NYT isn't worth it. There are plenty of other free new sites that give equal or even better reporting. Not to mention, NYT makes it extremely difficult to unsubscribe from their digital paper. My grandfather recently wanted to cancel his subscription and finally had to just call up his credit card company just to cancel it.

In 10, 20, 30? years from now, do you think there will be paper news delivered to your house still or able to be purchased from gas stations and what not..? Or will it all be digital?

Just put some banner ads up like everybody else. Support advertising and make it better. The more views that go into it the better it can be made. Support the web's ecosystem. Nobody wants to pay for content.
Your site looks boring as hell with no banners anyway!
