NVIDIA prepping its own tablet powered by NVIDIA Tegra 5?

0. phoneArena 08 Aug 2013, 12:21 posted on

Chip maker NVIDIA is said to be looking beyond slinging silicon, to enter the highly competitive tablet with its own slsate; expected not to see the light of day until early 2014, the high-end NVIDIA tablet would be powered by the company's next-gen NVIDIA Tegra 5 SoC which currently has the code name "Logan"...

LOL... the Tegra 4 has really been turned into a joke!

Tetra 4 is not a joke- it beats the snapdragon 800 in benchmarks, its just not widely used.

Tetra 5 is nvidia's baby, they have been talking about it since the tegra 4 was announced. It will incorporate kepler, which according to anandtech will have revolutionary gpu performance (almost 5x snapdragon 800s).

I for one am ecstatic about the tegra 5 simply because of Kepler.

Also, nVidia has said it will license out the Kepler technology, so it is possible to see a Kepler GPU on another chipset.

I wish Samsung would use it for their Exynos chipset. In the past, Exynos chipsets have had the processing power but have lacked somewhat in the GPU department.

Nvidia would never let them put it in their chipsets. If they wanted to use a nvidia gpu it would be separate from the cpu.

Once again, nVidia is licensing out the Kepler technology to those who want to use it. So, if Samsung wanted to use the technology for their GPU then they could if they paid whatever price nVidia is charging for the licensing fee.

I don't think nVidia is going to pick and choose who is going to get Kepler and who isn't. The whole reason behind licensing out the technology is so that they can make more money and possibly have more devices using their technology than if they were to just to try to market their Tegra line of chipsets to manufacturers.

Let's talk about releasing Tegra 5 when Tegra 4 isn't available yet.

Nvidia logic is non existent.

Probably because the Tegra 4 bombed and won virtually no major designs. They're probably going to try to toss it under the carpet as quietly as it can and hype the crap out of Tegra 5.

While its still going to use ARM's a15 cores probably, at least it'll finally have a mobile GPU that should keep up with if not comfortably glide past PowerVR and Adreno as a selling point.

they'er talking about tegra 5 because its the latest technology nvidia has, doesnt mean tegra 4 bombed it cant bomb if its not released yet you have to remember nvidia let snapdragon take the lead this year every phone is a replica of itself since they all have a dragon in it you'll see the difference when T4 walks in the door. The bench marks are real I cant wait to see the HTC legend and ZTE geek.

That would be good for nvidia to push its kepler chips fo every device maker out there even if T4 doesnt get the fan base it deserves people will eventually join especially when their chip has better benchmarks. Since everything is about that these days.

Nvidia has really strong chip design engineering. I wish they would just dump the inferior ARM architecture for their chips and develop x86 based ones to compete with intel and AMD. If they mixed their graphics tech with x86 based chips they would have a power chip that would compete far better than Tegra.

I had a Tegra 2 and 3 ( Acer A500 , LG 4X HD , Htc One X+ ), I am very disappointed, except glare nothing else to see, the battery lasts a couple of hours. Never again !!

Tegra 3 on N7 is okay but not the best. 4.3 made it faster. Snapdragons and Exynos are the way to go.

any octo core chip that gets beat by a quad core or a dual core is embarrassing to even have a chip with those specs. lol snapdragon benchmarks are greathttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pF4G2k6NEk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
watch this nvidia shield if you dont believe the specs.

Till then be ready for snapdragon 1000, Krait 500, Adreno 430.....whatever

I don't think anyone or any manufacturer isn't taking NVIDIA seriously anymore since they delay their own chip and their own SHIELD android portable gaming conosle. SNAP DRAGON is the future here and now.

Unless nvidia makes a complete soc with integrated radio...they will face tough competition...big reason OEM prefer snapdragon is because it has everything on one chip and of course low power consumption due to custom core design.

Krait 400 is still significantly slower than A15. The tegra 4 is beating it in almost every benchmark at 400mhz less.

And that's why A15 core consumes more power than krait 400...and this is only reason why OEM avoid to use it.

For 7-inch HD tablets, I think its either Snapdragon or the new Mediatek chip MT8135, because its very cheap and one of the best!

Funny how people love adreno nowadays. Before, it was considered a joke and inferior to mali and powervr.

you are so right....now everybody wants adreno....or almost everybody...

they wanted it because nvidia and intel aren't dropping any new chip at the time the s800 and s600 was out.
