As we fully expected, Motorola has hinted that when launched, the DROID Bionic will not be the model known as the Etna and instead will have an "improved form factor"...

Why on earth would one buy the G2x over the bionic??

Not to mention LTE and the network matter.

I did. I got tired of waiting on a replacement for my Droid Eris with a CM7 and the Thunderbolt was too big and bulky and yesterday's technology. While TMobile's service is not quite as good as Verizon, it is working great for me. In fact I've already travelled with it and service was good. Verizon needs to step up and start releasing current phones. I got tired of waiting and the rate plans on TMobile blow Verizon away. The G2x is an incredible phone and I'm glad I made the switch. Besides, I really like the 4" screen form factor as it is my pocket phone. Also, the G2x is a pure Android phone without all the bloatware and locked bootloaders Motorola phones have.

Why are all companies calling their devices droids? It's starting to become rather confusing!

Motorola Droid, Droid X,
Samsung Droid Charge,
HTC Droid Incredible etc..

I think it was easier when phones had numbers.
You knew that Nokia the "3" series and that 3410 was better than the 3310.
With the "8" series 8310 was better than the 8210 etc..

I'm a tech guy and if I can get confused, imagine what the layman is going through!

I agree. My non techie friends think all devices that run Android are Droid's.

7. beatlesfan posted on 28 Apr 2011, 09:16 3 1

I disagree. I think the names were so non-techies can remember the name better. Its simple marketing. Rather than a customer having to remember a 2 letter and 4-6 digit code for the phone it is much easier to remember 'cool' names. They still have model numbers associated with them anyway.

besides "Droids" seem to be updated a lot more. then other android devices on the verizon network. it just seems they get more attention then all the others. granted the TB with its release and hype could have been the HTC Droid Storm or something if they had decided that it was droid material. my only guess as why they didnt was the battery and connectivity issue they are having.

Its a trademark that Verizon bought and paid for when the Motorola DROID and etc DROID eris first came out. Notice all those phones are Verizon.

Droid Is a Verizon Brand Name Only.. You will not see any droids on any other provider.

Every android powered phone on Verizon has the DROID moniker. Any android powered phone on all other networks are not identified by the DROID name.

No, not all Verizon android phones have the DROID moniker. Only those which they deem meet the criteria to be called a "DROID". They have several other android phones that aren't DROID phones.

Is this article telliing us anything that has not already been stated ad nauseam?

12. vantenkiest posted on 28 Apr 2011, 10:28 1 1

its only telling us that its the "semi-Official" announcement. we knew the info already this just confirms.

why the hell would you need a 13 mp camera? theres no reason for that except to raise the cost of the device

13. vantenkiest posted on 28 Apr 2011, 10:30 4 1

for prettier pictures from farther away.. my canon is 13 mp and i love the zoom on it. my fiancee and i go bird watching and it takes some nice pics maybe this will kill the need for my camera when we go. ... i doubt it.

"A phone like the T-Mobile G2x would certainly fit the bill."
Way to turn that from a Motorola/Verizon based article to a T-Mobile ad...I'd never go to T-mobile

15. Thump3rDX17 posted on 28 Apr 2011, 12:42

the only thing keeping me from getting the G2x is HSPA+ vs. LTE.
LTE is VASTLY superior to HSPA+ so i'm gonna make myself wait for the Tegra 3 phones coming later in the year but i gotta say the G2x is a really hard one to pass up.

17. ILikeBubbles posted on 28 Apr 2011, 13:10

Its unfortunate that T-Mobile, although potentially selling out to AT&T with THE WORST data service ever does actually have better android offerings as of late than Verizon or spring. Let us not forget about the etc pyramid that will be coming out soon.

Last time I checked there aren't many Android phones out there that can out pace the one's at Verizon, especially the Droid lineup. Verizon's Droids are usually a step above the vanilla Android crop of phones, with a few exceptions of flagship phones on other networks. Many boasting higher specs but as a whole are on par or slightly better, go figure.
