had read somewhere that I think you had to power down your 5800 and then power it up again and the email widget for the homescreen would show up in the list. I'm not sure if that's the homescreen thing you're talking about though.
