Motorola offers hilarious April Fools' day boot screen animation in the Google Play Store
With Google asking manufacturers to add a "Powered by Android" branding to boot screen animations, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One (M8) both feature this phrase on their respective boot screens. Those two handsets now have been joined by the Motorola Moto X and the Motorola Moto G. But because today is April Fools' day, the Lenovo-owned subsidiary added something more than just the Android branding to its boot screen animation. Bigfoot, UFOs and the Loch Ness monster all make appearances.

Motorola is making this available on its Boot Services app on the Google Play Store, inside a folder called "aprilfool". What we won't know until Wednesday, is whether the animation will hang around after April Fools' Day.

This shows the advantages that manufacturers like Motorola and HTC have in publishing their system apps in the Google Play Store. Instead of taking days to roll out an update, those interested can go to the Play Store and merely download an updated app. By the way, feel free to check out the April Fools' boot screen animation by clicking on the video below.

This is quite interesting! It's interesting to see how oems take a break from their competitive schedule all year round to give us consumers a good laugh even though it might be a marketing plan by itself!

Interesting that Motorola has reverted to their old white-on-black color scheme, though I suppose it works for the boot animation.

Is it possible that Motorola is joking that they're like UFOs and the Abominable Snowman in that no one believes they still exist, despite sightings and such?

Either way it's a cute boot animation, and I like how Motorola keeps it fresh like this.

I think it's refreshing to see an OEM do something like this.
BTW, I think that was a Yeti, not Bigfoot :-)

I like that they do stuff like this, regrettably, it's something that is relatively pointless to me as my phone is in an always on state. I had to restart just to see it, had a laugh, now I will probably never see it again. I still like that Motorola doesn't ignore their phones after release and support them with little things like this. Keep up the good work Motorola!

Off topic for this.. But hoping another Moto G user might see this & know something... I still have not gotten the last bug fix update for it that brings the Kitkat version to 174.44.1. My current G is from Aio wireless. Moto said the updates come from them but that carrier versions including CDMA ones, could still be waiting on the carrier to approve it..? Anyone else still waiting on that..?
