Motorola shows their XOOM during the Super Bowl

If you happened to watch the Super Bowl tonight (or even if you didn't) there was the newest Motorola XOOM commercial that aired. It starts off by showing a guy waiting for a train, but everyone else around him is wearing the same white clothes and have the white (Apple) earbuds in their ears. He uses the XOOM to flip through something that looks like an eBook with 1984 in the title, then later uses the (unnamed) GPS program to find the local florist.

Nice try Moto. Copying someone else's idea does not really give an impression that you're making a better world. You don't even have your own os to power your tablet, lol.

Hey, they gotta use what works.. why not? Using what people want/expect from a current device is not a bad thing. There are in fact improvements: user replaceable battery, SD card, USB port.

Nice try Moto? Really? Umm Slate Computers were around a lot before iPad genius. So Apple is the one that improved an existing technology first. Android is the best OS out right now for phones and you don't need to jailbreak it to get good apps. The best apps are free. Google Books is the ebook reading program in the commercial. Already has over 3 million free books. Google is also smarter not being exclusive with their apps and allowing the iPad to use it as well. Draw people in with one app then they'll buy the better tablets later. And considering everything the iPad 2 is potentially coming out with is already being released this year and next year for Android tablets, who would want outdated technology like that anyway.

It pay be true that tablets have been out for quite some time, but I'm sorry their tab looks an awful lot like an iPad with the Motorola name on it. In style and presentation. Whether Android is the best OS out there can be debated...but that ad pretty much said, "Hey, can't get an iPad? Here is something just like it!"
And I have to agree with sniperace. I wouldn't purchase a Tab from anyone else but Apple right now. Again, when you put manufacturers in charge up updating the OS when the manufacturer's priority is to sell as many of the newest thing out there, you're fucked. What if Motorola comes out with a new new tab and forget mine exists (SE Xperia anyone?). Either I need to be a nerd and find a way to update it or nothing happens... At least Apple pushes updates to old phones frequently and only stops making their updates fully compatible when you are generally ready for a new product.

here is something just like it? the xoom has 2 cameras, 4 times the RAM, flash player capable, dual core processor, better resolution, removable 32 GB card and hdmi/usb support.
This thing couldn't be any more different than the ipad. Design wise it looks completely different as well. In fact, motorola designed it to be used primarily in landscape mode whereas the ipad is meant for portrait mode.
I get your point about manufacturers carrying the power to update- but in a hardware sense motorola blew apple out of the water

Yes I thought it was obvious that it was nothing like the iPad, I didn't realize I needed to explain it that part. As for manufacturers go, Motorola is really good at keeping things up to date and even if it wasn't you don't need to be a nerd to get how to update it yourself, when something is open source like an android is there are downloads and forums from developers that show you step by step how to do it. So it just turns out to be reading and doing a few clicks, and then you're done. Not to mention the updates are far more often and you actually have options. Then again that's why android is the better OS and it's not really debatable, simply because you can choose and customize. With Apple you're stuck having the same thing everyone else has. Far too limited and the reason why they are falling behind as a manufactures now that Google and their manufactures are developing hardware and software much quicker than they are. As well since Apple now makes almost non of their own products and they outsource almost everything that whole "one manufacturing, one OS" thing really doesn't help Apple like it use to in credibility. Thats why you get bad designs the like iPhone 4 antenna.
