Munster: Apple iPad Air could set new launch weekend sales mark, topping 3 million units
0. phoneArena 03 Nov 2013, 12:54 posted on
Sometime tomorrow, Apple will be releasing figures revealing the number of its new Apple iPad Air that were sold on the tablet's launch weekend; with a lighter, smaller form factor and a bump up in specs, it is estimated by Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster that Apple could top the record opening weekend sales figure for its tablets...

Apple gets their launches right unlike some other mfg..google/Microsoft I'm looking at you.
With that being said I don't find this air as appealing as I did when the ipad 4 came out.

All Apple does is push many units to the retailer and claim 10M sold, when quarter result comes out, the real number reflects (20M for the whole quarter)

So true... iPads sold approximately the same amount this year as last. No year on year growth but every time we hear new records with each iteration so how come iPads sold the same amount this year as last?
All hype with Apple...

So the #1 selling tablet is still the #1 selling tablet. Got it.

All hate with you. Let apple make their billions, and you log on to complain about it. Sounds like a typical fanboy hater to me.

Shipped is not sold. These are two different terms.
Apple is a publicly traded company and has to follow SEC guidelines, mainly Reg SX and others.
The PROBLEM is it's the ANALYSTS making these claims since Apple is so tight-lipped, and readers don't fully understand this situation.

not at all surprising, even low sounding. Remember, these aren't new iClones, they are the existing iClones looking to add their 3rd iPad, soon to be 2nd mini along with their 7 iPods, and 4 iPhones all in less than a decade and all basically the same as the first iDevice they bought, oh ya, sorry a wee bit faster and thinner..., those iFollowers likes them same ol products, different year for high, high prices!! lol iClones make up 85% of apple's business, the same 50 million own all 700 million iDevices

You make it sound like any OEM could come out with a retina display tablet using 64-bit processor with 10-hour battery life all while weighing about 1 pound.
MicroSoft came out with the original tablet and that product didn't gain traction the same way the iPad opened new markets. People aren't buying laptops or net books because of the iPad type tablets.

It's really simple to see if this guy is on the mark. I just went to apple.com and checked for local availability. All the stores around me in the LA area have them in stock and the website lists the 16gb silver as ready to ship within 24 hours. This was 6:30 pm on Sunday night. So either they didn't sell that many or they ordered too much. I tend to believe people aren't in that much of a rush to get one as this was the first time that two days after launch you could waltz in to an apple store and pick up the cheapest model without any problems.

Seriously, even though they will do well, this Munster guy needs to take it down a notch. He has been dead wrong for the last forever and keeps trying to tell everyone that Apple will rule the world. He needs to come to terms with the fact that he will now never break even on this stocks and that no matter how much he crows, no one is going to magically start purchasing Apple stock en masse to help him finally make a profit.

I am doing VERY well with the stock along with Carl Ichan, and I am VERY happy both with new Iphone 5s and Ipad Air.
Copies are good for little people

FF why do you dislike apple so much dude? Not bashing, but asking an honest question.

Why were the Romans disliked by so many? (Celts, Egyptians, Greeks, Huns, Persians, Israelis, etc.)
"The Romans were a formidable force, their army the ultimate fighting force. naturally, having conquered most of the known world they made a lot of enemies."
Apple is a formidable and exalted force, their fans the ultimate supporters. Having conquered most of the known world, they enticed a lot of enemies.
FF and many others are envious "enemies" of the successful and exalted Apple.

Don't you know their self made history is not even a century?
So please don't put their names among such great countries.

People who know their history understand Israel was founded after WWII and was immediately attacked by the surrounding Arab nations.
26. ardent1 (Posts: 1968; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
Sauce, you are wrong about Persians. The Persians hated the Macedonians and the ancient Greeks, but not the Romans.
If you remember your history, Alexandar the Greek conquered Persia and ended their Empire. Therefore, the Romans faced a different enemy that occupied modern day Iraq & Iran.

Conquered? They are losing market share ...

Well first, that comment is about its stock not Apple directly. And its based more on Apple's announced plan to buy back stock first and foremost up to I think it was $30 billion by 2015. So it isn't going to go up for a while but will fall mainly as Apple just keeps it steady. In November 2014 when all of Apple new products are out, we might see some gain but that remains to be seen how bad the stock gets hit this year (they focused all products in winter, so the rest of the year will seem kind of bad in comparison to last and speculators will do what they do). So all of that is just financials, nothing to do with hate. Will it reach over 700, tough to say, it was overvalued at that price anyway.
Second, I don't like Apple right now because they are hell bent on screwing customers over (so ethics). Lets just focus on one example, which would be older phones lagging on iOS 7. That with a full reformat and everything from the start. Why is that? There is no reason for it to lag on the homescreen with nothing open because nothing special is happening. Even then, why did it get past QC in that state? Same thing with the iPhone 3G on 4.0 (which made is so unusable they had to bring the slowness down with 4.2), iPhone 3GS on iOS 5 and 6, and iPhone 4/4S/iPad2 on iOS 7. It seems deliberate as hell for them to release those updates knowing full well they'll cause extreme slow downs. I have suffered through the iPad 2 slow down and the 3GS issue personally. I had no option but to live with that nightmare for 1 full year because of contract issues and me not being particularly wealthy. That is why I hate them because they didn't stop. If it was just with that one product in the past, fine, but to have it happen again and again so systematically. That is just low and I won't tolerate it. Still, if they do something good I will praise it, but at this moment, there is little of that happening. There isn't anything I can think of that makes me say, hey, Apple is doing _____ well, maybe they're finally back to doing good in general.

Can't wait to put my hands on one. Very promising weight!
5. sudbury78 (Posts: 122; Member since: 12 Jul 2012)
I disagree. My apple store, bestbuy and apple.com has every model in stock as of today. Not sold out yet.
7. Sauce (Posts: 721; Member since: 28 Apr 2013)
Just because they are in stock doesn't mean they are not doing well. Maybe they learned from the previous 9 Million unit weekend launch, or maybe they are not so popular like you said. Speculation is a waste of time, the numbers will be released soon and then we will find out.

Both are very nice...now waiting for Nexus 10 and possible Nexus 8. Also new Note 8.0 would be interesting.
15. darkkjedii (Posts: 8877; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
I finally played with a nexus 7 Friday, it belongs to one of my regular passengers. Needless to say, I was very impressed. My only gripe was no rear camera, I never really use my iPads, but just would want one there just incase.

I picked up an iPad air yesterday to upgrade from an iPad 2, I still have my nexus 7 and galaxy s4 and an looking at the note 10.1 2014 edition. But over all if coming from an iPad 2 the air is a awesome upgrade
28. ardent1 (Posts: 1968; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
I started with a 16GB iPad 2 and then bought the 32GB iPad Mini. I still have both.
I like what they did with the iPad Air since it follows the mini's firm factor. I am still going to wait until iPad mini with retina display before getting the 64GB Air this time around. I am still thinking about the LTE version since T-Mobile is giving away 200 MB each month for free for life and I can pay for the tablet over time.

I just got an iPad Air yesterday and it is the best iPad to date but the Mini 2 looks promising as we'll with the new retina display.
