NVIDIA says Tegra 3 does work with LTE modems, project Stark will be 25 times as powerful

0. phoneArena posted on 01 Aug 2012, 03:32

The Wayne chip next year will be twice faster than Tegra 3 and have integrated Icera 410 LTE modems, while project Grey afterwards will have the more advanced Icera 500 LTE modems in it...

Sounds like they got Ironman to help them build a new chip :)

What could we possibly do with 25x the power of the Tegra 3?

5. dsDoan posted on 01 Aug 2012, 05:22 5

Better games? That is Tegra's market, after all. You have to remember that mobile chips are nowhere near the power of PC chips. A quadcore mobile processor will get destroyed by a PC quadcore processor clocked at the same speed. 25x the Tegra 3 is a step in bringing mobile power closer to true PC power.

i really hope that you are joking.bro at the very least how about think about if a chip is more powerfull or just better in any way you can make the chip be as fast as a chip now but use less power so you can expect that performance to do somthing thats just as important wich is battery life.brother

Something like Crysis 3
which sadly is the last high end game from Crytek, afterward the company will turn into Free2Play

Awesome...25x of tegra3 power huh...I look forward to run a usable version of ubuntu on my phone (Galaxy Note).

Even if there's a chip 25x the power of Tegra3 right now, the performance of your Note-running-Ubuntu will not change.

Soon our laptops / desktops (if they wasn't replaced by tablets yet ) will be powered by stark tegra 3

Nope. Intel chips < Exynos and Apple-designed ARM-chips

Wait....so if the Wayne Chip is named after Bruce Wayne, and Project Stark is Tony Stark......is Project Grey, named after Jean Grey, or the Christian Grey?

12. artiskig posted on 01 Aug 2012, 12:58 1

...or Sasha Grey.

13. dmckay12 posted on 01 Aug 2012, 23:02

Pretty sure it is after Jean Grey.

This sounds awesome and all, but in my opinion it won't be a good thing... Battery-life on these newer processors (tegra 3, Snapdragon S4) are already somewhat lacking, and with nvidia's stark or Wayne processors it looks like phones will be lasting 5 hours with low use :/.... iMO most companies that specialize in mobile tech need to hunker down and solve the issue of power before anything else. If we keep quadrupling processing capabilities every year but keep battery tech the way it is the next generation of phones will seriously suffer.

Nobody really asked for a phone as fast as a super computer, but a hell of a lot of people (myself included) have asked for a phone that runs amazingly (like with current tegra 3 devices), and last days on end without the need for a recharge.

Strap a solar panel on the back of phones, or add motion based generators (like the ones used on watches), or anything!

Battery is the new rival people! processor technology can stay where it is for a while, focus on better battery tech! Whats the fun of an awesome phone if you can only use it 5 hours before a recharge?
